- Fun 4 wheeling out on Fins & Things in Moab, Utah. Van Compass Stage 5 suspension equipped 4x4 Sprinter van. 35" Milestar MT tires on Black Rhino wheels. Custom Fox racing shocks and armor by Vancompass.com
This is the single best demonstration I've seen of the shortcomings of the Aluminess rear bumper. The departure angle is clearly a problem. If your build had a more progressive rear bumper design to preserve the original departure angle you look like you're be pretty unstoppable. Kudos for some of the best Sprinter 4x4 product testing I've ever seen. Keep it up!
Always nice to see a Sprinter overcoming serious challenges ! Inspiring nice job!
hi, i can't wait for a new video from you :-)
So rad seeing other people put their vans to use and actually taking them off-road !!!
I don’t need to go off road I am perfectly happy on the road! 😂
Extremely rare
Yes Yes
The under carriage looks do clean and smooth..
Nothing hanging.
I would like to see temperature readings on that transmission. It sure seems to be under geared for the rocks. You may as well put an Atlas gear box under it, and an air locker in the rear. Then it would be truly a beast without a couple of big shortcomings. What's another $5000 at this point?
Thanks Van Compass for posting this!! I'm planning on getting Stage 5 package along with the front sway bar disconnect kit, and a little extra lift in the back for more clearance for my onboard Gen. Good to see what it's capable of!!!
SWAY BAR DISCONNECT WHY? JUST CURIOUS
@@scottmartin4838 rear traction!
Dude! Amazon is RELENTLESS in getting your packages to you!! This is totally worth paying for a prime membership!! 😆
Pretty good for such a big vehicle. It sounds like it's way under geared.
Seems from what I can tell, most of this can be done in 2 wheel drive.
"Bumper test......yeahyah!"
Looks super stable! Will you get similar ride qualities out of Stage 4?
Michael Dorian Bach yes, the custom shocks create the stability.
This looks So cool I really want to get one of these! Just a question.o Obviously its heavy with camping gear and every, but it sounded like it was struggling a bit on the steep climbs. Do you think the engine is powerful enough? For taking on most off road area's?
The turbo lag is the main issue, but the torque is more than enough to overcome obstacles...besides theres always oetuning stage 1 tune that nets you another 80hp and 100lb ft torque
@@Krnnerdboy an OM642 cannot handle 80horses more in a Sprinter. Not without rebuilding the Pistons, oil Spray nozzles, oil cooler , intercooler and so on.
Besides that... Power means nothing without the right gearing. And the gearing got screwed by the massive tires.
I Wonder If this is a ZG3 optioned (Low range) Sprinter??
This is awesome! Thanks for posting. This clearly show how capable the factory 4x4 is. In my eyes no need to upgrade to the more expensive options from Iglhaut or Oberaigner, which have diff locks. Can you comment how how the MPG changes going from stock to the 35 tires?
We only lost 1 mpg jumping to 35s, other people see 2-3 mpg loss. Our van is built out lightly.
Those ARE stock tires and wheels, 275/70-17. Any size larger would mess up the road safety scanning electronics etc.
@@carexpritch "35" Milestar MT tires on Black Rhino wheels",
It seems that you were revving quite a bit on some of the obstacles. I assume the truck was in first gear, did you notice any transmission overheating? It seemed to be straining somewhat.
We did not have any overheating issues. The transfer case is only 1.6:1. The converter slips a bit going up steep trails.
@@VanCompass Thanks for the reply. I'm seriously considering purchasing a Sprinter 4X4.
@@sfcmathews32 - Do it!! I lucked out with my 2016 4x4 144" low top Sprinter. I contacted the fleet salesmen from all the SW United States to see if they had anyone back out on their order (because they're all built to order). I found a mostly stock cargo van, brand new, delivered to my house in a week rather than having to wait 18 months. Also - look into Europe. You can find used Mercedes Sprinters vanswith only 60K miles on them for pretty cheap.
What's your exhaust mod?
if it was a high roof, it might have flipped onto its side?
Probably not. The high roof does not add much more weight, just looks top heavy.
Hi, thanks for the vid. Is this a 144" wheelbase, sometimes the angle of the shots could be deceiving, just want to make sure, thanks again. Just debating for a 144 vs a 170 (space needed) but want to be able to go places as well.
It’s a 144 for sure, a 170 would have never made it.
What did u decided to go with 144 or 170?? How your experience like?
Was this in 4wd-Low? (Low Range?)
gm3sf yes, it’s only 1.6:1
What engine and what transmission? Was low range gear used?
apparently yes re low range.
I’ve taken my sprinter on rougher off road and faster that looked really easy
Brilliant vehicle
Cool video but what would be better a jeep or the van.
Cool shit man! What mods do you have?
it's all listed in the description...
Is this a stock Mercedes 4x4 platform or an aftermarket 4x4??? thnx
Mod list is in the description.
Is that a 170 2500?
144"
Just beginner !
