if you guys want to see glitchless speedruns on the official leaderboards (speedrun dot com / ori_de#Any), the category is Any% Selected Restrictions. We call it Selected Restrictions and not Glitchless because Ori has lots of grey areas when it comes to determining what is a glitch and what isn't, so we just compiled a big list of things that can or can't be done in the rules. Enjoy!
yeah Ori doesn't have story trigger requirements to start cutscenes, so as long as you can get to any place in the map where one of the ending cutscenes is located, you can complete the game. This is the fastest way, but you can also reach other parts of the ending cutscene, and even the credits directly.
If you don't like it, go watch a different category. Most of these tricks aren't easy either. This is any% and runs like this have their place in speedruns.
MichaelSSBM well, how should u have known, how this speedrun was archived, if i didn't take a look at this video first? Any%. That's the first time i heard about this, and logicaly, my first thought was, that this just meant, a 100% completion is not required. The game is not meant to be played in a way, where you glitch trough the map ans skip entire sections. So tell me, why should anybody be proud, if they use errors to get to the end in mere minutes? That is no sign of skill. At least not the type of skill that matters for a game lile that. Also, who says that those are even glitches in the game itself? What is convincing us, that somebody didn't just hacked the game code and added those "shortcuts" themself? So no. What we have here could, at best, be used for bugfixes and stuff. But claiming it to be a speedrun is pure arrogance and a lack of understanding how much work was put into such games.

Well... doesn't suddenly stop being true, does it? Speedrunning a game using glitches is like someone listening to your favorite album and constantly hitting fast forward and next track to get to the end as quickly as possible. No matter how amazingly creative he gets with hitting the buttons and how entertaining the whole thing becomes in its own right, it _does_ also ruin the music.

But they _will_ complain. Glitch-speedrun games if you must, nobody's stopping you. Just don't complain about people complaining.
I thought this was a joke at first. I mean, finishing a game that took me 7 hrs in 13 minutes sounds like a bit of a stretch. Then the glitch happened. So, wow. You did it. I'd still rather play the whole game, though. It's a beautiful game and all.
Speedrunning is a "scene" or a hobby if you will that's unrelated to regular videogaming. Who knows if these speedrunners might enjoy the game on their own pace the first time around (some don't care so much about every game they speedrun). It's like running a marathon, not related to sightseeing.
This game glitchless is about 50 minutes. A Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando run is also about 50 minutes, using every damn glitch you can imagine. So stop saying a game should be speedrun with no glitches, because some games would take more time than a human could probably manage (I'm not saying R&C2 is one of those cases)
Its still a speedrun, just a speedrun that also includes glitches. Speedrunning communities (there is one for every game being run) often decide to create multiple speedrunning categories for a game. The category in this video is called ‘any%’, which is the standard name for speedruns that allow the use of almost any trick or glitch that exists. But there will undoubtedy be another category that excludes the use of warping/teleporting to skip parts of the game.
Why? I really enjoyed this game casually, and seeing it speedrun is awesome. Seeing how people use the mechanics of the game to completely turn it on it's head is awesome.
Seth Dunn yeah I had to set to Japanese. I thought it was faster at the time but I've seen other runners just play with English, I don't think it makes a difference.
I think the reason Japanese was chosen in particular(assuming that the speedrunner doesn't primarily speak it) is that with older games, such as those before the seventh-generation of consoles, had more bugs on the Japanese versions of the game. Most people ended up using that version for their Any% category because it had the most potential bugs to exploit for faster times. While that is certainly not the case with this game, considering that it is on steam, and can be patched, the language choice could be an homage to that.
@Zerebrat Eightyseven it's an any% speed run which means anything goes including glitches. I'm sure what you are looking for would be a no glitches% or 100% run
There's a difference between speedrunning a game with glitches and literally breaking the game to finish it I refuse to count this as a legitimate speedrun, especially because in my eyes it's almost an injustice to how the game was crafted originally
most of the people that run have played the game an extensive amount (both in casual play and speedrunning) of time in the game and probably have a greater appreciation for it and how it was created than most casual players. This particular run is literally "how fast can you see the end game scene" and is the reason why other categories were made, not only to see the other parts of the game, but to also keep playing and enjoying the game longer.
Why play a game the same way every time if you can play it in multiple different ways and understand it more deeply? Do you really think speedrunners play the game in 11min once and never again? Glitches that don't affect casual play (I can safely presume you didn't do this warp displacement in your casual playthrough) are a good thing much more than they are a bad thing, since no one has a worse game experience because of them (if you don't want them, they don't happen), and some people will have fun with them, thus getting even more from the game than what the devs envisioned. Breaking games is fun, after you've enjoyed the original experience.
Do you guys know what a speedrun is? People saying that its cheating or "not a real speedrun" apparently have never done or seen a speedrun. I think ya'll mad cuz you don't have passion or will power to do something like this. Speedrunning is an art. Mad respect to you, my dude.
I guess it’s technically a speed run, but it’s not the kind that’s really that impressive. Speed running a game like this should be more of an endurance test and less “break the game in at the 13 minute mark and skip to the end.
there are multiple different ways to speedrun a game, known as categories. there are usually three categories that are included in speedruns of games: any% (get to the end, glitches allowed), any% glitchless (get to the end, but "correctly"), and 100% (do and get everything you can, then get to the end). this is a pure any% run. by the rules of any%, anything goes as long as you don't use built-in cheating methods (ex: console commands, button combos that give you OP stuff). therefore, this is a valid any% speedrun. if you want speedruns more to your taste, try the any% glitchless or 100% speedruns

4 ads within the first minute twenty? Come on.
Someone still plays this Game ? I luv u
Well, if you did this on One Life, you would get the three hardest achievements at once.
If this was your first time playing, and you did this glitch by mistake.... Oof....
watching this on 2x speed gives me so much anxiety
Where-is-the-developers-reaction-to-this-speedrunning??!
@Zerebrat Eightyseven it's an any% speed run which means anything goes including glitches. I'm sure what you are looking for would be a no glitches% or 100% run
Ori’s mom: **dies**
Ori: wait me 13minutes momma imma help you back
There's a difference between speedrunning a game with glitches and literally breaking the game to finish it
I refuse to count this as a legitimate speedrun, especially because in my eyes it's almost an injustice to how the game was crafted originally
Thats why categories were invented. Also using glitches to beat a game isn't an injustice. Let people play games how they want
most of the people that run have played the game an extensive amount (both in casual play and speedrunning) of time in the game and probably have a greater appreciation for it and how it was created than most casual players.
That's why there are 100% runs with way more views :P
Your opinion means nothing actually.
Me having 29 hours on the game & still not done yet
same
Do you guys know what a speedrun is? People saying that its cheating or "not a real speedrun" apparently have never done or seen a speedrun. I think ya'll mad cuz you don't have passion or will power to do something like this. Speedrunning is an art. Mad respect to you, my dude.
I guess it’s technically a speed run, but it’s not the kind that’s really that impressive. Speed running a game like this should be more of an endurance test and less “break the game in at the 13 minute mark and skip to the end.
It's a any percent speedrun....smh so dumb
Ori and the will of the wisps is coming out 11 february!
No
Do a Developers react on this
I honestly am just trying to understand that glitch because it's quite interesting and don't think I've seen anything similar in other finished games
it's a very convoluted glitch so I made a pastebin
hope it helps dispel some confusion!

This isn’t a speed run. It’s a glitch.
there are multiple different ways to speedrun a game, known as categories. there are usually three categories that are included in speedruns of games: any% (get to the end, glitches allowed), any% glitchless (get to the end, but "correctly"), and 100% (do and get everything you can, then get to the end). this is a pure any% run. by the rules of any%, anything goes as long as you don't use built-in cheating methods (ex: console commands, button combos that give you OP stuff). therefore, this is a valid any% speedrun. if you want speedruns more to your taste, try the any% glitchless or 100% speedruns
Got to the credits in 13 minutes, pretty sure that's a speedrun
this is a Speedrun. you are a dumb.

How do you know that there are no glitches in this game?
Nastya Wolf hopes. Just hopes and Dreams.
Probably the only game I've played where dying 100+ times didn't discourage me but made me want to keep playing lol
So basically you just break the game and cheat through it, interesting
It's any percent, so yeah.
It's not cheating...smh so dumb
