I have come to find that MOST of the best movies of all time, like this one, make you cry ... And address the dark soul of the night.... And redemption.
I think maybe we all need a good cry, it's healing, and to really slow down and think about the things in life that really matter....
That's were we get hit in the FEELS.
      Very much enjoyed this video
I have loved this movie since I saw it in the theater, and MAYBE one day I'll get through it without shedding tears of joy and sadness.
      Truly a phenomenal movie.

Jenny is one of the realest depictions of someone wrestling with childhood trauma that I've ever seen in movies. Something I definitely missed as a kid watching this but appreciate more the older I get.

So many reactors seen to miss the part when Forrest's says that her father is always kissing and touching Jenny and her sisters, they get so angry at her for constantly leaving and choosing abusive men which usually what victims of child abuse do. I always thought she kept leaving Forrest because she thought she would hurt him more if she stayed.

Gary Sinise - who played Lt Dan - developed such a close bond with wounded vets after the release of the movie that he now runs one of the biggest vet charities in the US - providing handicapped accessible homes to wounded vets and many other services for vets (and 1st responders). His "Lt Dan Band" plays USO shows at US bases in war zones, etc. A film that begat a real world legacy. The film does a great job showing the effects of childhood trauma and abuse on Jenny and how to overcome great odds when coming from a good home / upbringing like Forrest. Jenny being abused by her dad leads her to feel undeserving of real love and to make horrid choices in men and in life. And the film ends up being a genuine meditation on destiny vs chance.

I've always found the parallel lives of Forrest and Jenny interesting - she was born with the advantages of body and mind, but in a terrible home life; Forrest was born with physical and mental disadvantages, but in a loving and supportive home. And it made all the difference in their lives.

Forrest Gump is a movie that breaks everyone. What a life he's lived. Great reaction bro
Your comment about always trying to put yourself in their shoes is so important in life. My boys are getting into their teen years, but since they were little and just starting school, whenever issues came up with classmates, bullies, etc.. I always reminded them to always ask themselves "where is that [anger/bullying/etc] coming from with that person?"
Kids that bully at school are often bullied at home.
Kids that try to make others feel stupid, are often made to feel that way at home.
Adults are no different. New issues, old issues never resolved, etc.
"When people throw negativity your way, remember that it's a reflection of them, not you." They've done well with that, especially the youngest.

Great reaction my friend! A fun fact I've always found interesting: Tom Hanks was obviously putting on an accent in this role, but the actor who played young Forrest actually talked like that. 1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune💲💲
    2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis.
    3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks.
    4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that.
    5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around.
    6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date.
    5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😋
    8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony..
    9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his.
    10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
    11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking.
    13. "Sometimes I guess there're just aren't enough rocks"
    14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis.
    15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that"
16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.
MORE Tom Hanks, do the GOAT. "The Green Mile".

If this movie doesn't break you, are you even human? (Kidding, everyone processes things differently, of course)...but whew, it's a DOOZY.
My heart breaks for so many characters in this movie...what a hard life Forrests mom had; a single mom with a special needs kid in an era when they would have been fully shunned. She kept her head high, did what she had to do, and raise an amazing man.
Forrest certainly had his challenges, but he had his mom always fighting in his corner and raising him up.
And Jenny....she never stood a chance, but she managed to sort her life out and then she died.
I've seen this movie so many times, and it still breaks me.
Tom Hanks' acting when Forrest meets his son....it splits my heart open every time without fail.
Also, you could do a Tom Hanks year and I'd be here for ALL of it, he's perfection in every role.

Ahoy Cap'n! I guess for this video, I'll call you Shrimp Boat Captain Tinny. Great video! Honestly, my favorite ones are the ones that make you cry. I love when a movie can evoke that kind of emotion. This is another movie I've seen more times than I can count. I was 12 when this came out and all the spots where they put Tom Hanks into old footage blew our minds back then! Gary Sinise got so into playing Lt. Dan and getting into the mindset of a vet that he started a band called The Lt. Dan Band and they play overseas for troops all the time still to this day and raise money and awareness to help vets home from war. You can't go wrong with Tom Hanks movies so I'm looking forward to seeing you watch more! "Big" would be a great one to add to the list. Cheers Homie!

Little bit of trivia. The day Tom had to do all the running on the football field he was really sick. He had a high fever, which if you look close you can see him sweating, his eyes are red, and he doesn’t look good. He sucked it up and did all the running they needed. He is just amazing!!

The older blonde girl on the school bus in the red and white dress is Tom's daughter Elizabeth.
Tom based Forrest's accent on the kid who played him as a kid.
Actor Kurt Russell did the voice of Elvis because he had already played Elvis in a movie.
There was going to be a sequel where Forrest was raising his son who had contracted aids from Jenny. He was going to meet Princess Diana and be near the Oklahoma bombing and other 90's events but the script showed up either the day before or days after 9/11 and Tom and the director decided the movie has no meaning anymore so did make it.

    "We all need Jenny!"
No. No, we really don't. Nobody needs someone who only cares about them, when they need something. Chances are, the boy wasn't even his.

Hey mate I disagree with you completely! Whilst I do understand your point of view, I don't think it's true. You say she only cares about herself, but she spent so much of her life with Forrest even though she got nothing out of it other than his friendship. NOBODY is perfect and you can't decide what you want and don't want from someone. You get it all. The good and the bad. It isn't so one dimensional as you make it out to be. And as far as the child goes, if he raises that kid, gives him all his love and guidance, biological or not he IS that kid's dad. Period. 🙂
