I passed my class one at Allinsons in 1979 then moved on to John Dee when I was 24 and I’m still at Katem transport now. These photos brought back some memories great to see but sadly a lot of the companies have gone. We’ve gone from transport to logistics but sadly the jobs not the same as when I started but thanks for this excellent reminder of what the job was. Best episode yet!!
It made me smile to see Freeway at 5:12. I worked there for a few years and got on well with the owner, Joe Corbett but not his son, inevitably known as Sooty. He wasn't a business man but a vindictive and spiteful bully. In those days all the drivers were members of the T&GWU and I decided to set up some social events such as dinners for wives and g/f. Sooty took exception to this and hired one of his yes men to beat me up. He then fired me on the spot whilst I was still covered in blood. Needless to say, I was reinstated the next day when the T&GWU turned up. Joe was very kind to me but Sooty sulked for a whole year because I became untouchable. I was a great supporter of the unions until Scargill came along and tried to turn union power into a political power.
You missed the most notorious of them all JD Maws from Sunderland…John Dee is now Katem quite a few of these are still going same owner ship different names…
Nice to see some of my pics 👍👍👍

Hello Neil lad hope you're doing well
Music is good. Some really nice trucks as well.
I did many years on the road starting on the BRS in 1965, I remember coming across most of these firms along the way,, great photos.
Many thanks for that, a real blast from the past there.
Brilliant video mate sadly most of these firms are long gone
