Had a hard crash a few weeks ago resulting in Stage 3 shoulder separation and a couple broken ribs. Thought my season was toast. First week was rough, didn't get on the bike, couldn't sleep, uncomfortable all the time. Rested, upped my protein intake and things have come along. I was able to race at Ned Gravel last weekend and other than the Switzerland trail section I had no pain. Sleep is still rough and the shoulder can't do a lot of things yet, but riding actually feels pretty good.

I broke my collarbone 1.5 years ago and had a lot of the same thoughts. I actually posted a RUclips video about it as well.
Regarding mindset and getting back into racing, I saw someone at the hospital who was t-boned while driving, and he was more messed up than I was. Life happens, shit happens, and cycling or racing isn't immune from that. But it's also not a reason to stop doing it.
