  • Austin, Texas, is always at the top of the list when it comes to the coolest cities in America. It's got the food, it's got the live music, it's got the horribly hot summers. But what about the mountain biking?

    I'm not a rider but I've been running all the trails in and around Deception for the past 6 years. I try to do my part by bringing a group of about a dozen volunteers once a year and we do a deep clean of everything we can. We usually split up and have a group hit Rim Job and another hit Picnic. When we are all done we meet at Mulligan and clean it as well. Luckily, Deception proper stays pretty clean. This past year we lugged out about 25 bags of trash. I organize this myself as part of my company's annual Volunteer Week.

    • @EricBurns1970
      @EricBurns1970 2 года назад

      Mike and I (the co-founders and OG builders of Deception) actually met while on a Cub Scout trash pick up along Brushy Creek in the Winter of 2012...and March 2012 we started building Deception. I wonder wear you are finding 25 bags of trash...definitely not on the single track - no way, maybe down at the BCRT, but the single track is never trashy, besides a few broken reflectors, a handful of broken items (Crank Bros egg beaters, LOL), occasional bottle, but the MTB community does a good job policing the trails.

    • @ericjenkins2737
      @ericjenkins2737 2 года назад

      @@EricBurns1970 The worst year was about 5 years ago. I'm the one who lugged out several tires, a recliner, decomposed tent and what looked like the rotted remnants from someone who had camped there along the east edge of Mulligan. This year also had the creek flood so there was TONS of debris along Picnic when the water receded. The entrance to Rim Job usually has a good bit of junk because people camp there. I'm in Colorado now and have migrated my volunteer trash pickup here along the trails next to my house...near the rad and well known Captain Jacks trail in the Springs.

To me what makes Austin trails unique are the miles of trails, of all skill levels, located in the city itself. I have noticed an odd correlation with the influx of Austin's popularity with my departure. 🤔

    Brian, this is the kind of progression that I have been wondering about for yours and the other Mtn bike YT’s. You beat them to the punch. This will catch fire with communities who are savvy enough to jump on board and have you come be an ambassador for them.

    That was great! I lived in Austin from 2000 to 2003 before moving to San Diego. That its also where I started mountain biking. Lance Armstrong was a HUGE inspiration for me and I am still a huge supporter of his. My favorite trails there were in Walnut Creek in North Austin. Every now and then I wish of going back to visit and riding those trails again. Great job on the video. Loved the look and feel of the whole thing.

    Brian, this was such a great video. I really enjoyed you showing us the bike shop and the food. For me, someone who doesn't drink much, the food is what makes a great trip even better! Thanks very much.

    This video is hands down my favorite! A little urban riding while setting up the next ride, a visit to Mellow Johnny's, and some really cool new angles while riding. And then the guests! Some great people to know!

    Brian... hands down , one of your greatest videos .... Yes its a MTB channel , but there is so much more to riding than just the ride . Every ride has a back story , and your letting us in on that story. You have a open no bullshit way with people , no time for snowflakes !!!! Thanks Man !!!!!!
