I am a Rangers fan and it was great to see this video. I grew up in the 80s and took a lot of crap from my friends for being a Rangers fan. I loved players like Ron Greschner, James Patrick, Norm Maciver, John Vanbiesbrouck, Paul Broten, Mark Pavelich, Reijo "Rexy" Ruotsalainen, Mike Ridley, Pierre Larouche, Tomas Sandstrom, Tom Laidlaw and Kelly Kisio. Ruotsalainen left the Rangers because he did not get along with Esposito. Rexy wanted trade protection in his next contract and Espo would not give it to him. Espo pissed off Pavelich as well. An idea for a future video could be to show how personality conflicts between general managers and players led to interesting/questionable trades. A video could examine how the team benefited/regressed from making these deals.
as a Rangers fan, I agree with a lot on this list. Personally, I'd have Ryan Callahan near the top of my list, as well as Marian Gaborik, Rick Nash and Dan Girardi. I'd have definitely put Mark Messier on my list, and even though they weren't there as long as others, I'd also have Jaromir Jagr and Brendan Shanahan on it.
Callahan definitely. Nash and gaborik? Why? They both had like 1 good season and couldn’t produce in the playoffs for us... gaborik was also really streaky. Girardi absolutely and I feel like we forget about what Staal was before those 2 really bad injuries. One of the best shut down defenseman at that time

For Ruotsalainen it wasn't his abilities that gave out, he just didn't want to play in the NHL anymore - it most definitely wasn't his skating which was without a doubt his greatest strength. He went to play in the swiss league (which at the time paid more than enough for his tastes) and eventually retired. He coached for a while (mainly assistant coaching jobs) but these days he's very private and stays out of public view.

Mike richter definitely should be in the hof, it wasn’t just the cup in 94 the guy won a silver medal 2002 Salt Lake City and 1996 World Cup beat team Canada. And was MVP. Also 94 all star game mvp, he always was a big game goaltender and shined in the biggest moments. he’s not in the hall simply because he doesn’t have as many wins as he should have due to a HORRIBLE rangers teams in front of him from 1998-2003 and he suffered from many injuries acl and concussions which ended his career. 301 wins and was rangers all time winningest goaltender until hank but if mike had a just 2 or 3 more 25-30 won seasons he’d have almost if not 400 wins. And he would have be in the hall of fame. But he is in the USA hockey hof. And Is considered one of if not the greatest American born goaltender of all time.
I don’t watch televised sports, but I was instructed to watch this video. The host of this video is in my top three list of beings in this video, falling just behind black cat and other cat.
I believe I've read an article about Ruotsalainen not wanting to play in the NHL any longer after his first Cup win with the Oilers in 1987. He did get convinced of returning to the NHL in the 1989-90 Season to play for the Devils and he got traded to the Oilers.
Yes. Gretzky asked him to join LA, but Reksa said no. And early 80s Reijo wanted play europe, and that time finnish hockey player wanted play switzerland or sweden. Reijo was best skater in that point in NHL. Oilers coach even said that Reijos skating was art, and no one was even close to him.
It kind of interesting that up here in Ontario I barely if ever hear anything the Rangers even though they are such a popular team with a long history. Usually it's *grumble grumble* Bruins or *ha ha ha* Red Wings, etc. but not a peep about the Blue Shirt Group

I was really upset when MSG decided not to bring Ron Duguay back as a hockey analyst. He did a great job. And his hair was phenomenal (until he cut it).
As a Rangers Fan I probably wouldn't have Messier on my list either, because I only became a Fan in the early 2000s, when the team sucked and Messier wasn't really that great anymore either. Jagr would make my list and a Nylander, probably many of the 2012-2015 teams.
A schoolyard buddy of mine played for the Rangers. www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=1364 His little brother Brian played briefly for Colorado under Don Cherry. www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=6462

I suspect the reason Graves is so high on your list is because he broke super Marios hand with a cheap slash. Bit him in the ass too, as it only woke up the sleeping beast that was the 92' Pens
Ruotsalainen is considered one of the best skaters ever by some finnish hockey people so the reason he didnt stay in NHL for longer is definitely not that.
Reijo Ruotsalainen's contract expired at end of 86 season. Craig Patrick was replaced by Phil Esposito as GM. And Ted Sator was being kept for next season. I think with changing of GM's, Patrick even keeled and affable. Esposito was brash and most likely a bit conceited, and proved to be one mess of a GM. And to top it off Ted Sator was a jerk he might have been more of a jerk than Keenan was. The guy sent Pierre Larouche to the minors for half a year. So I'm figuring he was fed up and was given a decent contract in Europe, close to home and less BS. He did come back as a mercenary a few times being a part of 2 of Edmontons cups. He was small, but was quick, good hands and a very accurate shot. Rangers messed up with him, hell they messed up in more ways then one the second half of the 80's.
No Mike Gartner? Mostly a Cap, but still, he was a killer for 3-4 seasons. Also, no Wayne Gretzky? Callaghan should probably also be there. But it's your list. Interesting list, good video post

Shannon you made my day having Zuccarello number one for me its between him and the King as my favorite 2 Rangers. Gotta give love to my Ranger Russians Sergei Zubov and Nemchinov, AK 27, Bread Man, Buchy, Prince Igor and Mika and Quicky and Krieds. Miss my Rangers hockey.
Zuuuuuuuc! He will always be loved by ranger fans. I personally have nash as one of my fav. He was one of my fav players before he joined the rangers and was devistated when he was traded and then retired due to injury. But i guess he belongs on the blue jackets list first.
'Ruotsalainen' means 'Swedish' in Finnish. So, Reijo was Finnish, he's name sayd is Swedish, or....aah
I realize you likely never saw him play, but any NYR favs list HAS to include Eddie Giacomin. At least an honorable mention!
All of my favorite Rangers were from the 70's
1. Mike RIchter 2. King Henrik 3. JT Miller 4. McDonagh 5. Callahan 6. Prust 7. Kreider
brilliant video
Btw in finnish ruotsalainen means "swedish"
Congratulations on 138 Shannon! To think that I subscribed all the way back before 10,000. (Wanna say it was 6-8,000 but not sure) You've grown a hell of a channel and a hell of a community around it. It'll be 150 before you know it. Cheers!
I'm only one minute into this video and am considering clicking away after seeing the no mark messier message LOL
I came to this video just to see where Mark Messier is on the list.
Keep up the good work!!
Automatic like
My favourite Ranger is Henrik Lundquist
I don’t watch televised sports, but I was instructed to watch this video. The host of this video is in my top three list of beings in this video, falling just behind black cat and other cat.
Ruotsalainen got same money in europe, and NHL wasn't big deal in finland that point.

I LOVED Reijo Ruotsalainen!!
I'd personally have Ryan Callahan on my own list, but I love the vid
Just wanted to say RIP to former Ranger Mark Pavelich.
I still have the Reijo Ruotsaainen sweater I got as a boy. Would have been farther up my personal list.
I liked Zucc, was upset to see him go, but I think the Rangers were smart to unload him. Leetch tops my list.
Mike Gartner is one player I would put on this list. Still wish they didn't trade him in 94.
You should do either all time favorite St. Louis blues, Chicago blackhawks, or Philadelphia flyers next
I'm still shaking my head at that Brassard-Zibanejad trade.
JT Miller is my all time favourite Ranger
Still waiting for your favorite Avs list. My prediction for your favorite colorado avalanche players:
1) Adam Deadmarsh
2) joonas donskoi
3) gabriel landeskog
4) pavel francouz
5) patrick roy
*end of list*
I was really upset when MSG decided not to bring Ron Duguay back as a hockey analyst. He did a great job. And his hair was phenomenal (until he cut it).
Remember when dough
Leetch sb 1 :-) "Bright lights of Hollywood" or Broadway but same thing - Ron Duguay ! And Zuucch!
It would have been entertaining to see a Duguay/Jagr duo. The same for Archibald/Nichols duo.
Jagr's #1 for me. Great list
Ruotsalainen was one of the best skaters around. Lacked physicality in the eyes of many NHL bosses.
As a Rangers Fan I probably wouldn't have Messier on my list either, because I only became a Fan in the early 2000s, when the team sucked and Messier wasn't really that great anymore either. Jagr would make my list and a Nylander, probably many of the 2012-2015 teams.
A schoolyard buddy of mine played for the Rangers.
www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=1364
His little brother Brian played briefly for Colorado under Don Cherry.
www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=6462
I am sad to admit that despite being a year older then Shannon, I don't recognize half the people on his list
I cannot argue against anyone on this list. Thank you 👍
All time favorite San Jose sharks would be good as well as all time favorite Minnesota wild players. Even all time Montreal canadiens another original 6 team.
I agree with you about Zucc and it really hurt to see him go. And you've gotta be smoking somthing to say Price is better than Hank
no Jagr? without him Rangers don't make the playoffs in 06-07 season in my opinion.
I suspect the reason Graves is so high on your list is because he broke super Marios hand with a cheap slash. Bit him in the ass too, as it only woke up the sleeping beast that was the 92' Pens
Maybe do a video of your favorite tough guys of the 80’s?
We’re is st Louie
Sorry I probably spelt that wrong
Sad that Stephan is not on the list. Surprised you don't have esa on there.
Ruotsalainen is considered one of the best skaters ever by some finnish hockey people so the reason he didnt stay in NHL for longer is definitely not that.
Anybody hear about the Barkov rumors?
You trading for Nick Fotiu sounds like me looking for Tomas Kana or Eric Tangradi cards :D
Gretzky was to the rangers and Michael Jordan was to the Wizards if you disregard that Michael Jordan was promised part ownership of the Wizards
FOX is my #1, i would've expected Vanbiesbrook
4:50 wrong pronunciation but its just funny
Wondering how i guessed #5, #3 and #1
I'd also include Jasper Fast, same as Zucc
I don’t mind number 6 ;) 👍🏼
Spoiler: Avery's at #1.
In Reijo the J is pronounced as a J not H like in spanish. Other than that, you pronounced it pretty well.
Zuccarello getting traded was a travesty. Worst thing to happen since 2014
The dudes 5'6 and isnt going to have a season like the one he had. I'm totally happy for the time we had together but it was time for him to go.
As a rangers fan I’d love to see Dan Girardi and Ryan Callahan on this list
Nick Fotiu the first New York Ranger to be from New York City.
Ws9881 Sal Messina never got into a game but he was the backup goaltender for the Rangers.
Otto Zizak he’s not from the city
@@fishbomb6378 he’s from Staten Island, a borough of New York City.
What about elite Finnish prospect, and 2022 1st overall...Brad Lambert
Rangers fan here, I would have had Jagr, Callahan and Staal in that list .
Ogrodnik and greschner and reijo
Vadnis
Next on the list: Alex LeFreniere, sorry if I spelt this wrong
marian gaborik is my favorite ranger and player ever
Tough no Mark messier, makes sense he peaked in Vancouver
