Kirk was a big part of the show's animation and influence to the show, and John has a lot of daddy issues! It's a problem! I feel bad for him in his youth, it must've been hard for him. He's so fixated on abusive anger from men. It really screwed him up. The stories he tells from his childhood confirm this. He's a very angry, depressed (he must have some form of depression because he has been through a lot of trauma from his own father and I could assume it's part of the reason why he's such a darn perfectionist on his cartoons because he wants to have control over everything/everyone around him and he chooses to repress it, then it builds up and he ends up looking like an explosive mess of a man. Nothing but anger and spite) person. It's sad because that's how he treated his girlfriends. The guy is scummy but I do feel bad for him in that regard.

Do I think that John K is an abusive asshole? Yes.
There's no way you can excuse his actions in that regard. What I also think on the other end is that in spite of that he did leave his mark on the animation industry and the overall history of the art form.
So yes, there are negatives that affect his reputation. But there were some positives that came out of it as a whole. The moral of the whole tragedy behind him is that while great art comes from the pain of an individual it is also as Robin Byrd put it, You don't have to inflict pain onto others to bring out the best of someone's talent which is essentially what people need to learn from here.

i personally think john expresses how his trauma affects him all the time. from some of the stories he's told, its not hard to assume john never felt manly enough for his father. john is always mentioning how manly he is, even in a joking manner, like in that clip where he joked about how spumco makes "cartoons for men" and the camera pans over to a woman, subtly joking about his insecurities. another thing ive noticed is how he kind of creates this idealized father in his head of who he wished raised him. like when he posted on his blog talking about how his father was never supportive of his animation career. in the episode of ren and stimpy about the kid named anthony, the dad in that episode is clearly inspired by john's dad with the horrifying anger and barely suppressed emotions. where he diverges from his real dad, though, is the emotional vulnerability and love he clearly shows for his son in the episode. he's supportive of anthonys love for cartoons and genuinely wants to see him continue with that dream of meeting his heroes. another instance of this projection from john (imo) is when he posted that father's day drawing on his blog. its pretty much just a drawing of the dad from the anthony episode, but the dad is wearing a shirt with tweety bird on it. kinda weird. this might be a stretch but i feel like when john wrote about how he showed his dad the anthony cartoon it might have been like a subconscious plead for his dad to see what john wanted from him all along: acceptance and support. or it could've been a subconscious plead for his dad to see how he treated him when john was a kid. like saying "look dad, look how scary i drew you, look how scared ren and stimpy are, this is what you did to me."

I'm the only one who think Robin is lying? Something is not right here.. , the girl had a huge trauma because of John, that's why she wanted to cancel the restart of the show a few years ago and now she was able to work as a creative consultant for the new reboot that she wanted to cancel a few years ago ? Don't you guys feel that something stinks here?
I don't believe Robin, this was planned in advance, but I don't understand why she lied and why she wanted to cancel the reboot if she is now working for the reboot !
Don't get me wrong we know what kind of person John is, but I don't believe Robin either! Remember how much did Robin insist that young girls should be protected from this show and Ren and Stimpy and now she's working on the reboot? What a big liar she really is!

People in this industry do anything for money, it's not shocking to me. I don't think she lied but more so lost any morality once she saw how much the pay would be.

@@gingeralice3858 I think she lied Nobody forced Robin to live with him and put up with him in the first place , we lived in different time , then no one had hysterics because of age differences in the past. Robin's parents also have a lot of responsibility not just john , even Robin's parents agreed that an older man is dating their own daughter in the 90s, many older celebrity's had 16-year-old girlfriends, why are we crying now when the movie stars used to have unlimited dates with younger ones..

Surely everybodys parents are the same - John is just telling (possibly "over-telling/selling") it from his point of view. Everybody gets told off, always and forever.
I think that wimpy internet moaning idjits simply turn all this stuff into something it's not - make it more dramatic, so they can be more justified and "outraged" at John K... read nearly every comment on this video alone to see what I'm speaking of.

That's the kinda shit abuser-apologists and fake "alpha males" say to justify their own coping with the world around them. Nothing you say makes sense.

Sure, everyone's parents may have been the same, but most of them didn't grow up with such behavior like John K. Even before the internet became such a big thing, people who knew John K or worked with were outraged at him for his behavior. You can search up multiple official sources of John K being a terrible person towards others even before his allegations of sexual assault were confirmed.

not sure about you guys but my father's face never twisted and boiled with barely concealed rage when he was chewing me out. my dad would tell me what i did wrong, why it was wrong, and that i shouldn't do it in the future. i think people like you are just sensitive about having their abusive parents be called out and call us "wimpy" because you're jealous our parents didnt abuse us.
