- Set at the Caltech 2007 Winter Competition at the Exploratorium on January 13. Filmed by Ramiro Garron.
You can find my reconstruction of the solve here: archive.garron.us/solves/2007/...
His brother Chris Dzoan set a faster single time at the US Open 2007:

The quality of this video is unbeatable. Thank you so much, Lucas! Congratulations, Dan!

It's difficult to believe cubing has come so far in just one and a half decades.
Seriously. I remember thinking how fast this was and how fast his fingers were moving. Now it legitimately seems like a beginner, but this was legitimately top of the world speed.
Much better quality than that other video. Good job, Dan!
this gives me such goose bumps.
Good looks, Dan Dzoan!
I also like how he uses his right hand to solve it. Most right-handers use the left hand to solve the cube one-handed.
Well, if you watch the person standing behind him while he's solving it, you can see that the video was not sped up at all. Amazing.
Right-handers use the left hand for OH solves because it allows them to do U and R moves much more easily than with the right. You may notice that most people who solve with the right use U and L moves instead.
this is just mindblowing...
awesome solve :)
The cubes they use are very well lubricated
omg that was hella sick!!!! one day im ganna be able to do that!!! i hope.... GREAT JOB DUDE YOUR HELLA FAST!!!
Wow!! I adore you already. good job. : )
amazing
Official rules say that he has 10 seconds to look at it before he starts. That's why when you watch competitions, they pick it up, put it down, and pick it up again to start.
Really nice solve. Way faster than I can even do it with two hands. My best is 36 seconds (videos in profile).
sorprendente, ojalá suban un video de esos en camara lenta
that looks tight
awesome!~
Wow, the world record just got beat again? It's happening quite often now.
Yes, you can finds it from the link in the description.
@wismer1987 and the one in mexico city was beaten as well. Actually now Dan is 12th.
this video is a year old :P
in the future we will have 1 handed solves in under 10 seconds O.O...scary(its already up to 14 seconds)
Hell yeah! that`s why I stand up for my people.
Wow.
One handed solving in 17 seconds?
Jesus.
soo... ya... dan has just broken the world recorddd
great job i cant do it with two hands and with it hardly scrambled. brilliant job well done
no, i noticed clockwise, counterclockwise, and double turns. it happens a ittle fast so it may be a bit difficult to notice. but it is a worls record after all
that waz sick
17 years….simpler times and records weren’t absolutely crazy
thats unreal
i love when he yells out "YES!!!!" at the end
wow!!that reaLLy amAze me!!its oNLy 17seC?wow!!
i LOve u!!
i'd like to see you solve the exact rubix cube with one hand and see how you do
thats how i even heard of this guy.
Guy says "I"m the fastest Rubik solver", other guy says "I can do it with one hand"
that case happens to me all the time. however i do the Sune and T-perm as my fastest oll+pll at like
dzoan is a genius
I love that reaction! YEEEEEAH!
No, not to solve it. But to do it at high speeds like this you DO have to do quite the thinking, this takes an incredible amount of foresight.
Dang dawg
THATS BAD-ASS
lol. its the new model they brought out. That one was the "T-10 Rubik" series model. pretty cool innit. Naaa. this dude is seriously intense. gud going
He's got good hands, ladies.
damn, that stumble near the end cost him some milliseconds. but wow
You mean a huge 1-second lockup?
It wasn't. He just had an easy cross, was very careful at the beginning of F2L, and had a nice finish. See the reconstruction I added to the description.
I read that it was 10, but you are probably correct. I can't say with any certainty, being not a speed cuber.
yea...general onehanded style is index and pinky to allow use of two adjacent layers. its an adjustment for a kinda one handed trigger.
also...panda shirt!
that shit was tight!!!!
nice
This guy is clearly a terminator who has infiltrated a Rubik's Cube competition,
we are all going to die at the hands of Rubik's Cube solving killer bots,
oh well shit happens....
WOW!
his like 10 fingers is like 10 hands!! crazy!
this guy is in the new pork and beans video.
i have one theory, we didn't see the clock while he was doing it, and i find it suspicious that his hand was moving so fast
sweet time, and he got stuck near end too.
at 20 sec. he got a very nice case
your typing makes small children weep
How much practice does it take to be that good
whoa, that's odd, it seems like he only rotated each face in one direction but never in the opposite, and he never seem to have done a face squared move.
CH-YEAH =]
peace on you!
ppl say i can solve it fast using 2 hands but damn
How do you solve a cube that fast with only one hand?
Wow,
those Sky-net terminators are look really human these days....
wow
Youre right, im Asian too, im also trying, but i never get to solve one, i can only do the white side and then im stuck..
that dude was awesome...
Go everyone, except jeric7almnu ^^..
i can do it with 2 hands in less than a minute, but this is crazy!!!
It doesn't matter really, but it may affect how you learn your algorithms. If you're left handed, you may prefer the ones which have lots of L moves, but most people use the right-handed ones anyway because that's what you're typically going to find on the Internet unless you're smart enough to make your own mirror algorithms to them.
HOLY SHIt
The guy probably learned to use one hand so he could fend off all that poon-tang with the other.
i thot they werent allowed to look at the cube before the timer begins.
does anyone knows the scramble?
Haha, now this isn't the 3x3 one handed world record. Sadly there's no video of it :(. It was by Thibaut Jacquinot, 15.81 seconds. In the Murcia Open 2007, that was on Aug 9 of this year. Murcia is in Spain.
can anyone help me?...where can i buy 3x3x3 eastsheen cubes here in philippines...coz the stickers of rubik's sucks a lot
i heard his original name was dan doan.
i know his cousin
he goes to my school
me too
!
correction! a u perm, not an u perm
:D, w00t I need more material for a comment than ust a smiley D:
D= make a video plz
what?! 3 second? with that throwing method 3 sencond?! that's too looong!
ok its 2007 can someone please tell me wat the former world record 3 times 3 2 hand cube is?!
(epic voice) YEAHHHH!!!!!
It was fast for one hand, but it looks like he was a little lucky with the scramble. Either that or he has some insane method, but I don't think there is on that moves the cube so few times.
wow. I cant even solve it with two hands
a few hours before? don't you mean after?
Actually, they have a maximum of 15 seconds to look at it first.
if he didnt get caught up in the last 2 turns of this solve he could of gotten 7.8 seconds.
yes. DirectorCM's method
woo
no -if it was after, he would have breaked the world record and would hold it for a while, but he didnt. the record was broked and nobody was informed about the new world record(the one in mexiko city) (sorry for bad english)
sune, but wat perm?
with two look OLL ?
next ya know they will try set record with there toes doing it
google "Thibaut Jacquinot"
9.86 seconds 2 hands...
15.81 seconds 1 hand...
very hard to beat...
actually the record is less than 8 seconds! beaten on past july
go bears!
after the green orange piece he could had a oll skip if he would put in one later. i mean if the pair is in front of you and then open the slot the oll is skiped.that would have save him 4 seconds!!!
Wow o_o
PLL and OLL was fish and 3-edge-cycle
also it just occurred to me. People are beating my 2 handed record with 1 hand XD.
my record 17 seconds
world record 14 seconds...
I never spent more than 5 minutes messing with one. Why would a right hander use his left hand ?
