    These are my FAVORITE types of videos. Super practical, great info, lots of fun. I am completely volunteer and still consider myself a baby Christian so I have no youth ministry experience to base my own ministry on.

    When I was in 4th grade, my teacher wrote down a list of student names in the class as a part of a game that we were going to resume playing the next time that we had indoor recess. About a month later, we had indoor recess and she pulled the list of student names back out. Instead of writing down "Beau" she wrote down "Beans." I was known as "Beans" for the rest of 4th and all of 5th grade.

    Hi! I’m learning how to be organized - it’s not something that was modeled for me. How do you organize these hard copies calendars? Is it a stapled packet of 3 months worth of calendars? How do you fit the right info on the right page? What does this look like behind the scenes? Do you use a big hand written calendar for yourself, google calendar, outlook, etc? Any advice on all this? Thank you so much in advanced, this video was so eye opening. You said that you had your whole year planned? I plan the month of every month, every year. I always feel like I’m barely keeping my head above the water, so I really mean it when I say thank you.

    How did you choose Tuesday’s to be your youth night?
    Are you over just JH or are you over HS as well?
    Does your youth pastor have a channel like this?
    I’m a new youth pastor over JH and HS in San Antonio

    • @MinistryCoach
      @MinistryCoach  Год назад +1

      Hi Jesus, thank you for commenting and congratulations on your new position! Our church has always had Middle School on Tuesdays and High School on Wednesdays...no particular reason why, outside of making sure we aren't there at the same time to maximize the use of the facilities. The HS pastor doesn't have a channel unfortunately. He is featured in this episode though: ruclips.net/video/8xnu5IheSOI/видео.html

    Great video! Curious why you wait to hand out calendar in segments rather than your full year calendar? 3 month calendar and year calendars can all be adjusted if needed, so what's the benefit in your opinion?

    • @MinistryCoach
      @MinistryCoach  2 года назад +3

      Great question!
      I write my entire calendar in November or December of the previous year. But, like you said, I only release it by seasons (3 months at a time). Here are some of the reasons for that.
      Once you give someone information it cannot be easily adjusted without a lot of confusion and loss of trust. I might not be able to pin down exactly what time students need to get picked up from summer camp in December, for instance, so I will fine tune those details right before it's released. I absolutely HATE telling people that we changed something on the calendar. To me it seems unreliable and disorganized. As a parent, it's very frustrating.
      I might change my mind. If I need to adjust an event a couple month before because I took a speaking job or booked a family vacation, I want the freedom to adjust something as I get closer.
      People will not keep my calendar for a whole year. I tell them the big dates like summer camp way in advance, but I find there is renewed interest when you give something quarterly rather than just one time a year and expect people to hang onto it for 12 months.
      Hope this helps!!!

    If you have events all year with the exception of a few weeks, do you take your vacation time during those weeks?

    • @MinistryCoach
      @MinistryCoach  2 года назад +1

      Hey Dave! For vacation time, I just schedule it in advance and make sure my team is equipped to handle the weekend services/midweek program. We have worked together for so long that they can handle it no problem, but I just try my best to have everything ready to go for them so it's not putting any unnecessary burden on them.

    Hey guys!! Thanks for this episode, I love y'all and everything that you do and share. I have a question about these events...I have a leadership team of volunteers. How much of the planning is your leadership team involved in? As well, how much of the set up and preparation are they involved in? There are a lot of details in some of the events, and without a paid staff, I never want to overwhelm volunteers, but also want to delegate and let them be a part of the planning and leading. It's a lot of work for just me to set up, but the volunteers have jobs and things during the day. So more often than not, if we are having a big night midweek, I am alone in the actual physical set up. Any suggestions or thoughts??

    • @MinistryCoach
      @MinistryCoach  2 года назад +1

      Hi Kasey!
      So glad you are enjoying our content!
      That's a really good question. Here are some thoughts:
      - This is where a student leadership team really comes in handy; especially if it's made of high school students. They can come early before the event and help you set up.
      -Another option for help is to ask an adult small group if they'd like to come and serve by helping with set up and/or clean up. Our church requires the small groups to do at least 1 service project a semester. Maybe they'd be willing to help you out for a big event.
      -Even if you can just get one or two other leaders to come an hour early to help that would make a huge difference!
      -Ask the church staff to help you!!!
      I hope one of these ideas help! Thanks for reaching out!!!

    Hey! So what exactly do you guys offer for students on Sunday? Like we do a midweek service but currently don’t have anything on Sunday. Also hardly any students come on Sunday which is why I havnt planned anything ever. But now I’m thinking THATS why they havnt came. Haha. What’re some ideas for things you can do during Sunday mornings for students?

    • @MinistryCoach
      @MinistryCoach  2 года назад

      Hi thanks for reaching out!
      Good point, it's kind of like that old saying, "if you build it, they will come." So it ends up being that self-fulfilling cycle of no one is coming, so we don't have anything or is it the other way around? I guess there's only one way to find out!
      Yes, so we have 3 weekend service options:
      -Saturday night at 5:30 pm
      -Sunday morning at 9:00 and 11:00 am
      These services are all the same. We meet in the jr. high room for church. This entails time to hang out before service, announcements, game, worship and a message.
      My advice would be to make sure you have a space for students. We have jr. high room with video games, air hockey, coloring books, foosball, ultimate 4 square, donuts, etc. Also, we did an episode on youth rooms. You should check that one out for some ideas! ruclips.net/video/2iRW2M4haNI/видео.html
      Give time to hang out then bring everyone together for announcements and a fun group game. Then do a short worship set (2 or 3 songs) and then a message. It's great for students to have an age appropriate option for church because adult services can be a little over their head with no opportunity to connect.
      Hope this helps!!!

      My concern about offering student-specific weekend services is that it “silos” students with only their peers and hampers them from being integrated into the larger inter-generational church. I agree that it probably seems less appealing immediately to students, but if they grew up in church or started to come later on (jr/sr high) and all they know is student ministry programming, they will likely “check out” of church as soon as they don’t have a “place” anymore (don’t have programming for their specific age group). Inter generational relationships in the church body are integral to lifelong faith. Unfortunately this isn’t every church, but ideally all churches would view teens as an integral part of the body and would be willing to tailor weekend services with them (at least partly) in mind.
      Are there other ways that your church(es) have been able to cultivate these inter-generational relationships between students and older/younger people?

    • @kaseyoliver2738
      @kaseyoliver2738 2 года назад

      @@mattbratton9516 Hey! We don't have programming on the weekend either, aside from Small Groups (Sunday school). But one way that we still mix old/young is by inviting the youth to Women's and Men's Ministry every month. Also we use the youth in ministry on Sundays. They are in the sound booth, ushers, greeters, coffee shop, and working in kids ministry. So if you can help them find a place to serve, when high school and youth group is over, they are still involved in church and in a ministry

    Youth should be in "Big Church," not off own their own services. All the stats point to youth being separate from Big Church being the reason they leave the church once they're adults (off to college) - They've never been in church, and now they don't want to :(
