    Vic Ski here. I'm the kid next to the boom box with the cool Adidas and colored Lees, time stamp 2:41. Anyhow a shout out to the Floor Masters in Kingsbridge. Great neighborhood with a beautiful mix of people. We had the Irish, Jewish, Polish, Greeks, Puerto Ricans, Italians, Dominicans, Jamaicans, African and Caribbean Americans, and all of them had their part in making the Hip Hop, B-Boy, Dance, Music, visual art, Clothing, and language what it is today. Word up! Before that time we were all wearing Converse, Pro Ked, and Skippys for a 1.99. Our culture, put Adidas, Pumas, Kango, name chains, and belt buckles, and monogram ball caps on the map.

I remember when a piece of cardboard and music would make Benny, P-man, Anthony and Lil Ray dance...that's all it took. My two sons have always been inspired by your dancing moves NYC breakers! I loved breaking and pop locking. This golden era can never be replicated. This art form gave young urban youth a voice, something to be proud of when the rest of society could care less. The significance of this movement can not be measured in words. Hip hop and the B Boy culture showed the world that the best flowers can grow and blossom in the most difficult of circumstances. The ghetto and Poverty could not stop the creative ability that was hidden inside these youth. It was an organic grassroots movement that was pure in form before it went mainstream. Despite it all, I am proud to say that I lived through this time in history. The style of dress, speech, and socialization was unique and gave a lot of us an identity to proud of.

      What up brothas... I was part of Crash Crew Chicago we had the pleasure to battle Rock Steady at the Rainbow Chicago. Lisa Lisa was the host that night . i would say we were tied in the battle but then Crazy legs came out with his windmill to backspin back to windmill move but thats when we le loose our secret weapon. His nick name was and still is secret. Secret did his blow you out the water power move which was windmill which we called the helicopter to an amazing headspin back to a helicopter to a backspin then ended with a crazy crab walk. Lisa Lisa declared us the winners. Nevertheless there was much love and respect for Rocksteady and it was and honor to meet crazy legs mister wave and the other brothers. Such great times! It got us off the corner and it stopped the gang banging for a while. Great times...

I took some of the first Rap (Wasn't called that in the 70's) music with me into Basic Training, Fort Gordon Ga. Those of us in the military helped spread rap and break dancing before the art was known. I could still see the faces "What the bleep is he doing?" I knew elctric boogie n break dancing when I was 15 in 1981. I was so crazy about it n started to practice from simple to even greater moves. At first it only me who was doing the moves, poppin' in school but later on several of my friends were interested , so we started dancing on streets in Amsterdam ( leidseplein) n The Hague centrum.
    Poppin' n break dancing was a pandemic, kids, youths were all jammin. Let a lone we my family moved to Tokyo, it was even better since every sunday in Harajuku , they closed the street just for people to xpress their talent. Yeeaah...electric boogie, poppin' n breakdancin' was fantast those days n still is.

    I think the Rock Steady crew has programs for young kinds over in Hunt's Point in the youth center.
    NYC breaker's might have something similar but those dudes are in their 40's not (like me :) and probably not breaking anymore.

    40 years after this call-out, breakdancing will debut as a competitive olympic sport in Paris in 2024.
    40 years later hip hop culture and breakdancing still thrive after quickly spreading across the world and inspiring millions of people.
    40 years later we will get to see B-boys and B-girls on the biggest stage the world has to offer. Finally! And righteously so.

    Bboying in the Olympics is a complete joke, another way to kill the art & return it back to its commercial name "Breakdancing". I started Bboying in the Uk in 1982, & carried on for 36 years, I saw & did a lot of things. What we as bboys back then did live, was true hip hop just like in the video. We had nothing, opportunities rarely ever existed, it was about the love of the dance, the ability to create something out of nothing, the 8hr plus everyday training sessions, the battling with your crew, the putting the little money you had together to buy batteries for the ghetto blaster "Shit didn't last long if you had it on too loud, & much more. I could just reel off many stories all day long about the real hip hop Bboy history.
    To me, the Olympics just look like a circus sideshow but that's not going to stop it. It is what it is now but, I'd never support something like that, it's so far from the original Bboying/Hip Hop art & atmosphere.
    People should also stop calling it "Breakdancing" as to me you are disrespecting the original artform of Bboying.

      @@edgardosoto4193 doesn't matter, I'm now 45, and still enjoying what I can do. As you get older you have to be a realist and accept your body changes as you get older. Be grateful you can still do a few moves, rather than none at all. It's not always about bouncing around catching your spit upside down in the air. Enjoyment.

    • @bboyStuntZ
      @bboyStuntZ 4 года назад +1

      @@edgardosoto4193Yeah I'm slower now. I'm only seeing this message now. But that's cause I'm injured. I don't feel like age slowed me down in the sense dat my body is slower because of it. I lose speed when I am not training as much or inury. I still dance though and I do it for a living. The good thing about injuries, is it forces you to work on other stuff. My popping, locking and waving is much better now. Once I recover from injuries, I'll be able to break faster, and do funk styles.

    This report is so false. Breaking never replaced violence. The whole battle ideology is just a made up hype. Look at the statistics, there were lots of street violence going on in the midst of the breakin' era. As a matter of fact it was really bad during the 80's in NYC. Ideological it could have been about the dance but it never was. Violence has always been around and the hiphop culture never managed to turn that around. It never aimed to either. It was just art, music and dance.
