The world in GTA 5 isn't spherical; it's (likely, based on my experience as a game dev) snowglobe-shaped. The circle-in-circle you're seeing is a circular plane (not a sphere) for the water out to a distance far enough to look like the horizon, and the dome-shape sky. It's likely that the water circle repositions itself to always be centered horizontally on the player (since you went further out in the first half of the video than the size of the plane we saw in the second half), but the atmosphere dome may be centered too, just sized larger than the water. In summary, games don't really follow reality; geometry tends to just be sized and positioned in a way that looks nice during gameplay, and games tend to pull tricks to speed up rendering performance, such as have the ocean be a circle that slides horizontally under the player while retaining a repeating texture/shader that's fixed to the position of the world (instead of being tied to the position of the circle) so that the waves and other details look real instead of sliding around with the geometry.
What really puzzles me is how the sea goes on forever in any direction but when you go upward the sea seems to have an edge or horizon, how does it appear finite or circular when it expands out forever traveling parallel :// and does the sky dome do the same thing considering you can fly in the air in any direction too, same with going below, does the water exist forever downward too ? if so thats rediculously complex mechanics how taf do we create such things

As a game designer, I can explain a few things going on. In any game you have this thing called a Skybox, which is essentially just a really big sphere surrounding the space of the game, you then can attach a texture to the inside of the sphere. This texture is and HDR image similar to an inverted panorama or if you took the skin of a globe and laid it flat. As for the "earth" its actually flat. Gasp I know, flat-earthers are actually correct on this one. The "earth" is just a circular plane with a dynamic water shader on it. This floating space disk will always be on its "0z axsis" of you. No matter how far out you go it will always be beneath you. As for why you can't see the lights of the city game designers use LOD (Level of distance/detail) to lower the quality of models the further away from the source you are. The sun is just a directional light, or a point light with god rays turned out making it look really bright from all directions. Its actually a really well-designed sun seeing it from the outside of the HDR. I was also surprised to see that the moon wasn't just a 2D graphic but an actual 3D object floating around with the HDR. Finally, your max fall speed is determined by the programmers. Even though there isn't friction in games or air the programmers faked your maximum velocity probably based off of the highest building in the game to allow the player the most control and most realistic feeling timings before hitting the pavement and turning into a soupy ragdoll.

Just a few explanations for what’s happening seeing as I make games, the reason the world is in a big circle is because that is the sky box which is why everything goes black, when u look up on the ground u see the sky box but when u pass it won’t be there of course, it looks odd from the outside as well because they would have programmed the sky box so that u can’t see it through the world so basically u will always see the world in front of the sky box (think of it like photoshop with its layers) the smoke is also not smoke but fog which is used to help draw distances but it tends to be around the player which is probably what you see, what I can’t answer is whether u would go round the world however as it is possible however rockstar could have just programmed it to be infinitely generated which sounds pointless but means a player in normal circumstances would never see the “edge” of the world, sorry for the nerdy stuff good vid
You can't, The game's engine isn't capable of any faster without the game itself crashing every time. I'd imagine the limit is 357mph according to whatever scale in the mod he's using, when in actuality it's just a number in scale with the games code.
Dude, do you know of something called Overflow, it means that if you keep adding a number to something like a float, long, double, pretty much any numerical value, at some point, that number will hit the sign part of the number. Which means, that if GTA V uses longs (64-bit floats aka floating point number aka decimals) then you would need to get to ~9,223,372,036,854,775,807 units, and if you then go another unit, you would, in theory, be teleported to (assuming you went solely on one axis, and here assuming you went on the X-axis) (-9223372036854775808,0,0) of the world. If you went on the Y-Axis, it would teleport you to (0,-9223372036854775808,0) and the Z-axis that would be (0, 0, -9223372036854775808). So you would end up, again, in theory, all the way on the other side of the map. Also, that "curvature" isn't actually curvature. In order for your device, rather it is a PS4, XBox, PC, whatever, to perform the best it can, the game will make assumptions, one such assumption is that the player will never see super far away, and for the most part, that is true. So when you disable the clouds, you prevent a clever workaround that makes it to where the GPU does not have to work as hard, however, the fog of war is still there and is set to an extreme distance. So that curvature you see is where that fog of war, and more accurately, the world, stops rendering. Those pieces of the world are still in memory, they're just not processed because, well, you're not supposed to see that far. The smoke particles are probably collecting there because you might have hit some numeric error or a NaN (Not a Number) error. That "FTL" light looks a lot like the god rays when you're in the water. So my best guess is that the GTA V stores those particles all the way up there out of sight so the engine doesn't unload them and so they don't have to read from the slow mass storage for the data of those particles. If someone from Rockstar wants to fix anything I said, be my guest. I do not know how their engine works nor the game, I do know how game engines and tricks devs use though. One last thing, good job at breaking the skybox, or I guess in GTA V, the Sky Sphere. P.S. All of this is a hypothesis since I do not have the source code to GTA V or at the very least the PBD files that allow you to view the values of the compiled code, I cannot make any definitive conclusions, only hypothesis.
i dont think this is how it works. I mean it looks cool to put numbers and shit, but particles are generated and if the game was coded to have particles on the y axis to infinity, then it can do so. When you get high up you can see the corners they cut, like having the infinite particles. Its not necessarily bad, because you arent supposed to be that far up. Second, depending on the physics, you will likely keep going forever until the main world disappears from sight. XYZ coordanites will likely stop generating (and the game could crash) but thats what usually happens in most games. You do not "teleport" to the other side of the map.
DrDesten Well I have tried that and all models get stretched out, textures go into random positions and just everything breaks visually the further you get. Never actually hit a complete stop/crash.
Coordinates would never be stored as an integer unless it is a turned based game where everything is locked perfectly to a grid. GTA most likely uses single precision floating point numbers. Floating point numbers are stored as a base and an exponent. Because of this, they can get very big, but the larger they get the more inaccurate arithmetic results will be. At a certain point the model's vertices would get inaccuratly displaced after the matrix transformation. You would experience the model glitching out, and the further you got the worse it would get. Even if it was stored using integers then when you got to the maximum number it would just go to some seemingly unrelated number. When you try to add or do anything similar to a binary number and run out of space it just throws away the extra bits so you end up with the parial base 2 number.
Sooner or later ull hit the floatpoint limit and everything will start to look like an earthquake. The UI will be unstable and ull start seeing how the plane disappears in parts. Thats what happens in every game.
You got outside of the programmed sphere . The game doesn't know how to handle stuff here so it is a bit random. Trying to learn game design and maybe will made videos about that also :P
Well the skybox is a sphere... Actually no the skybox is flat at the bottom and top but round at the sides. More of a cylinder I guess ;~; the island is a plane pretty much tho Yea
Well you gotta admit that shows how impressive Rockstars engine is if you look how big the whole sphere is and that they acctually used something round insead of going for a flat ground.
They believe that the sun is like a spotlight, rather than a globe that shoots out light in all directions. As far as the stars go, they believe that the sky is a hard limit called the "firmament," so the stars are simply on the firmament. This is why almost no flat earther believes humans ever went to space. Nevertheless there are better ways to dismantle they're flawed logic.
Vineyard 480 i have to go back to how to type on the internet to impress people because they'll comment about it talking shit because they have nothing better to do? Um ok. 🙃
when you scrolled back to find the island on the map, you shouldve set a waypoint -- that wouldve gave us a distance. then you could fly a bit longer and see if it increases or if there was a barrier on that but the ocean just continues anyway
I remember doing something similar in GTA San Andreas. That one didnt have boundaries and I ended up flying in my biplane about an hour away from the island. Took me literally that same amount of time and most of my patience to come back to the island. At some point I felt that I may never find my way back. Thank god I remembered which general direction the island was located in and just pushed onward. I still remember the feeling when I saw san andreas again in the distance. Felt like a castaway finding land after being stranded at sea. Theres a good chance if I had gone in any direction other than straightforward on that little journey, I probably wouldve lost the island and had to reload the game.
Mr Gamer man cuz the flash mod probably changes run speed to the same as an unmodded jet. It'll be slower and flying a plane where u have an extra dimension to worry about is funner than pressing just forward
Festus Muberuka I believe that he has passed the skybox, which is bound to the world, and the program is getting confused because it is past its programmed limits hence the weird light and smoke.
The further you travel from the games intended content the more the game breaks. You are basically in an area that has no coding. Your coordinates are invalid, ext ext
Festus Muberuka Some games have it set so that "ocean" is not a mesh and is instead generated as you move. There is a set altitude value that the water is generated at.
Things usually break outside of set boundaries in game because the floating point values for coordinates get more and more complicated the further out in 3D space you go. These coordinates have a certain accuracy and when you get to huge values, points in 3D space seem like they're jumping to eachother or teleporting. Look at the PS1, games there were shaky because the floating point calculations were pretty inaccurate. That effect gets worse and worse the further out you get.
Artie Knight YT you can do it yourself if you glitch under the map. If u mean what's beyond the point where u teleport back up, then you'll probably just fall through empty digital space until the map disappeared until you got bored of the skydiving animation
irarelyupload It is in the sky box. I cant remember if its with in the borders but its with in the sky box. thats why there was kind of another circle of water that looked like a lump.
It's actually really neat to see this. If this is included in the game files and stuff, you can see Rockstar has plans to make a globe sized open world with leaving the planet an option some day.
"Los santos is in a ball thats in a ball" -Saintsfan 2018 Thats hilarious😂 Love you saintsfan That "space" is actually very interesting on how the game is made...
Next time try Menyoo -> Vehicle options -> Menyoo customs -> scroll down to max speed, hit enter to type some high number. You also can increase hp multiplier but this only works for cars boats not planes...
In all games, there are numerical, generally floating point boundaries at which either the player coordinate will "flip" to the "other side" of the map, or a wall will prevent further movement, depending upon how the developers coded those routines. It appears in this case the player position just follows the surface of a sphere, and it's possible that the player will eventually reach the other side of the island. You'd need to track the player coordinates, mapping out the extents of the island as well as player movement, to have a better idea about this. There is no actual landscape outside of the extremities of the island. Just an algorithm that displays the default water texture and undersea land, and the interactive elements of the game, stored as actual data, are generated on top of that, to put it simply. Storing the data for all of that oceanic area would be ridiculous. That's a rule of game development: don't store or render more than what you have to so you can save resources for practical stuff. Judging from this video, it looks like there are two apparently overlapped spheres inside a "sky" sphere. The programmer part of my brain is speculating on why those two spheres are present. The developers certainly had a reason in mind. Games never fully simulate reality, instead utilising shortcuts to make the game world appear as real as possible with existing technology. Bugs such as those noted in this video definitely shed a light onto how a game was planned and constructed.
"but first we need to talk about parallel universes.." if you teleport to a huge coordinate (in the x or z axys) the game should start to glich out (maybe the 64 bit integer limit)
So a guy flies a plane beyond the invisible kill wall in GTAV which is a video game(!) and people start believing the earth is flat? I thought those people were pushed off the edge by cats years ago. I like pancakes as much as the next guy but for gods sake we are not living on one.
when you were in space you shouldve changed the time of day. be closer to the sun... also. just jump out and freefall... you could just record that without pressing buttons, and then upload it speeded up. see where you end up
The reason why that "circle" kept getting bigger is that was just the render distance of Grand Theft Auto V, and as you were getting further and further away, the actual map left the render distance. Don't believe my words completely, as this might not be what actually happens, although the footage leans strongly towards it.
RIGHT NOW YOU KNOW WHAT YOU NEED TO DO DONT YOU. For the people.. THATS TO GET THE MOD TO DISABLE THE SPEED RESTRICTIONS. Iv seen that mod it exists. 1000+ mph then.. And fly around the GLOBE.. Iv speed up mode and see if you can approach the island from the opposite DIRECTION BRAAA
This game world is not designed to do so, it is so simple. They need to put in extra code to make it act like that. Since there were the borders that this mod removes, player is not supposed to go that far, and there is no point to make it loop. It can be done, but was not done.
Even if the map is flat.. To eyes.. It's sat on a Globe shaped object.. Just asking simply because what would happen if you fly out the stratosphere and aim towards space behind the game map...... + the mod for unrestricted speed. 1000s mph and that mod comes in with an airplane mod..
ERR, yes? And after all, making such big map could bring most of the systems to unplayable framerates, and I think that "8gb of ram" or 60gb HDD space will not be enough for it.
Ok so obviously The giant ring is the skybox and the reason the water kept going is caused the game is probably programed to always have the player in water so they can't do this and the Black void isn't space... It's you breaking out of the sky box which is probably why there was smoke or the weird lighting effects. I know this is probably known by most people but I still felt like commenting it
there’s probably an end at the 32 bit integer since thats how far games go (usually) idk tho, also find a way to teleport or it would take you days to reach the 32 bit int

Tech N Games interesting
now thats true physics
Keith Beitia Okayyyyy
Neeeeerrrrrddddd
i dont think this is how it works.
Try going to the airport where planes take off, and follow them beyond the "barrier" to see what they do
They hit the barrier and crash
RedViking i bet they end up out of gas :!
RedViking yes
RedViking they get hijacked and flow into skyscrapers
Lamont Coleman Bush did Nagasaki
8 minutes of my life was wasted watching the start of this video...
Lucas Elliot meh to
Oh poor you
Lucas Elliot yeah I skipped it
thanks for the heads up

There is ALWAYS an end
(Maybe it'll be when the coordinates reach the 64bit integer number)
DrDesten Well I have tried that and all models get stretched out, textures go into random positions and just everything breaks visually the further you get. Never actually hit a complete stop/crash.
Game engines often go on infinitely. Fall off of a unity level and you fall forever. ( Until you make it kill the player )
Leafdroid This reminds me of the Far Lands of Minecraft which had really impressed me many years ago
DrDesten lol no
Sooner or later ull hit the floatpoint limit and everything will start to look like an earthquake.
The UI will be unstable and ull start seeing how the plane disappears in parts.
Thats what happens in every game.
You got outside of the programmed sphere . The game doesn't know how to handle stuff here so it is a bit random.
Trying to learn game design and maybe will made videos about that also :P
programmed plane you mean lol
ChadRilla23 Lol I was just guessing (:
But you can program games in a sphere and don't do anything to the outside
ChadRilla23 More like a 3 Dimensional Spherical Plane.
Well the skybox is a sphere... Actually no the skybox is flat at the bottom and top but round at the sides. More of a cylinder I guess ;~;
the island is a plane pretty much tho Yea
Well you gotta admit that shows how impressive Rockstars engine is if you look how big the whole sphere is and that they acctually used something round insead of going for a flat ground.
It's the UBISOFT LOGO

Wanna prove flat earthers wrong just think about this, if the earth was flat mornings will be the same time in every country 🌞
v Gladi How do you know they different? Have you seen it with your OWN eyes?
George Wells yes
why do people not understand its a joke
They believe that the sun is like a spotlight, rather than a globe that shoots out light in all directions. As far as the stars go, they believe that the sky is a hard limit called the "firmament," so the stars are simply on the firmament. This is why almost no flat earther believes humans ever went to space. Nevertheless there are better ways to dismantle they're flawed logic.
*Their
That's definitely flat, Not a globe.
justin b haha , I guess flat earthers got their ideas from GTA
Actually it was more like a potato, so everyone was wrong
Antonio Carranza No , You're wrong , I just found a new discovery , Earth is a pillow shaped planet
Antonio Carranza not really cuz it's a flat plain. There is no curvature

Probably 3
Had to get that sweet ad revenue know what i mean?
*Could*
The video would be worse if it was only 5 minutes
when you scrolled back to find the island on the map, you shouldve set a waypoint -- that wouldve gave us a distance. then you could fly a bit longer and see if it increases or if there was a barrier on that but the ocean just continues anyway
Lewis Filby waypoint distance only works with land vehicles tho
If theres no Land or Island is normal that ocean is contunie bro
You turned GTA into Interstellar.
why he didn't use quick silver mod or flash mod to make there in a sec like wtf
Mr Gamer man cuz the flash mod probably changes run speed to the same as an unmodded jet. It'll be slower and flying a plane where u have an extra dimension to worry about is funner than pressing just forward
Ad revenue
Clout
GameLex Gaming Quick silver mod speed change is game breaking tho
The adventure is what makes it count
So we all guessed it wrong
The *EARTH IS CIRCLE INSIDE A CIRCLE*
IRL it is
Sofi M.A The circle is the atmosphere so technically yah...
Mal Saviourdogz You know a joke-
_INFINIS _ the atmosphere isn't a circle
I'm naked while writing this Thr atmosphere is the outline of a sphere that wraps around our planet. Yes it is a sphere, just only the surface.
If someone has worked with unreal engine 4 or is a game developer they would know what is happening right now
Festus Muberuka I believe that he has passed the skybox, which is bound to the world, and the program is getting confused because it is past its programmed limits hence the weird light and smoke.
That effect gets worse and worse the further out you get.
nah he’s just in space vro
*Go to the bottom of it*
Elijah Skits and Gaming *Yes, would be cool*
Mythical Gamer, Prove it with a video link.
Artie Knight YT you can do it yourself if you glitch under the map. If u mean what's beyond the point where u teleport back up, then you'll probably just fall through empty digital space until the map disappeared until you got bored of the skydiving animation
Elijah Skits and Gaming fc5
That'd be fucking scary.
Explain that, flat-Earthers

DAMMIT
a ball within a ball ... that outer ball is the "atmosphere"
Lewis Filby sky ball
its called a skybox
It is obvious that you know very little about how games are created, but the video itself is interesting.
Andrew Evenson you are a weirdo stop showing off
Sharif Nasser it's weird to know about how games are made?
I do find it kind of adorable that he's confused about what's going on outside the skybox.
KingNich01as It's weird to point that out about someone and show off your knowledge by exploiting someone else especially in this case
Sharif Nasser, what knowledge did I show off? I didn’t claim to be an expert, and I complimented his video lol.
If u continue ur gonna end up in North Yankton
Sweed 619 really?
Sweed 619 you don't that was for 1 mission
michael glavin 2*
Actually you have a point since that area would have to be located somewhere within the skybox
irarelyupload It is in the sky box. I cant remember if its with in the borders but its with in the sky box. thats why there was kind of another circle of water that looked like a lump.
It's actually really neat to see this. If this is included in the game files and stuff, you can see Rockstar has plans to make a globe sized open world with leaving the planet an option some day.
Free fall from space

Right after he makes it dark and changes it back you can see it for a second when he pans the plane back up
??????*
Day=Sun
Change
Nighy=Moon
Get it?
Just A Guy oh right
Next time try Menyoo -> Vehicle options -> Menyoo customs -> scroll down to max speed, hit enter to type some high number.
You also can increase hp multiplier but this only works for cars boats not planes...
you should jump out fromthat hight and count how long it was
Still trying to figure out why he hasn’t made a video on this yet
With free falling on loop
Do it with moon gravity just to torture yourself hahaha. With the max height it took almost 20 minutes for me to fall to the ground
This video was fucking bland enough.
What a fucking retarded idea
GenericGeorge That's kind of my point though it's supposed to be stupid idea
Should've swam in the water and see what the graphics are like below it.
Black, Everything turns dark. And I go dipper and my submarine crushed
Prateek Panwar Cheers
omfg that was funny XD
badbadfull and if you go deep enough you should get the same view as when he tried to reach space
Nigga is that a pic of NKuch on your profile? Lmao
You need to get Laid big time!
Viking Raiders ikr
Can you go to Thanos place ?
Shay DZ Gamer HAHAH, Or knowhere
MisterTRAP Music imagine the reality stone In GTA 5
The 5 infinty stones. 😂😂😂

Donzel C if stephen hawking was so smart, why didnt he find a cure for himself?
Donzel C lol
Your profile pic has no effect on Felix Shots
Donzel C so it had no effect on me?
So I think the takeaway from this is that the entire gta universe takes place on a waterworld with one big island and several smaller ones
O C E A N M A N.
Take my by the hand , lead to the land that you understand.
Raiser 406 ❤️❤️❤️
Time to go watch the Spongebob Movie now.
You can change the top speed in vehicle customizations.
I haved reached 1k mph with menyoo
(You need to change the maximum speed for the plane/car)
Mario Aguilar ty I was gonna say that xD
Menyoooooo
So if the gta earth is round you could start to move at north and come out at the south of los santos
technically in the way that the game is programmed, yes you can
tortugo gamer Thats wrong. The curvature is not physically programmed in the game.
but the memory will someday reach its max and go back to 0, so it will loop
ABUELA PUEDO BAJAR it would just crash
Whin Corbin not necessarily. If the value thats being stored is an unsigned integer, then it will loop. But if it is not, then it will crash probably.
Kartoffel Bauer Well I'm sorry if I offended you by making fun of the way you see the world - but hey. You kinda deserve it if you really believe it.
But it's a joke lmao
The Shyro if only you knew
Don't know if the whoosh I just heard was the aeroplane in this video or the jokes going over your head.

Addicted49 go away sensitive lol
"When you cant go any higher"
Snoop dogg "yea sure"
when you were in space you shouldve changed the time of day. be closer to the sun...
also. just jump out and freefall... you could just record that without pressing buttons, and then upload it speeded up. see where you end up
Lewis Filby sped up not speeded pal 😂😂😂
Thats the type of vid I like
Jason,DJay were someone flies for endless days in gta?
You should skydive from space
Legend has it if go far enough you will end up in the fortnite island
At the end of the map camera will stop moving but plane will fly forever.
R1chM4n Gaming he already past that limit by removing it
if he did not remove that limit then he would not be in space
The reason why that "circle" kept getting bigger is that was just the render distance of Grand Theft Auto V, and as you were getting further and further away, the actual map left the render distance. Don't believe my words completely, as this might not be what actually happens, although the footage leans strongly towards it.
Do a video of going into space then jumping out the plane
He did that in the video. But he should make a video of him just fallen all the way back down to the main map XD
770her 0 isn't that what just happened?
He did it
I can never look at the GTA 5 map the same again.
The game world does not loop around on itself in its current iteration, as it was never designed to do so.
But it's round ish and you can go to space. Boundaries.. So what's stopping this
This game world is not designed to do so, it is so simple.
They need to put in extra code to make it act like that.
Since there were the borders that this mod removes, player is not supposed to go that far, and there is no point to make it loop.
It can be done, but was not done.
The map is flat tho
Even if the map is flat.. To eyes.. It's sat on a Globe shaped object.. Just asking simply because what would happen if you fly out the stratosphere and aim towards space behind the game map......
+ the mod for unrestricted speed. 1000s mph and that mod comes in with an airplane mod..
Imagine if he accidentally hit the water while recording 😂😂😆
"The arrow disappears"
(Sees arrow on map still)
GTA developers are flat earthers
DankPuna if they were it would be an end and it’s not
I know, I was just being sarcastic Victoria :D
Ok, so if something like this exist, than that mean that they can make a whole GTA Game out of a planet.
Steadman Blake no... This is just something that the game just cant handle properly because you ste not suposed to her here
K s h F i 3 d:
Ummm, really? 😒😒😒😒
ERR, yes? And after all, making such big map could bring most of the systems to unplayable framerates, and I think that "8gb of ram" or 60gb HDD space will not be enough for it.
K s h F i 3 d
Egh you're half right
Steadman Blake there's a mod where they make other planets and apace and you can go to that
17 minutes? Really?
TheBatmanFan17 is it bad that sat through it?
Dried Marmot Yes, it is. But I'm not judging.
TheBatmanFan17 I was really high this morning
Dried Marmot LOL just look at some dank memes or watch PewDiePie and you'll be fine.
TheBatmanFan17 imagine saying dank memes in 2018
Stop looking that way!! 😂 Saintsfan is hilarious.
Ok so obviously
The giant ring is the skybox and the reason the water kept going is caused the game is probably programed to always have the player in water so they can't do this and the Black void isn't space... It's you breaking out of the sky box which is probably why there was smoke or the weird lighting effects.
I know this is probably known by most people but I still felt like commenting it
@Dat Saintsfan But how did you remove them though? Simply through the settings or did you have to use a mod/edit the code of the game for this?
It's a mod.
Cy83R ASF not that hard, you find the code about the barrier and you remove it (if you are a developer), else you find a already built mod
Pepsi logo
This is legit the truman show
And then going into space
The world is ubisoft
there’s probably an end at the 32 bit integer since thats how far games go (usually) idk tho, also find a way to teleport or it would take you days to reach the 32 bit int
