She reconciled with dufus Doug because she did not want to relinquish possession of her child, she didn't want the child out of her sight. She did what any psycho possessive mother would do, kill the threat. She did the crime, she'll do the time. Hope that child gets to live a normal life as only an orphan can live. I’m not buying her defence. He was in the way and she had to remove him. I truly believe she just wanted a child and not a husband and her plan didn’t work out the way she thought it would. This is not a domestic abuse case, Marsha Thompson’s case IS. Shame on you for taking advantage of the “battered wife defence” when there are so many that depend on it, because they need it.

She wanted a child from a man w deep pockets. As soon as she realized that her accusations wouldn't work, she had to come up with a way that he would never have visitation but still get a good amount of his money. Her putting her 6 yr old child out there is totally inappropriate, to me, that is emotional abuse & why is she even understanding what is going on? I had to go to court for an attempted murder on myself, I would NEVER have considered taking my child to that court let alone get him to hold up a sign outside a courthouse at 6 years of age parading a sign that she shouldn't be holding I would protect my child from the public scrutiny and the emotional trauma of it all, she should be playing with her friends, or at school trying to learn and enjoy her childhood while she can.
How is she protecting her from future trauma, it's appalling! This is not a political rally, this is a murder trial defence or not, she killed her biological father!

He was 54 & she was 24, they married 13 days after meeting. He was infatuated with her beauty, her age and she thought he probably had money…there’s a MAJOR problem right there. I’ve been following the case, and I don’t believe he was abusing her. She soon found herself pregnant and no longer wanted to be married to him and she started making up stories to get rid of him. She wasn’t afraid of him, he never was a threat to her, sadly he didn’t realize she was plotting to kill him. Why would she have been alone in the house with him, if she feared him. I think she let her mother take their baby out of the house when he arrived because she was going to kill him. Doug thought he was going to be moving with her, their text messages looked as though she was going to let him. This girl is a MURDERER, where were the tears when she was on the witness stand? She put on one heck of a show when asked to demonstrate how Doug came towards her. Still ZERO TEARS.
    She’s guilty of MURDER!!
She deliberately kept him away from his child, and was trying to get sole custody of the baby, not allowing him to even co-parent together.
She needs to be found GUILTY and sent to prison with ZERO CHANCE of PAROL.

I've been watching the trial. Yes, he shot the ceiling during an argument, punched their dog, threw their cat, punched the wall. She googled "How to co-parent with an abuser" 4 or 5 months before the shooting ... but they won't allow this information in as evidence (so far). I can see now why she may have been afraid of him and thought he could harm her.
ETA - He was also NOT shot in the back as previously reported. Main bullet entered his right pec at somewhat of an angle.

Ladies, if a man 30 years your senior love bombs you and tries to sweep you off your feet and proposes in 4 days and or encourages marriage short of two weeks time, run. He was only able to hold out for 3 months before he showed his true colors. And she was already married to him. There is enough corroboration of Ashley Benefield's side that I believe she is not guilty by reason of self-defense. Doug was an abuser and a violent man. And anybody who will punch a dog and knock it out like Doug did is a bad person. Anybody calling her a gold digger has it mixed up. He was the one who sought to steal her youth and dignity. He would have killed her if she didn't kill him. When you're trying to extricate yourself from a relationship with a serious narcissist / possibly psychopath, you are at most risk of losing your life. Not guilty by reason of self defense. He had told her she was done. He was going to kill her.

Men, if a woman 30 years, your junior convinces you to marry her within 13 days, you need to speak to a psychologist about your vulnerabilities and get the hell away from that woman.
Not only is Ashley’s story not credible, her accusations of abuse were such blatant lies that the family court judge not just told her she wasn’t credible, but said that there was not an iota of credibility about it.
There was no evidence that was violent or an abuser.
The only “evidence” that he punched a dog is the statement of a murderer with a track record of lying. He stated all he did was push the dog off his lap.
He did not tell her he was done. He was hoping to reconcile. They wanted to withdraw from the divorce proceedings _and the judge refused to let him until he saw the results of the psychological evaluation of her and she killed him before he could see those_ She told him that she wanted to reconcile, and she asked him to come with a U-Haul to get her and her things, she invited him into the gated community, which is the only way he could’ve gotten in there, and she sent her mother and child away when he was due to arrive _something no abused woman afraid of a violent abuser would ever do_

Any parent withholding a child from the other parent is by definition a bad human being. Period. It's parental alienation. One of the most despicable things you can do as a parent, to begin with. Parents who do that are real, true narcissists. Now the grandmother standing outside of court with a six year old child.. It's in line with the previous behaviour. It's emotional abuse. Such a clear case. If the little girl does not get access to her father's family, she is likely to grow up in a web of lies, believing them and rejecting her father and his extended family. It carries on into adulthood, with fundamentally broken realationships. Thanks to the mother and her family.

She told 2 different stories . Why did she not allow to see their baby, she really hated him enough to try to keep their baby away from him. The dad, did make a great effort to travel very far, so he could make up and spent more hours with his daughter. I think he really loved Ashley and his baby. Ashley , seems to be playing lying, playing with his emotions, she never had intentions of moving in with him or even live near them to see her daughter. when she noticed that he tired to mead the love for her, she knew that shooting him would be enough monies left to her or their baby. He made a great effort to be close to his daughter. Sad, she shot him , so he would not defend himself. Why would she not trust her husband, he bought toys for his daughter and was willing to move near his daughter and she took his life away and he will never see his daughters again.
