    I have lived with the Hanford nuclear reactor in my backyard for 58 years. The schools used to tell us to crawl under our desk if there was an explosion. My dad told me something different. He said go outside and watch the show. You are going to die so why make it a long radiation death and painful. He was a very pragmatic man. We knew we would go to heaven so there really wasn’t much fear.

    • @joecool2810

      Sounds grim. I live within an hour’s drive of Hanford, and I used to have a lot of fear of Nukes and stuff. Now though, I don’t fear it; I learn as much as I can about that kind of stuff and what we use to stop it. For that I want to thank our Air Defenders in Alaska. Realistically, our only chance to stop the scene we watched unfold here. I no longer live in fear, I know I’m safe and I’m going to have to live with the fact that I won’t likely know when it’s my time so why worry about it.

    It’s like growing up in the 80s. By then, nuclear weapons were so powerful that schools no longer bothered with duck and cover drills and the Civil Defense fallout shelters were used for storage as there was no use going down there. The only saving grace, we were told, was that if you lived near a first strike target you could hope to be vaporized quickly.

    • @MargYork
      @MargYork 2 месяца назад +1

      The duck and cover drills stopped in early 1963. There were none by the time i got to 1st grade.

    In real life those people would’ve heard it and/or gotten blinded, their internal organs would’ve gotten turned into juice as soon as the shockwave hit if they hadn’t already been reduced to a crisper at that point, never the less, still my favorite intro to a series/movie

      It's not a show about surviving nukes. They aren't going to spend a whole episode divesting into that. The show is about surviving 279 years after the nukes, and the struggles that come with that. That is every Fallout game pal.
