Great video! Mine arrives today, and this is the first video that let me know I needed to budget 30 to 60 to set it up. Appreciate how in-depth this was!!
Another fantastic video Sean. The process of buying a mid-level LM ($2000-5000) can be maddening. Everything would be clear if I could get a GC3 with face angle and club path measurements. Well, and then there’s the GC3 subscription thingy too. Enter the Skytrak+ which I hadn’t been considering. It’s camera based (I like), it has face and path data (I need), and it’s in the middle of my price range. Now I need to figure out two things - and maybe you can help! (1) Are the face angle, club path, and similar data points measured or calculated? (2) How well does the Skytrak+ work outside on a regular basis because I need a unit for range time. Keep up the good work!
I use my Skytrak+ outside every single day to hit 250 golf balls in a semi-enclosed carport, which is just like a range in terms of sunlight & placement. It works perfectly. I have literally never used it indoors. It is 100% outdoors for me. The huge benefits of the Skytrak+ are the detailed, accurate stats & the ability to use it in a compact setup, without requiring space behind the tee. I liked the R10/Awesome Golf: I love the Skytrak+.
Enjoyed this video. I think you nailed it when it comes to set up, data, presentation, minimal space requirements, and ease of use. It should be a top-of-the-line, consumer launch monitor. I had ordered one as soon as it was open for pre-orders and got an early unit. I really wanted it to work but out of the gate it had some issues which were compounded by Golf tech/SkyTrak and terribly slow on customer support. I opened tickets, I sent pictures of ball flights that looked like a corkscrew, and it wasn’t just one. Some of the data points were totally bizarre and because I got no response within the 30 days, it went back. For all of the reasons you mentioned I really wanted it to work but if I buy a $3000 product I expect better customer support and certainly did not get it. Two weeks after it was returned. I did get an email stating the corkscrew was a known issue and a fix was coming. I suggested they apply it to the product I returned. As of today I haven’t replaced it with another another launch monitor and was wondering if you had considered reviewing the Uneekor Eye Mini.
Same experience with the original ST. Got a lemon unit and support generally just ghosted me. When they did reply it was always the same answer - reset the unit, but you had to turn off your home wifi network when you did it. With the number of devices you've generally got hooked up to a network at any given time that's a pretty dismal solution. Going to wait and see if Golftech owning them and using the units has any impact.
I purchased the MLM2PRO recently and was wondering about the ST+. On the back of the unit 2:59 it says "Powered by Rapsodo". Is both the hardware and software powered by Rapsodo? Glad I purchased the MLM2PRO.
Well done. I still like my R10 with Awesome Golf but I'd love to do the wedge grid on the SkyTrak. Maybe I could do the wedge grid with a GolfTec lesson. Cheers!
Heh I should’ve done more reading… went down the rabbit hole this weekend and bought a skytrak+, spg xl net and a 5x5 all separately.. waiting for it to come in
As already mentioned assuming the gc quad is more accurate is flawed. An easy way to benchmark mark the cary distance is to record manually landing spot and use a high quality range finder.
You need to add a fill light, as the shadows on the left side of your face are too deep. You need maybe half the shadow depth on the left side for natural-looking light.
Yes, that's correct and was an oversight! Mostly was trying to point out that placement is different than a traditional Doppler system which goes behind the ball. Thanks for the comment!
Totally agree the Skytrak plus is great. Love the driving range stats. I did had a problem with network mode but an update seemed to fix it. talking about E6 I tried it couldn't get it to connect on my PC spent over an hour with E6 support they finally just gave up. I got a refund from Skytrak. It does work with GSPRO works great and the graphics are better and you can play in six different modes, match play, scramble, etc. Didn't even consider Mevo+ don't want a LM I have to use special ball with.
Yeah e6 can often be a pain to get setup, but once you're in the app its great. Just gotta get there first. Also, dont need special balls with the Mevo Plus, and I'm pretty sure that unless you're using a hack you SkyTrak+ doesn't support GSpro yet.
Do you have any videos discussing hitting mats? Or any recommendations? That’s the once piece of the simulator that I’ve been struggling to figure out what to do.
My testing with different mats has been pretty limited, but what I've heard recommended a bunch are Fiberbuilt mats. So that's where I'd start looking first, personally.
Thanks so much for your reviews! Has really helped me narrow down my options. I currently have The ST+ and Launch pro. One device I'm going to return. My biggest issues with the Launch pro are the subscription packages and having to place stickers on the clubs. To spend $3k and then at minimum $250 a year to use the thing is crazy to me. At least with the ST+ you only have to pay for the extras. All the ball and club data comes with the purchase of the unit. I was able to get the ST+ working with GSPRO. So that eliminates that issues. I did find some issues with chipping though. The ST+ seemed to miss quite a few chips. But i figure this will be fixed with updates.
Good to hear you've got it working with GSpro! I havent tried because I was under the impression it wasnt supported yet, but will have to give it a shot.
Great Video! I'm interested in purchasing a SkyTrak+ but I'm being told hitting off of mats can destroy your golf game. So quick question, is there a mat that best simulates real golf course conditions? Also, I'd expect to practice daily (a lot of shots/day); what should my realistic expectations be as it relates to how any improvements gained via simulator/mat practice would translate to real golf rounds on a real golf course? The last question... This will be in a structure I'm building outside (will have roof and walls on three sides but front/entryway is wide open to natural light, etc) -- will the SkyTrak+ unit perform well in that type of environment? Thanks, and again, great video!
Great review. I’ve been thinking about getting the SkyTrak+ and you’ve sold me on buying one. Please update us on whether or not SkyTrak drops an offer code.
@@johngetz5812 sorry I misspoke I wish they had like the average golfer parameters availability instead of having to figure it all out yourself and put it in for everything cause it’s confusing to say the least. NOW that said the feature on allllll of the things on the flightscope is awesome
Hi Sean thanks for all the info ... Being in Australia it is hard to get good local info, not to mention the actual products ... Will be setting up a golf simulator in my new house/garage & being a data nerd sounds like the Skytrak+ might be a cost affective choice?
Its fantastic! Just depends on what your definition of cost effective is. It's certainly not the most expensive out there, but definitely cheaper options as well. That said, for what it provides its got fantastic value.
Just can't agree. Had the original Skytrak and had nothing but issues with it. And felt the support was lackluster at best and downright passive aggressive at worst. So I sold it. I tried the Plus over the last 30 days. And it was definitely a mixed bag. Had some issues at the start due to the way they disable the application on Windows if they think they've found an installed VPN. And again, support was not what I would call particularly helpful. Figured it out on my own. Figured out my own way of testing alignment and it passed that hurdle. Went to using only Direct Mode and that seemed to work pretty solidly so I thought, "Eh, maybe they got it right this time and I'll keep it." And then all of a sudden it just stopped. It kept disconnecting in Direct Mode after one shot. Reset, no change. So back it went. Didn't even bother with support this time. And just for the record, I do not agree about the software. I think it's a downright hostile interface. Sure you can get a screen with all those little bells and whistles. But you won't get that whiz bang screen with all the settings unless you set a club. And you can't set the club without going through a number of other actions from that first screen. If you do lose the connection there's no way of doing a reset without exiting completely. And if you're in the about screen you have to exit the entire app as well to get back to the main selection screen. I consider it a pretty hostile interface overall, and it's not appreciably different than it was when I had the original Skytrak. I wanted this strictly for practice. If it had just stayed working I'd have kept it. But I don't want to get stuck with something that goes South when the wind blows that only has a 6 month warranty.
So you buy the play and improve how do you actually get the coarses from e 6 do skytrak send you a code for this so I guess you close the skytrak app and open the e6 app correct ? But how does it know you’ve paid for the play and improve ?
Does the SkyTrak+ show the low point of your swing? I couldn't see it in the screens shots you displayed. I believe I am guilty of hitting shots fat and having this metric would greatly assist.
My thoughts are the delay is noticeable when compared to other products, but short enough that as other mentioned, its really not a big deal. Thats my personal opinion at least.
@@breakingeighty - by the time I break my follow-through stance & look at my iPad, the ball is in flight.
