Nice to see the Morfa transport Seddon Atkinson my dad drove for them was killed in a road accident driving a Atkinson for them 53 years ago I was only a young boy remember like it was yesterday god bless him
S and K. Still going strong... I enjoyed my time with them.. As a little lad in Cheltenham ((Still the A40) before the bridges to my Mums despair all night I would spot The Welsh Steel and Coal lorries negotiate Boots Corner outwards and back loaded with bales of scrap metal.. Entress off to Vauxhall motors. Blue line and Rickets of Ewenny off to Ford's of Dagenham.. Memories and me still at it nearly 80 UK And Europe. Keep Em Lit Lads. Douglas Vick.
Living on the English Welsh border, I still see most of these companies lorries passing through. I did nearly 50 years on the road starting at BRS Gloucester, and ending up at M&B Haulage, Although M&B was a West Yorkshire Haulier, they had two lorries based in the Forest of D . I think in my day, drivers were all friends and would help each other out with slipped loads breakdowns roping and sheeting etc, but not any more I fear, GPS ?? not for me.
Great video, I remember a lot of those firms, when I used to live in Caerleon before moving to New Zealand in 1992. I am yet to see on your videos some of Hazels haulage. They were based in the Goldclif area of Newport and used to run a lot of stuff in and out of Llanwern steel works. Mainly coal in and coil and cobble plate out. Ah the memories…..
Yes you are correct there’s a long story to that involving a son which I won’t say no more but they ended up in so much debt Nolan’s paid a pound for the company paid of the debt as long as he kept the name and the livery
Charles footman is now owned by tony powell transport he bought them out when the old man died, the entress in the start I remember a driver called yorkie ,I used to go on the road with mates started shunting in port talbot for joints,Raymond, blue line transport then drove for loads of hauliers tdw,Cardiff transport, carline, now driving for scott commercial,I know all these firms ,some no longer with us
There was also another big road haulage company in South Wales... Now I know I'm going to end up spelling it wrong, which I do apologise for but they were called something like Cadwalladers, or something like that.... And I'm sure the company had blue trucks... Tippers and bulkers if my memory serves me right.
Hi, Just wondering why Sheddick Transport, Ken Jones, Bowketts etc, are not in this video. Sheddicks were one of the biggest hauliers, mainly Mercedes in South Wales. Inteseting video, especially the real oldies. Thanks.
