Great tips, but please reconsider the shirt, especially in youth ministry.

Youth should be in "Big Church," not off own their own services. All the stats point to youth being separate from Big Church being the reason they leave the church once they're adults (off to college) - They've never been in church, and now they don't want to :(

Regarding #1: I think it is the youth pastor's job to discern whether or not an idea or "problem" is worth the effort. Sometimes, the juice is not worth the squeeze.

I'll be meeting with my youth leaders sometime in January to plan out the first half of 2025. I'm going to use the evaluation levels - Green, Blue, Red - to get their perspective on how we are doing as we look forward and review where we are. I don't consider this cheating but in college I had to take an exam early to go home for a funeral. The professor printed the test out for me to take, and sent me to an empty classroom. When I sat down to take the test, I realized he had printed the test out with all the answers on it. I knew I had to take it back to him...but I did memorize the first 3 or 4 answers! When I took it back, he couldn't figure out how to print it without the answers, so he used a sharpie to black out the answers. Although by the time I sat back down, the ink had dried and the answers were still visible. I could have gotten 100%, but this class was really hard and that would have been obvious. Plus he graded on a curve so if I got 100% it would affect all my friends. The average high score on his test was about 87-90%, so I calculated how many I needed to get wrong to get a 92%. Not too high to mess up the curve, but high enough to pretty much assure I got the highest grade in the class. Maybe some will consider that cheating, but I gave the professor the chance to take back the sheet with the answers, and he gave it back to me so my conscience has been clear in the 20ish years since college.

Hey guys! I love the encouragement and ideas you guys always give, and you both have made a lasting impression on how me and my wife lead our youth group. I do have a question; what are your tips for social media for the group? Like a group tiktok, group insta… stuff like that. I’m 24 and been bivocational for four years, but I am HORRIBLE at social media and would like to tackle that side of things going into the new year

I do appreciate this video. I will say that you should not entirely throw out the idea of youth gathering for the word of God without games and fun all the time. We've turned the gospel into programs and events and it's truly off the rails. I personally was saved because of Bible study at 14 years old. Hearing the gospel in a real way. It wasn't the programs and games. I don't even remember any of that.

Cell phones? What about kids who are coming to church for the first time as teens/pre-teens without parents? How do we teach them to be respectful during church? Really this is for regular church. Hoping to start "youth service" in January. I think you start by making it engaging, but I need tips!

So true! My wife and I started volunteering learning from other youth pastors. We are taking over as Youth Pastors, first meeting is Dec 29th, with 12 teens. As Royal Tailor said... Ready. SET. Go. My wife has the ministry degree, mine is in Social sciences. Dont matter, the best is You learn as you go..... 😊btw....love the discussions. They have helped out alot! Learned alot!

Believe it or not , I was chased by a squirrel too. I just blurted out squirrel to that question before you answered. It was very weird and strange. I was make a call outside of my office and it just stood and looked at me and stared coming towards me

Agreed!!! I have a BA for teachering, not theological degree. But, I love kids they love me and I study the Bible a lot. If you have a good study guide it can be easy.

Thank you for this reminder because I am feeling OVERWHELMED and struggling! I’m struggling with time management. I have a full time job and it’s a brand new role. So I’m trying to understand the new job and I’m a single mom with a daughter in extra curricular activities. And I am the only youth teacher. 😩 I feel like I have no time for anything. And when I do have time I just wanna lay there because I’m exhausted 😩 Oh and ive been chased by a goose. They are scary 😂

I have just gotten through a difficult spot in youth ministry and still going, but realizing that I have the Holy Spirit behind me and praying all the way through is keeping me going. Yes Trust God!

As a YP for just over a year now - and someone who never wanted to be a YP but God had other plans - I still don't feel prepared! Every week the youth seem to come up with a new thing that challenges me. But I am starting to see fruits - growing youth group, first time decisions for Christ, and next steps of faith like Baptisms. I'm glad to know its okay to not feel fully prepared to be a Youth Pastor. I can't recall getting chased by an animal other then a dog before. I did do a hike with some friends through woods one time and smelled cantaloupe and cucumbers for most of the walk to only find out afterwards that smell is a warning scent emitted by copperheads, so they may have been stalking us without our knowledge. Didn't enter the woods the rest of that vacation!!

❓QUESTION OF THE DAY: What is an animal that has chased you (besides a dog)?❓

I listen on podcast and still enjoy the bloopers (I came here just to tell you haha) We did the summer Olympics and our events were pool noodle javelin, water balloon shotput, a relay race, team chant/national anthems, and team flag decorating. It went great! Games and events have always been the hardest part of youth ministry for me but I always feel excited about them after getting ideas from your podcasts. It’s really improved my youth ministry program as a whole!

How about when everyone looks at you, they oppose your dream of becoming a youth pastor, even though God himself called you to it. They use your physical infirmities to justify their claims of you not becoming one

They make lice bedding spray maybe have a rotation and spray after the kid takes it off but you have a couple more that are dry already to rotate.

I love the games. Thanks! I'm just wondering what kind of church believes in leprechauns and celebrates halloween? Also, please be careful with your hand gestures/signals. I don't have a religious spirit. I do know Christians should not celebrate halloween (no matter how cute the children look in angel costumes). Again, thank you for the ideas.May God bless you both.

We do about 6 1/2. We have youth programming during our 9 am service but not during the 10:30 service, which is mainly attended by everyone who volunteered during the 9 am service. I'm looking to launch a student leadership team and begin doing worship in the new year. Would you say worship should be done on Sunday and at the midweek program? Right now it would just be me up front playing and leading, so not super dynamic right now until I can build up a team around me.

My mother was raised in the south, she would make "southern tea" for a while, but then as my parents got older she puts way less sugar in her tea (still sweet). Ruin coffee, too sweet. I've swapped my coffeemate creamer to almond creamer.

You guys always mention relationship building, fun, silly, serious, deep, etc. I love that, but I'm also kinda lost there. What about an episode that goes in depth each of those things? Or maybe a separate episode for each word. Like, what can I add to my Youth Group to encourage relationship building? What do junior and senior high youth consider fun and silly? How deep can I go into scripture before it starts going over their head?
