    There's a lot of stuff I appreciate in this video:
    - the SICK new idea!
    - the movie reference cuts
    - the music (is it vaporwave?!)
    - separating and blinding the drams for us to see (also proof in case Dillon tries to deny anything)
    - great content as always
    Amazing job, thank you!

    Yes, that was awesome. I love this format, please: more. As much as I love bourbon, I love comparing blindly. However, you bring up a good point: comparing blindly certainly does disservice to subtle flavors. I've not had Statesman but love the other two. Don't have a dog in this fight for the proof, but maybe 1792 or Makers 46. With only 3 choices, they can be easy to guess. I could see the evil in Dillon's expressions.

    I love this new tournament format! Also, I'm always surprised by the hate that the Statesman gets. I sometimes wonder if it being a promo for the movie has held it back. Like, if it were marketed as a normal release (like 1910, 1920, etc), it would have been better received.

    • @Walking_Ears
      @Walking_Ears 2 года назад +2

      Yeah that's a good point. Maybe being affiliated with the movie's marketing makes it feel a bit too much like a "celebrity" release

    • @runstreetwise
      @runstreetwise 2 года назад +1

      @@Walking_Ears That's what I'm thinking as well. Whenever I've had this blind, or poured this for others without telling them what it was, they've always enjoyed it (and so have I over other bourbons). Not saying it's the most amazing bourbon ever, but the way I see others bash it you'd think it's bottom of the barrel.

    Great idea, and also a fun idea to allow barrel picks that you wouldn't review in the ultimate spirits competition. Your tasting notes here lined up well with each other, can tell you've been getting lots of practice doing blind tastings lately. It's a good idea to do this specifically with bourbon too, like with scotch it would be harder to decide "favorites" if comparing peated vs unpeated, etc

    A lot of folks have mentioned Woodford DO and OF 1920, but I'd also recommend Tincup 10-year. Maybe add a light heavyweight category (110-119 proof) as well because I'm not sure how many 100-proofers will compete well with the ones with proofs in the high teens.

    Before I get to the taste test, I just wanted to say that my only issue with this first installment is that Eagle Rare is far too rare (at least it is here in the Orlando area). I've only ever seen 1 bottle in a store in my 10-ish years of exploring bourbon. That said, I don't think it stands a chance, as in my very limited 1 bottle experience with it, Eagle Rare is far too delicate to stand out in a blind taste test. I didn't even like my bottle until I was about halfway through it, when the flavors finally started to come out (no idea if it was time or air space in the bottle or both that caused it).

    • @RebeccaPaige
      @RebeccaPaige 2 года назад +1

      Just moved from Northern TN where up until recently you could find Eagle Rare at MSRP quite regularly. Now you're looking at paying around $40-$45 for a 750 and $20 for a 375.
      Unfortunately now that I'm in Louisville, everything here is pretty much priced at secondary. I've actually seen ER 750 at like $120 and a 375 of it priced at $80.

    If you blind 3 things that you have had and know before hand u will have a real hard time not being biased and knowing them.
    Suggestion (i know it becomes complicated)- give ur bottle to a fourth person and have them blind the 3. Reveal the 3 bottles after tasting and scoring. Then discuss. 🤷‍♂️

    we don't get alot of old forester in europe - i can only get the 86 (at 30), the 100 proof (at 60) and the statesman (at over 100)
    is it a 100 dollar/euro bottle or should i just keep buying other, more reasonably priced brands?

    • @CuriosityPublic

    I feel like you could not over your own bias, if you knew what bottles you were all bringing forward. It would be a more honest battle, if (like in Vegas) you all brown bagged it, and only relieved the bottles, after the fight. Your producer would need to pour and label, but it would be an honest representation of a "blind" fight. Keep up the great content and Cheers!
