Non modified stock configuration. I always knew it was working cuz you'd see the T/G's car's wipers on high; for miles. LOL! You can't fix stupid

    I used to have a custom lowrider car with hydraulics. We used to joke that we should re-route the windshield sprayer to underneath one of the back rear tires. When I three-wheeled the car it kind of looked like a dog with it's rear leg in the air so if we had re-routed the windshield sprayer we could then lift the rear wheel and pee on cars whenever we ended up next to some jerk in traffic. When you told the story about emptying your grey tank it totally made me think of that. What you thought of is even worse though! We were just going to do it with water! LOL

    • @AdaptiveHumanity
      @AdaptiveHumanity  Год назад

      Engine was surprisingly good after the mods. Stock was kind of a slug. There was a plug to add in portable panels but you would never need them. 9 months full time and never plugged in. Current solar and a second dedicated 280amp alternator keeps everything full. We would love to do a bus! If you ever want one build let us know.

    Awesome an build! I’m considering buying a van and converting myself (I have a tight budget, so I’d start with an IKEA build and upgrade it each year. I do have one question though….since when is Teak not considered wood?

    • @AdaptiveHumanity
      @AdaptiveHumanity  Год назад +1

      Thanks! As far as teak it is actually not part of the build they are a plastic backed snap tile just to elevate the shower floor. You just lift them out and the shower pan is under it. The actual build had zero wood. All aluminum, king starboard, carbon fiber and coosa. If you do your build reach out to us at adaptive overland engineering we socialize in diy stuff. We actually build custom cabinets that are flat shipped to you for assembly. way better then ikea and around the same price. We actually have you make a template for your walls and we cut the cabins to fit perfect.

    I’m curious about the fire prevention feature that was described as following wherever the electrical wires went. I had a fire in my RV that started from a lithium power pack I left on the dash in front of the driver section. I really don’t know how long it had been burning before we discovered the fire but a lot of the dash in front of the driver compartment was smoldering. I first used a chemical fire extinguisher about the same size as shown in your video and then used a garden hose to finish putting out the fire before the fire trucks arrived. I’m presuming that what you have in your setup is also a chemical fire extinguisher. What I discovered is the chemical composition in the extinguisher was very corrosive, especially to metal surfaces, and anything it got in contact with was impossible to clean or take off. What I’m implying is that while it may save lives, it’s call to put out the start of a fire could very well total the vehicle as the whole electrical system would have to be removed and replaced. I guess the best is to careful and never have a fire in your RV.

      Our auto fire supresor covered our house electrical not vehicle. If you did have to replace anything it would be the house system and house batteries. We used eldie fire balls for automotive in the engine bay and dash. But in the end I guess it’s better to have a totaled rv and be alive and well to make the insurance claim. Glad you made it out ok and everyone was safe.

    Wow now that's a well thought out and executed build. It seems like you would consider building an overlanding rig like this for folks interested in overlanding. I saw some price points of anywhere between 100 to 300k. Does that include the sprinter van or is that price point just for the conversion and upgrades? Where are you based out of?

      Actually we bought 2-m1078 1-m1083(this one is our new rig) and a kodiak 4x4. So we are building 4 and keeping 1. Ugh life will be a bit stressful but so worth it. If you know anyone in the market for a beast overlander send them out way!

      @@AdaptiveHumanity Very nice. Will do, if I hear of someone looking for one. By the way do you have price points in mind?
      We started off with our e450 uhaul build/conversion at $30k but have adjusted and changed to a F650-F750 chassis and are up to a 60k-80k build cost. Still a lot better than buying a traditional rv or camper that has a inflated sale price and questionable build quality.

      @@AdaptiveHumanity very reasonable looking at your van as a measure of your build quality. I was looking on Gov planet for a 1078 but the wife said it was too overkill for a camper rig to go mostly surfing. 😆 🤣
