The new game is prettier, but I think the old game's visuals are a lot more functional. As someone with tunnel vision problems when playing games, I find it hard to keep track of what I need to in the new game with all the visual noise, foreground particles, and lighting effects.
I agree too. The graphics and the lighting look definitely better in the second game, but they also distract more. There were some chase scenes and parcour challlenges, where I couldn't see Ori anymore because he was completely camouflaged by all the blue light in the background or hidden by all the stuff that suddenly appear on the screen.

The Blind Forest was artistically a masterpiece, but I cant believe how Will of the Wisps improved on it! No wonder the recommended system specs are high now
In Will of the Wisps they used 3D models compared to the 2D ones in Blind Forest, this enabled them to use 60fps sprites whereas Blind Forest had 30fps sprites. Also including that on PC it runs on 120fps due to the refresh rate, so if you want a smoother gameplay PC is the one for this.
@@DanteGabriel-lx9bq I don't remember it being 120fps on Xbox, well if its true an Xbox is another great choice. Also (I don't want to start an argument here but) buying a PC isn't a waste of money.
@@zer0legend109 The patches they released should have fixed any bugs left after the first week. I've finished the game on normal and hard difficulty on Xbox with no incidents, and I haven't run into any issues on PC so far. The only difference between them is that it looks better on PC.
@@zer0legend109 yeah, i played ori and the blind forest on 60fps and on ori and the will of the wisps, i;m hardly getting 25 fps lol. the game is poorly optimised
I've played both games extensively. I didn't think it was possible to improve on The Blind Forest, but Will of the Wisps somehow managed to pull it off. Every single element of the game is an improvement of its predecessor. Will of the Wisps ranks right up there with Journey and ABZU as one of the most beautiful games ever created. It's a straight 10/10.
Same. I’d say it’s partly because I have pretty good patience, but the other reason I can tolerate the lag and crashes is because the game’s so gorgeous, not to mention immersive ^^
I adore how in will of the wisps they focus more on the crafting of light in the world. Everything is brighter and flows better, which makes the details pop and gives a gorgeous vibrance and life to the world. It also works really well with places more affected with decay, making the absence of light pop and add to the mood of the place. Such a beautifully sculpted game.
I gotta say that I like Ori and The Will Of Wisps better because the game saves by itself and in Ori and The Blind Forest you have to save the game by using your energy orbs
At first, I was thinking about buying Ori & the Will of Wisp but then I saw some critics saying that Ori & the Blind Forest is the one I should buy before Ori & the Will of Wisp. Could some people help me decide which one I should start with? Thanks a lot.
Start with the first game (Blind Forest) and then move to the second (will of the wisps) that way you will find coherent development (chronological) and technical improvement.
Will of the wisps is definitely no doubt a massive improvement over The Blind Forest, with The Will Of the Wisps has a better combat system, better graphics, longer length and even a better storyline that expands the lore and detail.
These games are so beautiful, time to drop $40 for them both lol. I was originally just gonna get will of the wisps but after reading some comments and realizing will of the wisps is a continuation of the firsts story, better get both.
Just finished the first game! Just amazing. Gameplay is fun if sometimes quite challenging but the visuals are stunning. Can't wait to play the Will of the Wisps. And man, how I wish Nintendo would make a 2D Metroid game with visuals of this quality (or just hire Moon Studios to do it ;)).
What makes me sad is the fact that Ori looks so young in the Blind Forest while he's all grown up in Will of the Wisps ... sort of foreshadowing the ending and symbolizing his destiny.
Question: I've never played this game before. Should i start playing with Ori and the Blind Forest first or The will of the Wisps first? And also, does "the will of the forest" have the same story as "Ori and the Blind forest", meaning, is the definition edition just as upgraded graphic version of the old? Can anyone shed some light without any spoilers? Thank you in advance.
This clearly shows how far Moon Studios have come since Blind Forest, the graphical improvement is amazing. One thing, at 4:10 I don't remember seeing this part of Will of the Wisps, would you happen to know the regions name and location?
Carson Lujan if I’m correct it’s actually from blind forest, look at Ori, it’s not will of the wisps Ori. I think it’s just named incorrectly in the screen grab.
@@jonathantaylor2359 I see what you mean but this part shown is Will of the Wisps. As you can see the three abilities are at the bottom between the energy and life.
Absolutely amazing masterpieces, both games. But to be honest...I like Blind Forest graphics a bit better...everything is a bit more vivid... Along with Hollow Knight, best PC platformers there are on PC...
Who still prefers the Blind Forest graphics? I do. I can clearly see the movements and lighting are better in the Will of the Wisps but still love the casual feeling of the blind forest. When I was playing the blind forest there were certain moments that made me feel like I was playing well-made 2D graphics which I loved so much. But in the Will of the Wisps... Everything just feels like 3D because it's 3D. Better graphic is not always the best I guess. I prefer the Blind Forest... not just graphics but everything. Little disappointing, but still the Will of the Wisps is also great game. I enjoyed it.
I think that the scenarios in general like desert and ice were just better in comparison, Will of Wisp wasn't very profund on those type of scenarios, on Blind Forest the scenarios felt more like a main thing instead of something parallel/secondary.
I think theres a lot of big creature in will of the wisp that make the 3d aspect looks stand out. I really love both game but yea, the illusion of 2d in blind forest is better in my opinion.. maybe because i already know they made it with unreal engine too so my eyes is kinda anticipated the 3d more. Unlike blind forest, i knew about the unreal months after i finished the game..
technical upgrades of course but without the original artstyle and art success in general ( music , lightning, photography) there would not be Will of the wisps at all. Remember that.
I think the best change they made was the animation. In the first game, it was good, don't get me wrong, but it did look kind of choppy. But in the second game? Goodness, it's a blessing to the eyes
I guess I'm going against the majority when I say that I'm really kinda disappointed in the Will of the Wisps. Yes, the graphics are gorgeous BUT it's difficult sometimes to know what I can and can't jump/climb/etc. on. There are significantly more glitches in WotW, too. Right now, I'm playing it on Game Pass and it freezes every 5-10 min. (generally mid-jump or mid-battle). The majority of skill shards are kind of useless. In certain areas, jumping is practically impossible without hitting thorns. The boss battles in WotW don't hold a light to the difficulty of Blind Forest. And there are SO many controls (not all of which are in the same places as Blind Forest). While I know different games have done that before, being an avid Ori player (finished Blind Forest numerous times on all difficulties), it's highly frustrating. Rant summary: while the game IS beautiful, I do wish the creators had been a bit more true to form instead of turning it into an a massively more complex game than was necessary. Ori and the Blind Forest was beautiful in its amazing plot and difficult simplicity.
I honestly thought the platforming directions were more straight forward than BF. Other than the sequence where you have to hide from Shreik. Took me multiple tries to figure out where to go.
I think Will of Wisp's artwork is better graphically and technically. But Blind forest has soul behind the art.. I can't explain what I am noticing, but there is something special about it. edit: same with the music
I think I can tell how ori looks different in both games (besides oris sprite being changed to a 3d model). In ori and the blind forest ori was a baby/child when he was first introduced looking quite small and cute. In the next game I think he got a bit bigger due to age and time becoming a teenager.
