Hey C4! Still following you on to yet another game I own and have played--a little less on this one, though. I got Clank! Catacombs at the end of last year and have played through several of the solo chapters. I'd never played Clank! before and have had to replay the scenarios a few times as I learn the rules and have to revisit to fix my play errors. They have actually updated the app several times to make things clearer during setup and better explained some of the rules. A few play notes for you: 46:00 This is a bit confusing. When you defeated the skeleton it pops up the "Collapse" instruction screen that tells you to collapse the tile nearest you or where instructed to by the game. This is instructional only, not a command. The collapse command comes after that screen where you are supposed to only collapse tiles that have portals. So you would not have collapsed any tiles at this point in the game, though it would not have affected the game outcome. 1:34:25 You were misreading the Librarian card. It says "If you have *a* Secret Tome" draw two cards not "If you have *two* Secret Tomes." 1:35:40 You failed to notice you drew a Dragon and neglected to pull cubes this turn. 1:41:00 I'm curious by the end why you were throwing away spending opportunities to buy cards that give you points when you were past the point of needing to worry about clogging your deck? 1:42:25 I noticed this a few times earlier: You should be dealing yourself 5 cards before refilling the row. The reason is if the dragon attacks and you pull a ghost cube, you had a card that you can discard to ignore the damage from the ghost cube, but you won't know that if you don't have your hand available first. Looking forward to the rest of this series!

I might have to ask you for a list of games you DON'T have so I can play something fresh for you! :) I actually have a pretty good idea of what I will play next; it's one I am convinced I am one of four people on the planet who really like the game.
D'oh, what a fun mistake, collapsing early! That was brutal, but so much fun!
I just had a look at the Librarian card, that's so funny, I thought that was an awfully tough requirement to trigger. I see -2 clank, 2 cards, 2 Skill... I think my brain just threw in another 2! :)
Dang, I was worried about missing Dragon Attacks as well as Arrives. Playing in a group I'm not reading the cards and putting them on a camera, just tossing them out there looking for the text/icons. At some point I tried to pick up the bag and hold it to remind me. :)
I was not buying cards because I was worried about dying! Basically just hoping for less Dragon Attacks, even though the app is keeping that a possibility, I wasn't taking any chances! I was also not keeping track of how much Clank I had in the bag. When playing in person I know exactly how many cubes are in there and possibility of getting knocked out, here I just didn't keep count (I usually make little piles of 5 cubes to make it easy to figure).
I definitely should be drawing cards beforehand, this is just a bad habit I would probably not notice if I had the card anyway :)

I noticed a thing while watching you that I haven't noticed before. If you have a "draw a card" card that would cause a reshuffle, you could buy from the marketplace before playing that card. The card would go into your discard pile. Then play the card that would cause the draw, and the card you just bought would be shuffled in immediately and might come up in that turn. The disadvantage is that you might miss out on being able to buy something expensive, so it wouldn't always be the right choice, but it's an available tactic when it makes sense.

That has never occurred to me! I play (some flavor of) Clank! with my wife very often, it is now my mission to successfully pull this off. :D

Thanks for letting me know this exists! The wife and I gave it a try (playing it together as 1). Our playthrough was not so smooth as we got blocked off from the Monkey idol so the only way in was teleporting over the one way arrow. It took forever to find a teleportation card and get in there. Then we were lucky enough to make it into the above ground area, but got knocked out 1 step away from the exit. Our score was an A- with 163 points.

Oh wow, that's frustrating that you can get blocked off from the monkey idol, but pretty great you can (if luck is with you) find a way around it. Cards with Teleport or the Dungeon Map major secret would be your only hope, and there's not many of those at all. Getting knocked out with that many points still sounds like a great game was played!

@CeePhour What happened was defeating the Skelton closed off the one side of the Monkey area, and the tile I was on currently had no way into that tile.

I thoroughly enjoyed this whole campaign. If there were more campaigns available (for purchase, even) I would be all over them. @DireWolfDigital did a great job with this.

Do you have any "house rules" that you like to play with that make this game more cooperative when playing with your wife or others?

    • @CeePhour
      @CeePhour  8 месяцев назад +1

My wife and I played Clank Legacy which is a bit weird because there's sort of a co-operative understanding of "don't end it until you have to" because there's so much to see and do, as opposed to Dungeon/Space/Catacombs where it's every thief for themself. Clank games are our most played (my wife's favorite, so...) and we have one other friend who really enjoys it, so we're the opposite of more co-operative. We are very cut throat with our Clank :)
The closest thing to a house rule we ever used was keeping the +5 Skill (major), +2 Skill (minor), and Trash a Card (minor) tokens in our "hand/inventory" until we WANTED to spend them. It was simply a fault of me not being able to read. :P It made them way more fun to find, but also very powerful.

The token protector, where did you get it from?

eBay. There's a lot of Chinese sellers that usually sell 100 for around $10. Takes two weeks to get to the US.

    what metal coins you using?

The "Fire Coin" set. They have dragons on them, I thought they fit Clank! rather well :)
I believe they are from www.fantasycoin.com/Fire-Coin-Set_c_17.html but I bought them from www.topshelfgamer.com/products/fire-coin-set-in-a-burgundy-bag-set-of-50 (they were on sale for $35 at the time).
