That track is still used. It’s not Amtrak (which is a passenger railway). It is operated by Pan Am Southern out of their yard in Bristol. (Pan Am Southern which runs from Deerfield mass (huge yard), Mass, I think maybe New Hampshire, and Maine. Also runs to Waterbury and sometimes on the mainline down from Deerfield spurs out from meridian and leading to Bristol and Waterbury. At the other side of that tunnel there is a company that receives tanker cars for fuel, then the tracks end and the rest of that line is now a forest. I highly doubt Amtrak would ever go through because they would have to rebuild that entire line and it mostly goes to rural areas. My guess is that there hasent been track or railroad service past that fuel company for at least 4 decades

It’s crazy how cold it is in the tunnel even during the summer months. We checked it out a few times including today

A lot of memories going through that tunnel and they're quads of dirt bikes. They used to be one of those little openings that said the troll with a graffiti troll and it was pretty creepy

The second set of tracks were removed in 1948 after the WW2 traffic subsided. The train station stood on the east end of the tunnel on the left in the distance. I have video from the 1950's of New Haven Railroad trains going through the tunnel filmed by New Britain native Kent Cochrane who was an avid railfan, and former US Army photographer. You can still find video of this line.

Took my future wife from TN and me from Watertown through the tunnel around mid 80s. A train came through while inside. We hid in the cutout till it passed. The train stopped at the Bristol end and we thought we were caught. Come to find out the crew cut a few cars there and moved on. Good memories.

I will definitely try to! I just need to find more interesting places to visit! The weather is not helping right now though. It may not be until the Spring that I find a lot of new places to visit.

As for the divers in the wall with the holes in the side of the wall. Maybe that area wasn't for pedestrians to stand in but rather it was for placement of electrical equipment and those holes were conduits for wiring perhaps?

We grew up referring to that as the mile-long tunnel. Although it's not quite a mile

Oh OK. Makes sense. It sure felt like a mile long when I was at the half way point. Very spooky. Thanks for watching!

The Tunnel is still used, I live not far from that tunnel, and the track is still very much active. It was the property of PanAm Railway but PanAm sold that line,,they transport goods to a few factories

@@maryguerra5882 Been in Florida for 20 years So I am unsure if the Factory is still called Arthur Industries . IT is about 200 yards east of Arthur Industries Where they were making prefabricated buildings Or about 1/2 mile east of where the South Eagle Rd in Terryville goes over the tracks

I think the square air vent things were for a telephone or power The spot where the section of the wall fell in with the pipes is where The 2 workers died and haunt.

Bullshit ! Always been single track! All the debris is the effort to keep out ATVs! You need to do more research before you try to make $$$$ on your inaccurate information!!
