In this video I will show you how to make a super simple...and accurate...box joint jig...or modify your own...to make beautiful Kumiko panels to help decorate your projects.
Thank you...I hope that you end up making something similar...I feel like it is one of those things that will evolve for the better as more people try it and add their own touches and ideas.
Thank you, Richard...I think you could come up with some amazing projects involving kumiko...also, where does one go about getting shoji paper? I would like to make a lantern with kumiko panels.
Nicely done, new subscriber. I love the delicate accuracy of your work & kumiko. Without seeing you other videos, I assume the strips need to be same thickness as the pitch of kumiko notches?
Hi Bob...I didn't include any measures in the video. The individual slots will need to be sized for your saw blade. Beyond that I believe you could make the sled and fence any size that suits you and whatever scraps of wood you've got about to make the jig. This one has proven to be more handy for me than many others...I believe it is worth a build. Thanks for watching.
Hi Lexi! We are doing okay...hope you are too...I miss seeing you guys every day though...hope we get back to school soon. Take care of yourself and your family...and MAKE STUFF!
That is a 1/8" aluminum stock that I picked up at Home Depot I think. The blade that I was using was also a 1/8" cut. You will probably want to use calipers to measure out to see if they are the same. You can sand aluminum pretty easy if you need to to make it thinner if you need. You can also add a layer of tape to make it thicker if you need. You can also adjust the fit of the fingers the same way if necessary to get the joint to fit as tight or as loose as you want.
welcome to the kumiko club. say goodbye to your social life 😂
That's funny!
Thank you, Alberto...perhaps I should build a doghouse next...sounds like I’m going to be in it!
@greyhaze ind Haha... :-)
There's a woodworking instructable contest going right now, this would be a good piece.
Thanks man, I’ll have to look into that...can it be a video or is Instructables all pictures?
@@StanCrafted You need pictures for every step, but you can post the video at the top of the instructable to get the views.
Ha! Watched these in reverse order. Still fun to watch the building of the jig. Simple yet highly functional. Well done!
Thank you!
I never would have thought to use an box joint jig for kumiko. Great idea!
Thanks Brent! That’s an idea that just came to me as I was trying to figure out how to make some panels for an upcoming project.
I am pretty sure you can still buy handbook with all details you need on woodprix.
Thanks for the tip...sorry for the slow response...this was somehow put into a likely spam area on my RUclips channel content...
Hi my friend. I learned a great video again. I love the tutorial videos. you are a good teacher.
Thank you so much, my friend...I learn a lot from you as well 😊
This is a very specific hobby it seems! So intriguing to watch!
Well...thanks again! :-)
Love this! Great video and thanks for sharing. I may tackle some kumiko in the future. 🙌🏻
Thank you, Kirstie! Definitely give it a go...I've got a couple of project coming up that will use kumiko patterns.
Great video Stan. Simple but precise! 👍
Thanks! I think it will get the job done!
Great video here mate! Really well filmed and explained, thanks for sharing! keep up the good work 👍
Thanks so much...I appreciate it!
Not sure if I'd ever have the patience fir this kumiko but I certainly enjoyed watching this! Thanks Stan, stay healthy!
Hi Mark, I thought the same thing until I made this jig...it’s nearly foolproof!
@@StanCrafted Nearly foolproof? That sounds like a challenge!
Great job on the jig!
Thanks so much!
I like this Stan 😊 This jig has a lot of scope for projects. I'll bookmark this for a later time 😊 ॐ

So simple yet so briiiant Stan. Nicely Done
Thank you, Shaun! It's a pretty easy jig, really. I'm going to see about doing another video with some different patterns soon.
Good idea
Thank you!
I have a large roll of shoji paper that would work real well with what can be made from such a jig. It is on my list of ds's for sure! Thank you!!!
Thank you, Richard...I think you could come up with some amazing projects involving kumiko...also, where does one go about getting shoji paper? I would like to make a lantern with kumiko panels.
@greyhaze ind Thank you...I will check it out.
Very good. Subscribed!
Thank you!

You are correct, sir. I cut a kerf first...then size the strips to match...thank you!
Nice love this and love kumiko too. Great work Stan, enjoyed it.
Oh and I have seen those squares before sir, I think someone made them.
Thanks, Harki I appreciate it...where did you see the squares? I'd like to get some more ideas to try.
StanCrafted lol I was talking about those fancy carpenter squares you were using to check for 90
Haha...I thought you meant the Kumiko squares 😂
Very good 👍 Have a nice day
Thank you so much!
That looks cool. Are you going to make an Instructable for that?
Thank you, Andy. To be honest I’ve never done an Instructable and would be sure how. Perhaps it’s time that I learned!
@@StanCrafted This could be a good time to learn.
BRAVO .. 16
Thank you!
Did i somehow miss the measurements for the various parts of the jig?

Hi Mr. Mercer I hope you are doing well since the quarantine and other stuff

@greyhaze ind Oh...I am so sorry to hear about your family being sick...I truly hope that they all recover as soon as possible! Take care!
Where did you get that aluminum strip that's exactly the same width as your blade?

I wish I could understand what you are doing....
I will try to answer any questions you might have about what is unclear...just let me know!

Thank you...I'm a real novice but I'm following some people who have really elevated this to its true art form...fascinating to watch them.
