      My Samick Greg Bennett LP is white on the back, but Marlboro on the front. Funny thing is, it's barely been used, with mouldy frets and gold stuff not-so-glamorous looking, but you can see that it's hardly been touched. I love it, though, and while cleaning frets was easy, i don't think it'll ever be white again. What sustain, though!

    HAS be the same people that made my Chibson. Replaced pickups and pots, replaced bridge, replaced tuners, took off the butcher job pickguard, leveled the frets. Now it's a neat Epiphone!!

      Solomon Williams,
      You got that right. As soon as I picked up my Chinese Epiphone LP100 at the pawn shop, I KNEW I had to have her. She was marked $99, but I talked em down to 90, put on a set of 1:18 Grovers and she plays better than ANY guitar, even the multi- thousand dollar jobs. If the frets were as crappy as this "Randy Rhoads" fiasco, the first owner did a masterful job of fixing them. I also copper-lined the cavities, replaced coax wiring, switch, pots and capacitor/resistor tone circuits. Next, I'm gonna upgrade to vintage pups, and for under $200, I'll have a much better LP than any Gibson made in China or Nashville.

      Not Gibson 2020. Currently have 3 and they are a massive step up in comparison with my mid-2000's models. Although nothing really wrong with my 1996, 2006, 2013 and 2017 models. Gibson to this day is still the least expensive made in the USA big brand guitar. No other brand can you buy one for under $1500 consistently.

    • @gameroftheyear1000
      @gameroftheyear1000 4 года назад

      @@wiseguy9202 Wayne Charvel and Grover Jackson would like a word with you. Just kidding, in all seriousness Gibson did take a massive decline in the mid to late 90’s, I’ve owned multiple early and mid 2000’s Les Paul’s and they weren’t very good instruments. Nothing has compared to my fathers 1970, 1987 and 1981 Les Paul customs which those are far superior instruments that are worth their price tags, especially compared to mine. Really anything after the 80’s for Gibson is sub par at best in my opinion, now granted I haven’t tried any 2020 Les Paul customs out, only a few standards and traditionals and they do feel slightly better than those before but I feel they still aren’t up to that punch Gibson once provided.

    Glad to see this vid. I have a Chibson Les Paul custom that looks almost just like this (not the same finish). The fret work is terrible and the nut looks exactly like the one you changed here. I already had some of the tools like a level and I have a basic understanding of working on one. I did throw in a set of good pickups. Thank you for demonstrating the nut replacement. I will do that along with a fret job. My nut looked exactly like that. I assumed they had filed or sawed the slots and just didn't deburr, but it could have been the strings filing it like you said. I was not aware of the frets lifting though., I will definitely look for that on mine.

      It can be done because I've done it. The money I spent on pickups tuners...bridge..and hardware was around 400. Plus I level the Frets myself plus intonation...far less than what I paid for my Gibson. 3000$.

    • @RozsaAmplificationLLC
      @RozsaAmplificationLLC 3 года назад

      @@calebproductions5970 It can be done, but becomes cost prohibitive! I just did one recently and instead of paying $10,000+ for a real Gibson Rhoads tribute guitar, got one from China. When I was done, I was in it $1,100! Still only a 10th of the cost, but the shortfalls after everything I did is that the neck profile is all wrong and thick as a baseball bat, so you'd have to do additional work to shave and repaint it to get it right and the Gibson logo and split diamond are not right if you know what to look for. Finally, they are VERY light weighing 8# 2oz when received and 8# 11oz when done and adding all of the new parts and bronze plates. If it were real, it would weight about 10# or more. I figured out part of the problem is the body is thinner, the body width as well as headstock are likewise smaller....soo, when you are all set and done, it will never be like a real Gibson and you're left with something with sub Quality, made and supported by China, and legally, you're not supposed to sell!!! Soo, except for very specific situations, really not worth it and my advice would be....do NOT buy from China!

    • @GenericSpace
      @GenericSpace 5 лет назад

      Because plywood is cheap and a thicker body appeals to the simple-minded concept, "bigger is better"
      Honestly, Les Pauls have always had "thicker bodies" whereas guitars such as the SG are significantly thinner.
      I have a 70's Epiphone ET-290, (Epiphone's answer to the SG back in those days) - and it's body is remarkably thin like an SG.
      The guitars that have a thicker body also tend to have stronger neck pockets.
      Personally, I'm incredibly apprehensive about any neck pocket that extends to being under the neck-pickup.

    How should a guitar be set up? Every company has a certain "set up" that is consistent. That's just the way they leave the factory. If you like the strings buzzing on your guitar playing open strings and the amp doesn't pick it up it's right for you. If you like acoustic action on an electric it's right for you.

  • @GiantBat
    @GiantBat 5 лет назад +1

    The cost of a setup will be the base price of the guitar. Better buy reputable brands with actual QC

    I had this exact yellow RR LP model from Ali Express on my bench a few weeks ago. I did a fret dressing, bone nut, Switchcraft jack and a good set-up and it was fine. They have 2-way rods, so you can get the neck to anywhere you need it to be. Pop in some decent pups, and it can be a decent player. It was definitely gigable, but shamefull to say the least.

      Buy a new Gibson and have it set up by a good luthier.

    Probably $250 or something including shipping. You'd probably not want to see the wood under the paint, but if anyone has ever tried to make a guitar from scratch, not bad for the price.
    if you can make a guitar from scratch, then you have a good chance of being able to make these things usable.
