I’m mean sometimes the smiles are fake. I’d agree if you’d say it’s less common to see a fake smile in Vietnam though, I think Thai people has one of the most genuine people in the world in my opinion :)
I feel genuine warmth coming from thai people despite me being khmer(historical animosity between thai and khmer). I also feel the same kind of warmth from chinese people. But for some reason, I do not feel this warmth emanating from many vietnamese I've encountered and interacted with. They are ice cold... I thought the chinese would be quite similar to vietnamese due to the culture and mixed ancestry of many vietnamese with partial chinese ancestry. I was totally wrong. I don't know what is it about vietnamese in general? Not trying to sound negative but just my experience with them! If there is a group I could compare them to, it's Russians. Russians are similar in that they're not very expressive or animated or warm and friendly on first impression. But, I've known and interacted with several vietnamese for over a year and they are still not as warm as I'd expected someone to be after getting to know them even after 1 year.

We that live here in Vietnam often shake our head by listening to bloggers asking tourists about " facts". By traveling to a place and hanging our for a couple of days and expressing an opinion is a little silly. Food in Vietnam is known for its delicacy, safety and its viareity. Also compare to the US, there are no-one doing drugs, no needles littering the streets, no guns in sight nor anyone living in a tent or sleeping it off .. in full public view. Welcome to Vietnam were things are civilized and orderly and live comfortable for $1000/month.Cheers.
Hi James, the only facts I was interested in while making this videos are experiences, thoughts, and opinions. It can give people a good view on other peoples experiences are so I’m not only sharing my own experiences on this channel :) cheers
It's hard to understand what US politicians and law makers think. I find squatters' right in US is funny and allowing South American illegal immigrants in is a big mistake. Lots of stores owners decided to close or leave because of the lootings by these migrants. Homelessness has been a big problem for American citizens in recent years now let them in the simple question is how to house them, schooling the migrants' children, cloth them let alone health care for them. Jobs for them when most of them speak little English and low level of education.

Honestly beside the rip-off sea-food night market next to the dragon brigde I didn't noticed any street food vendors in DaNang, like i know them from Thailand. Maybe i stayed in the wrong area 🤔. The beachfront is clean and spacious
I was in Danang 10 days as a solo traveler and i wont go back there..nothing is bad but when comparing to Thailand or Philippines it´s just boring..most of the city are massage parlors and restaurants, as a family or as a couple it can be nice for sure but i honestly didn´t know what to do much in the evenings..dating in short term is almost impossible, sitting alone in bars and restaurants is not too much fun either after a while, i even enjoyed Malaysia much more, Vietnam just has a heaviness that other south east Asian countries dont habe imo
Thanks for sharing your experience 🙏 it seems like you had bad luck and were maybe spending time in the wrong areas 😅 but by the sounds of it you know your way around SE Asia and I’m sure you’ll be able to have a better time somewhere else 😊 have a good day
Nice to know current Vietnam is still very welcoming to all foreigners despite it being Communist-run from what I understand (unless that's no longer the case). Wonderful place from the video! Thank you Chai Travel! Keep vlogging!
No way I've been there for years and eat street food every day never been bad viteman is probably the best place on earth people amazing I'll travel the world but nothing comes close to it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When Americans and Europeans talk good sides of staying in South East Asia, it reflects on how unkind, expensive, and mundane life is at their home countries. Strange.
Nice work, lots of interviews, and many subtitle options. 🙂 However, I think a large "professional" microphone gives off a "serious interview" vibe and could make people apprehensive. I'd switch to a smaller mic, like many people use, for a more casual atmosphere and to put your subjects at ease. Cheers!
I got stung by hundreds of small jellyfish in Danang, but met a lovely lady who was happy to pee on the stings and sooth the pain 😂 we dated for 6 months after that bonding experience
Can you ask other than westerners sometimes? Lots of asians travel in Asia. Usually Japanese and Koreans are easily recognisable but in general all tourists are easily recognisable from locals if you pay attention. It would be nice to hear how they experience their neibooring countries.
I do a lot of :) the thing is most of the time their English is just not understandable enough for my to use as my videos need to be understandable and flow well. Unfortunately it’s more difficult in my experience to get the Asian tourists on camera to have interviews with. I’ll try harder to my Asian brothers and sisters on camera in the future 🙏
I think overall people feel more welcome in Thailand at first. But when people stay longer than a few weeks in Vietnam people start to love Vietnam more and more. I personally feel welcomed in both :)
Anyone that likes a place because of a ‘good’ ex-pat community should ask themselves why they are travelling. In my experience, most locals don’t like ex-pat communities. Also there’s many people that like ex-pat communities but have an issue when one pops up in their country - then the xenophobia starts.
I've lived in a few countries and never hung around expats, especially Americans. The first lady talked about, 'THEM bridging the language gap'. I bet she doesn't know any Vietnamese. I've already started learning Vietnamese but I don't visit until November. Good comment BTW.
I don't understand what the blue shirt guy has about seafood when it's in the glass cabinet, they've just been caught and they temporarily raise them in the glass cabinet to ensure freshness. He probably wants to eat frozen seafood that died long ago in Japan haha
Ow no, I’m sure he was talking about the markets here the fish is not laying on ice. Also Ban Mee places where meat products are stored in areas where is 30+ Celsius. If you’re not use to this some people can get food poisoning
"Whoever is bigger, makes the rules" this is an unfortunate statement from an American, but true. Size does matter - or the size of your military budget, at least . . . .
@@Chai_Travel some places maybe, I guess. like a crowded indoor camera'd-up upscale cafe might be okay, like in Korea. Somehow the post made me think of more like the outdoor cafes or out in public. If you're sitting at a table a couple of meters from traffic then don't even put your phone on the table. If you're in public, learn the two handed phone clench or it might be snatched right out of your hand.
I have been to Vietnam a number of times and currently doing a month in Nha Trang. I have to agree with the guy from Las Vegas about street food in Vietnam being a bit suspect compared to Thailand. I would even say its hard to find cheap good food in Vietnam and you end up buying ready made meals from supermarkets and such to avoid suspect dirty street food and so so food in over priced restaurants. We also observe the same in Vietnam cafes where glasses for the coffee have not been properly cleaned etc. I live mostly in NE Thailand where I live in a village in my own house so I am not someone just off the plane from the west. Maybe food is the most revered thing in Thailand!
I've been to Vietnam three times now and ate street food there quite often. Street foods there were delicious and quite clean. Didn't have any stomach problem. Even drank coffees from glasses and were quite clean. As with any countries in the world, you can find clean and dirty restaurants. Just be careful and be prepared.
Thank you for your time and posting. Negatives + 'not so positives'. :) Interestingly, the first lady talked about "them" bridging the gap in language. Yet, I'm betting she can't speak any Vietnamese.
I just can’t help but smack my head when I hear people like the First Lady who says “ they make such an effort to speak English” but she was there for 5 months and I bet she doesn’t know 6 words in Vietnamese. Expat entitlement at its worst.
@@Chai_Travel What I have found Chai is that when you treat people with respect and you are considerate and courteous, everyone is friendly. Unfortunately, most people are not this way. But everyone is that way in front of a mic and camera. ;) Two small examples: Ever buy some flowers for the ladies at the front desk where you are staying? Ever clean the tables/area of a place you eat at when it was really busy and they couldn't keep up? It costs you nothing. :)
The guy from Hunting Beach is awesome! Definitely more of a traveler than a tourist. Well-spoken, respectful and experienced.

Thank you, I put that on my schedule for November 2024.
Hoping to go to Vietnam in September ish. I've been to Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia many times but never managed to get to Laos or Vietnam. It's all Southeast Asia man, it's all great!!!
Awesome! Man, I’m excited for your trip! Have the best time. Stay in touch
Your Belgian guest missed a great opportunity to respond to you when you said: 'maybe the smile is not always there but the friendliness is underneath' he should have responded: 'just like the Dutch!'
Haha 😝 😁🇳🇱
Thank you my friend for the new episode from Da Nang sharing visitors' opinions about the city. Another wonderful destination with its Dragon Bridge (you have to see it in action) very close to Hoi An, a beautiful, very European coastal town.😉
Haha yes I have last time we were there 🤩 Hoi An is also so beautiful. It’s good to be back for a little while 😊 have a great Sunday
Well done and Thank u for blog.
Question; do you now do travel blog bcoz of content or you genuinely travel ?
Thank you :) a little of both. I used to travel without the camera from 2010. Now I do see it as my job 🫡😊
Thumbs-up Champ.👍🏆❤️
😊 thank you 🥰
There are so many live seafood restaurants there no need to buy dead seafood, it doesn’t get any fresher than live.
Thailand is my favorite but Vietnam def. good to mix it up !
Great video 👍
Thank you 😊
We that live here in Vietnam often shake our head by listening to bloggers asking tourists about " facts".
Agree, I would have first asked how long have they been in Da Nang and put the minimum of two weeks for an interview. But good stuff anyway.
Great work champ. You always find the interesting people to interview that add plenty of value. Take care crossing those roads there Chai. Crazy drivers eh, they sound a bit like those in Malaysia but to be fair Bangkok is lethal too 😂 Maybe these places need to invest in overhead walk overs as they have in Bangers 😂 Have fun there mate 🤩
Yo Steven! Haha yeah it’s just very different style of driving here (also walking) when you get use to it, it is not so bad 😆 thanks champ. Happy Saturday 🌞
It would be so much cheaper if they just used the traffic lights and zebra crossings correctly, or at all😂
Great video! First time I've seen your channel. I subscribed.
Nice one mate! Thanks and I hope you’re able to enjoy more vids in the future 🙂
Just come across your channel mate great stuff 👍
Welcome aboard! Thanks for your introduction Stephen 🏆
Thanks for sharing your video in Da Nang Vietnam
Great content! You sound like you have a Dutch accent. Klop dat? :)
Haha yes! Dat klopt! Geboren en getogen 😁
Very Interesting
Thanks for watching 😊
What the hell is Ned Flanders doing in Nam? 4:55
What is he not doing is a better question 😜
I heard that there is a Leftorium opening soon in Da nang
Very nice large beach. I might go there in November. Anyone know what the weather is like there in mid to late November ? 🤔
It’s a nice time to go :) expect a bit of rain though. I’m sure you’ll love it regardless 😊
Just got back spent 3 months didn't like it felt trapped to hot traffic is insane
3 month is a long time if you didn't like it. I hope you feel better wherever you are now 🙏
GREAT VIDEO!
Yes another video please
Việt Nam tôi còn nhiều nơi đẹp...mong bạn đi và giới thiệu cho thế giới biết về Việt Nam... cảm ơn bạn.
Tôi sẽ cố gắng hết sức :)
I'm waiting for the Nong Son video. 😄😄😄😄
Ey Nam! Coming up soon 😁🏆
Honestly beside the rip-off sea-food night market next to the dragon brigde I didn't noticed any street food vendors in DaNang, like i know them from Thailand. Maybe i stayed in the wrong area 🤔. The beachfront is clean and spacious
Ow there are but not as many :) A great place it is :D Thanks for watching
It is indeed :) aw thanks! Haha I try 💪
Cộng sản thì sao, cộng sản cũng có nhiều mặt còn tốt hơn tư bản đó bạn.
Good Job!😊
Thanks!
No way I've been there for years and eat street food every day never been bad viteman is probably the best place on earth people amazing I'll travel the world but nothing comes close to it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
visit the other parts of the country da nang is such a small part of the country
🫡 yes sir
When Americans and Europeans talk good sides of staying in South East Asia, it reflects on how unkind, expensive, and mundane life is at their home countries. Strange.
Nice work, lots of interviews, and many subtitle options. 🙂 However, I think a large "professional" microphone gives off a "serious interview" vibe and could make people apprehensive. I'd switch to a smaller mic, like many people use, for a more casual atmosphere and to put your subjects at ease. Cheers!
Thank! And thanks for sharing your ideas Doctor :)
he said TH and touches on the experiences...
I got stung by hundreds of small jellyfish in Danang, but met a lovely lady who was happy to pee on the stings and sooth the pain 😂 we dated for 6 months after that bonding experience
What a love story 🤭🥰 thanks for watching
Funny story !
how does one obtain a long term residency?
Businesses visa or marriage I reckon. I believe the people interviewed in this video were just on 30 or 90day visas
I’ll try harder to my Asian brothers and sisters on camera in the future 🙏
is thailand vs vietnam, similar in english language? which country is friendlier & you feel more welcomed as a tourist
I think overall people feel more welcome in Thailand at first. But when people stay longer than a few weeks in Vietnam people start to love Vietnam more and more. I personally feel welcomed in both :)
similar but Vietnam has communism flavor
I think you met a new friend with the last guy (German).
Haha I think so too 😊
Asking the Russian “why did you move here?” 🤣🤣🤣
🙏
Anyone that likes a place because of a ‘good’ ex-pat community should ask themselves why they are travelling. In my experience, most locals don’t like ex-pat communities. Also there’s many people that like ex-pat communities but have an issue when one pops up in their country - then the xenophobia starts.
Interesting point of view
I've lived in a few countries and never hung around expats, especially Americans. The first lady talked about, 'THEM bridging the language gap'. I bet she doesn't know any Vietnamese. I've already started learning Vietnamese but I don't visit until November. Good comment BTW.
Do you know ways to get 1 year visa in Vietnam? We are thinking about Cambodia because is easy and cheap to get 1 year visa
I’m afraid this is not possible and you’ll still need to do border runs
90-day max. Leave VN, complete visa, and come back for another 90 days. :)
Size does matter - or the size of your military budget, at least . . . .
Hello happy travel
Happy travels! Thanks for watching 🏆
Tuyệt vời
Cảm ơn bạn rất nhiều
leaving your laptop unattended? Dude is completely insane - do NOT do that unless you want to lose your gear!
I do that as well when I’m going to the bathroom for instance 🤷♂️ I guess it’s not the most cleaver thing to do
@@Chai_Travel some places maybe, I guess. like a crowded indoor camera'd-up upscale cafe might be okay, like in Korea. Somehow the post made me think of more like the outdoor cafes or out in public. If you're sitting at a table a couple of meters from traffic then don't even put your phone on the table. If you're in public, learn the two handed phone clench or it might be snatched right out of your hand.
Not trying the sea food in Da Nang is a big MISTAKE 😭
Stay away from Danang during rainy season could be very dangerous
Because of the cyclones?
@@Chai_Travel any kind of heavy rain all island flooded
Very Nice Video. En ik krijg de Video’s nu wel weer Goed doorgestuurd als abonnement, probleem oplost. 🙏
Aaah top Gert! Goed om te hore 😃 fijne zaterdag
Yeah the guy from Las Vegas spot on the thing about street food.
They couldnt understand the Australian Accent. 😂😂😂😂
Haha well maybe :p she was struggling with finding people to speak English 🤷♂️
Thank you for your time and posting. Negatives + 'not so positives'. :) Interestingly, the first lady talked about "them" bridging the gap in language. Yet, I'm betting she can't speak any Vietnamese.
Stay for 3 months and then see if you like it to many rules
🙏
I just can’t help but smack my head when I hear people like the First Lady who says “ they make such an effort to speak English” but she was there for 5 months and I bet she doesn’t know 6 words in Vietnamese. Expat entitlement at its worst.
Please don’t hurt yourself :) she might be fluent speaking? We don’t know
Sure she is fluent that’s why she uses google translate.
He needs information on what money is needed and taken
I don’t understand this comment 🙏
Its the second russia forsure
🤔
Beats US rustbelt Appalachia.
🤔
please do not spoil everything otherwise mass of tourists will start to ruin the culture and the prices will sky rockjet
I guess that’s how the economic system works 😅 I’m sorry
I found the people in da nang not very friendly, not liek hanio
Ow really? That’s unfortunate. I feel pretty welcome here 😊 thanks for sharing your experience though
Do giọng nói vùng miền.
cheap cheap cheap ok .... say at least affordable lol
Affordable does sounds better indeed:)
