@Tedward @2:00 you know why the gear lever looks like that in a Mercedes truck???
If not, I'll tell you why and at the same time an anecdote from my life as a German truck driver who had to learn the hard (expensive) way.... but Mercedes too!!!
In the middle of the 90's Mercedes came up with the idea of testing the "Tiptronic" and what was it tested in??? In trucks...
during this time a lot of gear sticks (almost too many) were demolished, broken, bent, torn out, etc...
because the gear stick still looked like a gear stick and not like this "plastic lever with lots of buttons" and we truck drivers were used to change the "range" with a "firm" blow to the left or right!!!!! The "Tiptronic lever" looked the same but could only be moved back and forth. Often enough this stick, which cost over $1000 (without installation), broke off.
I've seen trucks myself where the driver stuck a screwdriver into the mechanics for forward/back and the original stick was on the center console because of the cables for splitting and changing the range because they didn't have the money to repair it. That became too expensive for Mercedes in the long run so they designed this abomination... but it worked! ;))
another tip: you can “pre-select” the gears then you have about 15 seconds. to use the clutch
But I have a question? Why do US regulated vehicles have 2 buttons as a handbrake
We have a "combination lever" that has exactly the same functions and also functions as an "emergency brake"!
