@@JamesRichards-mj9kwyour a fucking traitor. Collins tactic brought the British empire to the table. He knew he could build the Irish forces a d retake the 6 counties in the North. Dev the dirty bastard didn't like the rise of popularity of collins. We would be a better country today if the civil war never broke out. To many good Irish men died for nothing. Instead look at what we have today.

Michael Collins was much more a true patriot then nationalist. Everything he did was founded on pragmatic reasons and realistic goals. Of course he had his ideals for an independent free state with strong social justice. He literarily sacrificed himself to reach these goals, but acted always in a responsible way. If he would have lived longer then the Free State would certainly have evolved into an republic and his pragmatic realism would have created trust towards the Northern counties. This could have given Ireland and its Northern counties a real chance to grow closer together over the years. De Valera and his radical idealists blew it all, with Civil War and a fundamental breach with the Northern counties as a result. De Valera was a God's gift to the extremist Protestants of the North while they all feared Micheal Collins power to compromise and showing a way towards a truly united Ireland for everybody, Protestants and Catholics alike.

I think both, Mr. Michael Collins and Mr. De Valera were very controversial in their time...but both were good patriots in their own way.
The countless nameless dead from the many uprisings and previous defeats are the true heroes. They made the greatest sacrifice a human being can give - their own lives. You have to give the Irish credit for that...they were very self-sacrificing.

@@shredder9536 Yes, I wondered that too...nothing to do with Ireland. Some people unfortunately turn on their M.S.M and believe every bloody thing they say without doing proper research to understand why people go to war..There's always two sides to a conflict. Putin is no angel...but I understand why he went into Ukraine. We in the west are experts at helping to set up wars. Discusting!
As for Collins ...I think he was a brilliant man...with no hatred of the English people ...just their greedy and corrupt leaders . The civil war was typical of what humans beings do ...hot heads who refuse to think things out with steady minds. I remember reading about many anti treaty prisoners in mount joy prison...who when hearing about the death of Michael Collins got down on their knees with remorse and starting praying. So sad . Now today most Irish buy British newspapers, support British soccer teams, watch British TV, buy British goods, listen to British music, and have soo many British stores in Ireland. The British they so wanted rid off!!! And to crown it off we Irish have replaced British control with the E.U globalists controllers....We are not free!

The civil war should never have happened and I put all the blame on Dev for leaving the Dail and making that terrible speech about Irish Blood. I have read a number of books on both Dev and Michael. And I feel that we have lost a wonderful leader and the country would have been a lot different than we have today. I feel Tim Pat book on him sums him up so well.
