Hi. Hope this finds you well. I am not a DIY guy at all...but am interested in learning bits now that i am semi-retiring from my photography job at the age of 66-love photography passionately so wont totally retire lol . I have to have a bath resealed in a property that my wife rents out and am going to attempt to remove the old seal before a friend Tim (a professional tradesman who is busy but has been very kind) has kindly offered to help reseal the bath tub and has asked me to help him with time and try and get the old stuff off. Your video has been very helpful and has encouraged me to try out some DIY projects...fingers crossed. Thank you very much. Have a lovely Christmas:). Stay safe and blessed.
Very helpful video😊The no-nonsense sealant remover is $27 plus tax and shipping in US😮 1. Use a cutter to cut sealant with an angle 2. Use a sealant tool with plastic corner tool to remove sealant 3. Use little broom and dust pan to remove sealant 4. Use an old clean damp rag to clean up sealant. Keep surface dry 5. Put sealant remover on any left behind sealant(avoid chrome) 6. Wait for 30 minutes 7. Use plastic corner scrubbing and flat tool to remove sealant 8. Remove debris with damp rag 9. Soap a clean dry rag with white spirit 10. Wipe where the old sealant was 11. Wipe finger on where old sealant was. It should be nice and smooth if not, use white spirit soaked rag on again
No if this would be an american, he would advise to buy weird chemicals we dont even have in Europe and then to mix the chemicals together and sht like that. You know the DIY videos of americans😂
I think it's to cut through sealant breaking the bond. It can also be used carefully to remove sealant off a flat surface but careful you don't scratch anything if you're working on ceramic or plastic.
I'm sure it would be ok but maybe test it on a small bit of the floor out of site in case it causes any damage. On your head be it!! Thanks for watching.
Would you say the silicone remover is suitable for removing sealant on mdf skirting boards/vinyl flooring? I need to remove it in order to repair some damage to the skirting and I’m wondering if it will soak in and cause the filler/primer/paint not to adhere.
You can apply silicone over old silicone but it may case it not to look so good, and if any mould is left below it may break through into the new sealant. Best of luck 👍
I guess it depends on the bath. For me this job was a total PITA, many hours of getting lots of little stubborn bits of sealant out, especially difficult behind the taps.
Hello, could you please let me know where to get that sealant remover you showed in your video? I looked at some stores and Amazon, but could not find it. Thanks!
I wish everyone could do this job like this. I had already a few people around my house to do the silicone, but no one could do a decent job. I end up changing the silicone every year in my shower. That is the reason l am watching this video, l want to learn to do this job by myself, otherwise waste of money and time.
Unfortunately silicone never stays clean as long as they say on the tube. With families using showers and baths multiple times a day, air tight regulations, modern windows with tight seals etc, houses are full of moisture and often with poor ventilation. Add to that modern body wash products high in nutrients to feed the bacteria, and you end up with regular bouts of mould. So it's well worth learning this and keeping on top of it every few years in my opinion. Hope it helped 👍
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE I also have the window slightly opened whenever I use the shower or simple wash over the sink. After I finish then I open the window WIDE open and the windows downstairs to create an air current. I never have any damp or mould issues in my bathroom!
I could only find unibond sealant remover and can confirm it’s absolutely rubbish, so I’ve ordered the no nonsense brand £9.99 off Amazon - but it’s the only place I can source it! Hoping it does the job (the builders/plumbers whoever did the sealant has used about 10mm worth of it around the whole bath tub 😢)
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE I'm glad you read my comment. I spent te and money with dermatologists and expensive creams and my skin is not as good as it was before.
I mean isn't this obvious. If it melts silicone in 15mins it will eat up the skin also. I bought silicone remover that you have to wait 2-24 hours. And never used it as i don't like to use chemicals. Also I think not all silicone need to be removed as silicone binds to silicone. Only visible silicone need to be removed
Wd40 will help remove it, but it's very hard to clean off completely later, and if any residue is left it can cause your new sealant not to bond. Hope that helps.
Strange how some vids show how to do this in 2 mins without using propitiatory products. I was gratified to be instructed how to dip a paint brush into liquid. EXTREMELY VERBOSE.
WD40 works but it's very hard to remove, and if any residue is left it can remove the new sealant so I don't use it. For the small cost of the sealant remover, I'd stick with that. Thanks for watching.
Biggest pain in the arse getting this shit off. There must be some chemical somewhere that works better than that stuff. I used to use a round rubber type disc fitted in a drill in the body motor trade that removed badge tape, trim tape and coachline tape, I wonder if that would work.
I didn’t use the product it took me 5 hours 😩😩 and I used a plastic tool from the kitchen and a knive to remove it. The person that lived here made an ugly thick irregular layer of silicone
Mate speak to someone who does this for a living. All you need it a knife and a stanley glass scraper. Silicone remover is a gimmic and is for people who have no idea and is basically a rip off. Use a thin chisel behind the taps. There is 1 right way to do it and it's not the way you have shown. Any Mastic Man or Sealant Applicator Specialist would remove that sealant in 10 minutes.
I'd rather someone didn't use a knife on my plastic bath. That's not to say it can't be done but in my experience, any trades person that could remove that in 10 minutes will damage the bath. No one will care about your house as much as you sadly and as speed was not the objective of this video then I still think it's a good way for a novice to complete the task properly without damage. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks
Thanks for the support David!
I feel more confident having watched this extremely clear demonstration of how to remove old sealant. Thank you so much.
You are very welcome
👍Good and realistic tips. I like how you don't sugar-coat the amount of work such a job entails. Very helpful.
Brilliant. I am not a regular DIYer. This and the Pouse on the House video on applying sealant helped me do a job I am really proud of.
Great to hear, good work and thanks for watching 👍

Thanks for not being American. Your sealant game is on point! Regards from Chester, England.
Are the Americans world leaders on sealant removal? I'm just helping with the diversity quota! 😂 Glad to help, thanks for watching 👍

Fabulous video. Really well explained and you've probably just saved me hours of messing about, doing the job incorrectly. Many thanks
You're welcome!
great video as always, you are a legend 😀
Very helpful. I'm attempting my first DIY today and the mouldy sealant needs replacing.
Hope it went well!
Another use for old pants, brilliant! I was brought up in a household where they were only good as dusters 😂 great video thank you
Always reuse before you recycle! Thanks for watching.
Haha, my mother used to use her old knickers as dusters.
Very helpful - did this today with success, so thank you!

Such a helpful video. I’ve just bought the tool you used and am going to do the job tomorrow. Fingers crossed 🤞it’ll go well!
How did it go?
I’m giving you a 10 out of 10 for the instructions, and another 10 for having normal men’s arms.

Do you know what the blade is for on the underside of the scraper is for ?

Any suggestions for a decent sealant? Thanks for the video, straight forward, clear, to the point! 👌🏼
Sorry for late reply, but the one in the video is my preferred sealant.
Good video. Very helpful thank you 👍

Really excellent video with concise, intelligent, insightful content that is really well presented with great demonstrative action. Great stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The worst part of having to re-silicon is the prep work. Very laborious and time consuming but worth it in the end for a decent finish.
Very true. Thanks for watching!
I spend about 5 hours removing old and bad done silicon in my new apartment bathroom 😩
Gonna tackle replacing the sealant in my shower enclosure this week after putting it off for years, your video has been very helpful

do you have to remove all old silicone sealant before applying new bead or can you leave a small residual amount?
You can apply silicone over old silicone but it may case it not to look so good, and if any mould is left below it may break through into the new sealant. Best of luck 👍
I guess it depends on the bath. For me this job was a total PITA, many hours of getting lots of little stubborn bits of sealant out, especially difficult behind the taps.
So if they did a peel and stick before on the surround, do you have to scrape all that off too?
You need everything removed if your going to do a nice new fresh bead of sealant.
Always great tutorial videos.
Thanks

Without a doubt! Thanks for watching.
Hi.. will applying white spirit allow the new silicone to bond with the bath and the tiles or will it prevent it from doing so. Please advise..
Should be fine as long as you wipe away the residue.

Soft hands brother
how do I remove silcone sealant from drywall
It's very difficult without damaging the drywall assuming it's stuck directly to it?
What a beautiful job! I need to do that around my bathtub... Now I just need somebody's pants
I have plenty of spare pants but the cost of postage it'd be cheaper to buy a new pair! Best of luck with it.
Why not use wd40 or dryer before removing?
