Because marine biology is a glamour degree. If you really wanna study marine animals study either fisheries biology, GIS systems, oceanography, microbiology, engineering or statistics. These fields will allow you to transfer your skills to the ocean and marine environments where you want to be.
Most people don’t realize you don’t go to college and Enter “marine biology”. Its a labor of love. To truly pursue a degree your looking at 8 years. Most people would rather be accountant or teachers and save yourself about $200,000.
@@takackman9325 I am currently a ichthyology major (fish/zoology major) and nothing you say holds any water, doesn't seem that ever studied biology yourself at all. They can be kept and kept healthy decently easily but the reason I will never own an octopus is because they don't have a very long life span. Yet they are pretty cool in the wild
M M i agree that keeping a super high intelligence pet like an octopus isn’t a good idea unless you have a massive tank you would see at a public aquarium, but I don’t think the standard fish has the same requirement considering they aren’t as smart as the octopi. Yes fish feel pain and can get really bored and scared, but it could be argued that fish would have a better quality of life and lifespan in a closed environment specifically designed around their needs like an aquarium should be, because in the wild they would have predators, food competition, and higher risk of injury. In an good aquarium fish could have live food, different vegetables, and flake food etc. Also, the fish tank should have plenty of plants, caves, and hardscape. That should make them feel safer in the tank and be happier. All of that should really help them feel at home in your tank If you already have done a fish-less nitrogen cycle before you put anything in just because that could put unneeded stress your fish. So I feel that if you design a tank specifically for the needs of your fish and don’t be the guy who walks into pet smart and picks the best looking fish there without a plan, it’s a pretty humane hobby (granted you have done your research).
Hey George, congrats on graduating! I hope you can continue to create content for your channel after you graduate. I really enjoy your channel and am sure I would like anything you put up.
