Out of the years I have been playing Clone Hero, I think the wiitars are the best option for the price. If you are able to grab one for under $20, you could buy one of the solderless Arduino kits and still be under the price of a typical explorer and have led mechanical frets
please only do this on broken wiitars though. they're some of the best out of box guitars for poll rate and latency and seeing them get gutted when they still work fine is such a damn shame

There's also the option to mod a PS3/X360 guitar with a solderless mod kit from RetroCultMods. Best option out there if you have a PS3 guitar but not the dongle as it turns it into a wired guitar and since its Pi Pico powered, can be reprogrammed to be usable on PS3, PS4 and PS5
Both Retrocult no solder and PhunkyCustoms drop in kit have new software. You no longer need to reprogram when switching from PC to console. FYI PhunkyCusttom drop in is the more complete option. I'm not saying better or worse, just more complete.

I would really reccomend playing YARG, it's a newer game similar to Clone Hero, with active support, and more features, including venues, and even characters in the future
I don't like it as well so far. The fret board is too short no matter what camera angle I set and I really don't like the RB style. Also Clone Hero is about to release a new update. I haven't played YARG in a couple of weeks. Last time I did there wasn't venues unless you had a mod.
I've tried YARG, my only issue is that it doesn't have like a Gamepad Mode and trying to strum with a gamepad while using the triggers as frets ain't my thing.

the overpriced dongle part is so relatable, got into clone hero ~1 year ago and instantly found 2 rockband 1 strats at goodwills for $1 and $7. thought i got away with a steal till i realized i would need dongles and went crazy looking at the total cost for what were considered subpar guitars :( ... great video tho!

2:50 Just throwing this out there: Rock Band 4 controllers for PS4 are straight-up bluetooth with no dongle and the one I have connected to my PC without issue and was basically plug-and-play, all I had to do was calibrate for my monitor. I can't speak for the Xbox One RB4 controllers, but both my PS4 drum kit and guitar works flawlessly with Clone Hero. (though I wish I had a better guitar as I like to have a strum bar that has some feedback) I had specifically gotten a RB4 drum and guitar so I can play RB4 on my PS5 and when I learned about Clone Hero recently, I thought I'd have to have some kind of adapter to make the peripherals I have function on PC until I figured out that that they were bluetooth, and once I did I was up and playing Clone Hero in a few minutes. However, as is common with MANY peripherals, the whammy bar and tilt function on the guitar will not work. I also don't know if hooking up the Pro Drums peripherals would work on PC at all as I do not own those.
If you're tech savvy enough you can also buy a broken guitar and bring some new life into with a Retrocult modkit. Comes with both mechanical frets and mechanical switches for the strum bar, it's more on the pricier side but if you're looking to get something I guess "fancier" you can always go that route.
I highly recommend checking goodwills and thrift stores for guitars, i just bought an X-plorer last week for 5 dollars at goodwill and for the past few years i've gotten all my guitars from goodwill and thrift stores, never spent over 10 dollars on any of them.
I will always recommend GH5/Band Hero as intro guitars. I have been rockin one as a daily driver for 7 years and it is still in fantastic condition. I’ve learned everything from rake strumming to tapping on it and I’ve never had to replace anything. It is not the best by any means, but it is durable as hell.
With an adapter? There isn’t bad latency or whatever? All I’ve heard when mentioning it to a few ppl. I just got the gh5 one today but don’t have the adapter
Im using the World Tour guitar for 360 and honestly its one of my more favorite ones for feel. Only problem is the strumbar sometimes gotta take a break so they stop feeling mushy but just ordered a rgb kit from retrocult so that should take all the problems away.

I can’t get into Clone Hero man, I mean it’s cool that you can have custom songs and all that and it looks just like guitar hero but it’s not the guitar hero I know and love. I love hearing the whammy fx and I love hearing the crowd reactions. Clone Heroes not for me man. As for custom songs I have GH3 for PC and I have custom songs on that so I’m totally fine with sticking to the OG stuff

I lucked out and found a barley used xbox 360 xplorer at my cousins basement. He been moved out and i asked him how much for the guitar and he told me just take it dude. Been working great with clone hero and it's plug and play., No adapter needed.
id imagine we can wait for the pdp guitars coming out this year as well i believe they will be rockband style, but it would be a new guitar so it should work flawlessly hopefully it does not cost too much, but with the prices of the stuff now it cant be any worse
I like the PS3 World Tour and the Guitar Hero 5 controllers best. The PS3 Les Paul is my next best. There is some latency but unless your a hard core player looking to compete its fine. No worse than paying the original games. I have one or 2 of almost every guitar controller. Some modded and some not.
I still had my Guitar Hero: Metallica Game, dongle and guitar for PS2 laying around and found out about Clone Hero, after some messing around with a cheap adapter and a usb2 extension cable it all works fine, the latency is no different from the original game. I had the whammy bar working at one point but the tilt sensor messed the other inputs up, I set it all up again and can't for the life of me get it to register the whammy now.
I need some help. Both the GHWT and GH3 ps3 dongles no longer work for Clone Hero. This all happened after using zadig to get them to work on RPCS3, but to no avail and now they don't work for CH as well. How do I fix this?
Ask somebody who plays on an explorer that they were lucky to get cheap, I completely disagree with the star power argument. All of the Xbox 360 guitars have a issue with tilting working consistently. I much prefer the PS2 having a select button, and if I ever open up the explorer to upgrade anything I plan to add a button down there

Thing is, clone hero isn't really getting updates YARG is however, it is rockband based, but you can change the engine preset to give you that clone hero goodness

I used to play guitar hero "professionally" when gamers didn't get paid well lol. Les Pauls die in less than a year due to connectivity issues with the arm. Xplorer is the best by far

The thing is, Rock band strum sucks ass so getting a GH guitar is likely a better option. so uh, I modded a rock band guitar, I thought it was bad because there was no feedback without it being plugged in, It might be biased since i modded it but I really like my rock band guitar, all inputs are stock, just connected to an Uno R3 which I got for free, id suggest the pi pico for anyone looking into modding a guitar

If you change the audio offset, wireless latency doesn't make a difference

Tilt worked right away on 2 pcs and 2 different X-plorers
I've been using my Wii rock band guitar with a dongle and the only thing you have to do if you get latency issues is just re calibrate

Ps3 guitars are cheap and you can convert them into arduino guitars, or even easier, get that retrocult mods conversion kit, its foolproof.

Personally nothing beats the smoothness and silence of the RB4 guitars. They're hell to configure properly and they cost an arm though.

So I got the explorer guitar for clonehero on my 2019 macbook and it won't work. Am I SOL here? I had another wireless 360 guitar hero guitar and an adapter but those did not work either.

The only good ones you can use are from any rockband4. But they don’t give you full controller support
Docking station / hub + 10ft cable gives plenty of freedom in my experience, and is less of a headache than dealing with bluetooth and batteries.

I used to play guitar hero "professionally" when gamers didn't get paid well lol. Les Pauls die in less than a year due to connectivity issues with the arm. Xplorer is the best by far

The thing is, Rock band strum sucks ass so getting a GH guitar is likely a better option. so uh, I modded a rock band guitar, I thought it was bad because there was no feedback without it being plugged in, It might be biased since i modded it but I really like my rock band guitar, all inputs are stock, just connected to an Uno R3 which I got for free, id suggest the pi pico for anyone looking into modding a guitar

@@casedistortedyou would wanna get a wired rb strat with the strum fix modif youre going for rb specific guitars otherwise go for a wii less Paul with a raphnet (or similar) or a xbox 360 xplorer just make sure its wired
riffmaster apparently got canceled in an FCC filing. they still have the announcement tweet up on their twitter so we’ll see.

So the x-plorer controller is the best controller and you gave it the least amount of time. I'm on here searching for best options to set up clone hero for my daughter. I need more than just saying its the best. We don't want cord connections because her and her friends are all going to be standing across the room playing. Is the x-plorer corded or Bluetooth? I don't even know what else to ask. But it was frustrating when you said this is the best option and then you barely said anything about it.
