This is really good! Never played this module (I have Heart of Darkness and Destroyer of Worlds). I really like how the players know when to joke around and wisecrack and at the same time balance it with moments of seriousness and fear when the scene calls for it. Hats off to 'em!
Michael looks and plays his role so perfect -all are doing so great! hollywood is calling. I would rather go with this cast for the new Disney-adaption as with the real cast.
This is great, thanks guys! I'll be running this soon so it's helpful to see it played first, and you all clearly wanted your characters to feel authentic to the Alien films. Good job!
I own the CRB for this game and i was thinking of running it for some friends, i searched it up to find a game on youtube to get an idea of things and saw a few but you guys were the only ones i saw with the backgrounds, the graphics, the sounds, etc that showed you really put a lot into the atmosphere for the viewers, thats why i clicked on your video and i love it so far (only about 1/3 of the way through this episode and I hope theres more honestly!). I am most definitely subscribing, i liked the video the second i clicked on it so that's done but you definitely earned a sub for the effort here it's so immersive, the entire cast is great and I just love this man, this is why I got into TTRPGs. Thank you for sharing!
Well played, everyone. I am currently running Chariots as well and if there's one thing I have learnt so far regarding future Alien/Free League scenarios , it's that I need to take more notes beforehand... 😄 Spoiler ahead for those that have not yet watched the video: I was very surprised, even shocked, that you decided to force-reveal Lucas this early in the scenario. My players are currently at the start of Act III and she is still unrevealed. I am soooo looking forward to Kayla's hopefully shocking reveal. I hope she twists Clayton's neck off in a fitting dramatic moment... 😁
Super helpful, especially the live referencing (seriously). I'm due to run this and the pace is spot on for learning mechanics, with a group that's interesting to listen to. TY
I'm running this for the second time and I thought I could get some insight on how to improve my own GM'ing and this did exactly that! Was wonderful to watch this! ^^
All caught up on phandelver and below. This one caught my eye. It’s so fun! Makes me want to run this. Hahaha All the sound effects are super nice. Sad it’s only 3 episodes but I am going to enjoy it.
This is super cool! I have only played this once, I was a pilot and the gm made me stay in the cockpit the whole time, but seeing this was super awesome! Y'all did a great job!
@g00se99 I've played with that gm before and he's not the most personable of people. I also think he realized I actually could solve the issue and the person who picked captain couldn't so maybe he just wanted people to fail. Who knows
Everyone did a great job creating the Alien atmosphere. I liked this enough that I think I'll mention it to my group and see if they'd like to give this one a shot. Not sure if you've gotten around to Destroyer of Worlds yet but if not I'm hoping you'll run it.
I'm so glad I can vicariously enjoy your friendships and game playing since I have no friends who would dare come near me if I asked them to play Alien RPG. My wife thinks I'm on a Zoom meeting from work every time I watch you guys. Don't tell her.
I ran this last summer (unfortunately it petered out in Act II from player absence), I love how flexible the game system is. I didn't have a player for Davis, so I made them Lucas.
@@DorkTales Heh my players are VERY into the intrigue and RP... we're going into our fifth session! It's already had some of my favourite TTRPG moments ever, will recommend.
For future referrence a CC is equal to an ML. 1 ounce is 30CC. 1/10th an ounce is 3mls. A flu shot (quadrivalent 0.7ml) and shingle shot is 0.5cc. Vials come in 1 to 10mls usually. My groups consists of a Pharm , Radiological and Lab Tech for crime unit, a Microbiologist, a Navy Pilot and up to 3 computer programers with more than half of us being ex-military. Our games can become quite intense.
Nice! Yeah, I can never remember those stats, but that quick guide might help me in the future. I have a feeling your games are pretty hardcore with that kind of lived knowledge behind them.
I am running this scenario and my first character death was a head crushing attack that failed the armor roll. I thought the same thing was going to happen to Miller.
Ah, my group played through Act one a few months back, of the original crew of P.Cs, mine was the last living (was playing as John, and I played him as a creole louisiana resident), credited my long lasting-ness to Meemaws Craw recipie
I think the corpo has a secret pistol (VP70) in this cinematic, which is purposefully omitted in the passage GM read out loud about everyone only having their signature item. I can't tell if Michael is playing that close or really thinks he only has his special access card. I thought he was bluffing until he asked for the M4A1 service pistol.
There was no indication of a secret weapon on the character brief I had, but I figured no one would be brave enough to pull a weapon on their 'meal ticket' anyway, so I was going to defend Wilson with sheer persuasion and intimidation (Until episode 3 when negotiations kind of broke off!)
Was that scuttling sound near 1:54:50 added in later for effect? or something you triggered during the live scene. Cause it looked like you watched your monitor to see if any of the players noticed it going off right before asking for the observation check.
Nope, its said that Cronus was launched in 2110. And it was missing for three quarters of the century. Alien RPG game takes place roughly in 2183, few years after LV-426.
The hardest thing about the module I found was a mix of the pacing and the strange layout of the ship. Get yourself REALLY well acquainted with the maps and the sequence of events and then lean into the buildup. A lot of the tasks that the players have to do take a LOT of time to do (such as the scrubbers) so look at ways to make the shifts pass in a more even manner so that no one feels left out or bored. If you have any more specific questions, let me know!
Cool. Sounds like its focus is strongly on great storytelling then and would be good for those of us with cognitive difficulties who miss out on a lot of TTRPG games that over-complicate a rule system or have too many rules that we feel overwhelmed. I mean, I could see just from this first video that there’s a good emphasis on the players and atmosphere. I like that. :)
thank you for including your pronouns in your introductions. that is still a pretty rare thing. i hope one day it wont be. helping to normalize this. including pronouns is also a great way to signal to trans/nb/gender queer folks that this is a safe place for us to be. just wanted to express my gratitude to you all. ✌️😘
Hey, thanks for leaving this comment! It really means a lot that you feel welcomed and safe in our community. I hope you have a great time and that we see you around!
Well, I was excited to see a run of the scenario that I'm about to run, but the unnecessary pronoun introductions are just goofy as hell. Have fun guys, I'm out.
Supporting our LGTBQ+ friends and family isn't goofy in our books, but someone feeling compelled to announce that they're leaving a video because of pronouns sure is
@Dork Tales Announcing your pronouns when your pronouns are the same as 99% of the world is silly. If they're different, sure, clarification might be necessary. If you're trying to announce your support for someone, just announce your support. "HI, I'm Robert, the sky is blue, gravity exists, and you're looking at a screen that runs on electricity." Just supporting my scientist friends. Don't mind me.

Same, I own HoD and Dow. Why does CotG cost double ?
This was awesome, you guys killed it as always. The graphics, sound and editing added so much to the atmosphere. Looking forward to act 2!
Thanks Colin!

I love the VHS overlay. The story reminds me so much of the Alien films. Great job everyone!
Robin’s seductive delivery of “Forklift certified”, though. 😂😂😂

Hi new to your channel & this 1st Alien episode was fantastic and the vhs overlay with the sound, music just WOW!👍
Looking forward episode 2!

Kelly's inability to read a map strikes again! The CRT/VHS graphic artefacts style is really neat, too.
;_;
I can't read a map, but I sure can glitch a screen

fun to watch. Great Mother. need more GMs like this. Cool players.

Most were played live for the PCs! Tabletopaudio has a lot of great Alien themed SFX you can stream to your players.
Cham, Lyida ... nice one
Do y'all have a soundboard for this? The sound effects are brilliant.
Thanks! A lot of it can be found on the custom soundboards of tabletopaudio.com
Can anyone tell me what software was used for the video conferencing? I really like the look of it.
This was back when we were using Zoom, but we've since moved on to Ping.gg.
Thank you for the reply. 😊 I didn't know you could do things like that in Zoom. I will investigate. Thanks again!
It's a bit of work, but you can! The scanlines and effects were added in post, but the backgrounds were images I supplied the players in advance.
This module seems to take place around Prometheus or Alien Covenant's point in the time-line.
