For people that are new here, this is a brief backstory. So Malice Mizer has three "eras". One that is punk/goth then this one which you are seeing now which is kind of the Baroque/commercial period and then the completely gothed out/metal/industrial period after this . The singer of the first version was Tetsu ( probably the only singer I couldn't really get into...very punk-ish and all over the place ). The next era was this one which had the singer Gackt who sang on two albums ( this album was their biggest success)...however he abruptly left the band to pursue a solo career ( and he is currently one of the biggest superstars in Japan today although his ego is through the roof...and he also claims he is a 400 year old vampire) and soon after the drummer of this video (Kami) died of a subarachnoid brain hemorrhage (he is now an eternal member). The remaining three members regrouped but had no drummer or singer. They returned completely gothed out ( think of harpsichords and pipe organs and vampires, dark choirs...some really atmospheric stuff). They came out with a video and small box set to honor their deceased drummer. Soon after they recruited a new singer Klaha ...who also looks like a vampire. The music they created with him is definitely darker and ominous. The band went on hiatus in 2001 and the singer from this era just kinda disappeared off the face of the earth which is weird as hell. The leader of this band is Mana ( the one dressed in blue in this video). He (yes it is a he) directs and controls every aspect of this band. He does not speak in public and will instead whisper to other members to talk for him...he will basically stare into your soul with no expression. He is extremely respected as being revolutionary in the visual KEI movement...( He is also known as Mana-sama in Japan). He also has a very dark goth metal band called Mois dix Moi. The other members are Yu-ki (bass)-often dresses as a vampire in later stuff... and Kozi (guitar). They also made a feature length vampire movie (they don't speak- it's like a silent movie with subtitles and constant music in the background which comes from their last album). They also have a mini movie which is part of this video here ( it kinda shows how Gackt got to the point of holding the dead female). Crazy stuff but really good because there's really nothing like it. Every song is a different style. Hope this helps new listeners.

Aegean will always take me back to 2017 Shibuya, in the pouring rain, with a raspberry latte. The timing of this song popping up on shuffle was stunning. I probably looked crazy, grinning and crying as I got more and more soaked, while people passed by under their umbrellas. I just felt so happy to be alive in that moment.

i never write youtube comments but i am bored and feeling a little sappy. malice mizer came into my life when i didn't realize i needed their music. i am a young american girl who doesn't speak any japanese, but when i first heard au revoir while scrolling on the internet late one night, it literally transformed my outlook on music. it is such a universal way of expressing love, and the uniqueness and just exactly what is special about them is just how many audiences they are able to reach. mana is a phenomenal composer. This story is quite long but I need to say this because a bunch of emotions had emerged from this playlist but nostalgia is the most present right now. It was in the middle of 2007 when my first approach to Visual Kei was during those years in which it became pretty notorious on the internet and I was amazed by the first Gackt's soloist song Mizerable particularly by its video then a friend of mine from Chile told to me in messenger "welcome to the path of light" in Spanish and she shared with me Gardenia. Don't have to say that I instantly fell in love with Malice Mizer and during my school week all my bus ridings at dawn to the technology institute were otherworldly with their songs. For those who just have discovered this band and are loving them thanks to this amazing playlist I need to recommend to you the Merveilles album which is my all the time favorite (ofc I love the rest too but that one has a special place in my heart) the Merveilles album version of Aegen and Le Ciel will burn your soul and I'm sure your appreciation for this band will last for the rest of your lives. Many years have passed with hardships and good moments and today that I was driving near the institute I just had the need to listen up to Malice Mizer again and my first choice was Aegen and then youtube put this playlist on the queue and I still can't believe how alive I'm feeling today, thank you very much.

Is there a Malice Mizer resurgance rn? I was a fan in high school ~2005 and now it seems like they've magically gained a bunch of more fans in the past couple years.
