- Making recipes from my new cookbook Vegan Party Planning! a.co/d/bpnssqs This vegan Fettuccine Alfredo is my favorite pasta recipe at the moment, and we make it for dinner a lot these days! After dinner, we decorated the tree and I was reminded that the holidays are even more special with familiar things around. Decorating for Christmas and all of the holiday gift guides out there can make over-buying seem really appealing, but seeing some of my old favorites in the boxes we brought with us from LA reminded me that tradition, continuity, and gratitude are way more important to me than holiday trends. Don’t get me wrong, I like buying new items too, but I’m really talking about that impulse to go overboard, or the comparison trap that makes us feel like what we have isn’t enough, that I really want to be aware of/ avoid! lol A cozy home is one that feels like YOU and your story. So fill it intentionally with happy memories, good food, and pieces that truly spark joy ✨ I hope you enjoy this vlog 🥰 Love you guys, happy decorating!

I turned 70 this year and I have ornaments that were on my nursery tree. In spite of many moves, many Christmas trees, I've kept them safe and sound and they are glass! Here in New Mexico we make posole and tamales for Christmas Eve and I have manged to find vegan tamales for the last few years. And I make a Christmas Eve salad of avocados, grapefruit, jicama in star shapes and pomagrantes with a very lite vinegrette that complements the heavy posole. It's glorious here with the lumanarias all over town...even in the cemetaries along with the Christmas lights. We also go to the movies on Christmas Day and see as many as we can! It use to be that our Christmas dinner was popcorn, Coke and Mlk Duds But that has been hard to veganize.
That Christmas Eve salad sounds delicious. I love New Mexico!
@@Rmayhem209 it’s really wonderful and simple. I use a standard vinaigrette but use half lime juice and have white wine or champagne vinegar. I love New Mexico too!

I too love the familiarity of our older ornaments. Sometimes, the thought of getting out the tree and decorating it seems like a chore... until we actually do it. And then it becomes fun! Because my husband and I have been together for almost 40 years, we've accumulated a lot of ornaments! We pare down every year with no regrets. We want to love each one that we keep. That way, it really is joyful to hang them and look at them. I am so grateful for your reminders to keep things cozy and to have out those elements of nature that are refreshing like greenery (or flowers and plants) and scents. I look forward to your Sunday morning videos each week! 🎉
We buy an ornament every year with the year on it, we have them from when we married in 1996! They are so special and we have individual ornaments for each member of our family.....they have very special memories for all of us, particularly the ones of people that have passed.

My ornament is 50 + years old - My parents have a cardboard paper Angel topper.its covered in a kind of iridescent wrap for its body with a dolls head and decorative wings. She has been repaired and restored countless times. I am 52…. It will always be my connection to my past.

I collect ornaments every year that mark a life event that year. The first year I was living on my own I bought a bunch of cheap ornaments most are gone but I still have a few. Last year we bought some of those felt gnome ornaments you have, I can't wait to have my kids over hang the ornaments and tell our favorite stories of each one.
I grew. I love getting out my special Christmas decorations. I love them. ❤
thanks for the yummy recipes~~my favorite ornaments are a box of vintage x-mas balls from my Italian grandfather that my mom gave me after his passing~~probably a 100 years old~~~also my husband and I started a tradition of purchasing x-mas ornaments each year when we travel somewhere new~~so our x-mas tree represents the story of our travels for the last 30 years~~wishing you and yours much love for the holidays!!!

I have enjoyed your channel for years now since you were on The Vegan View and I appreciate and use so many of your wonderful vegan recipes. I am craving your Alfredo pasta dish now with the crispy tofu. Will need to go grocery shopping again this week. Also the crispy broccoli. Just my kind of comfort food. I am like you and like older sentimental items on my Christmas tree. I have several ornaments that were my grandmothers and one that was my husband's mom's ornament. They are so special to us both. Also a photo ornament my parents gave me for their 40th wedding anniversary and they are gone now but always in my heart. I also cherish some older Christmas mugs and decorations that were passed down in our families. 💜

I buy an ornament (or 2) whenever I travel so my tree is filled with ornaments from different countries I’ve been to and each one has a wonderful story and a great reminder of that particular trip. I also have ornaments that have been gifted to me which I cherish.
I love that!! I think ornaments and local cookbooks are such good travel souvenirs when visiting a new country! They always take me right back to that time and place. I love that you have that tradition when you travel, it's so special 🥰 I definitely want to do that more in the future 🎄✨

I love getting one or two new Christmas decoration item once in a while but the ornaments i love most are the ones I inherited from my grandma. There are 2 cute nutcrackers and 2 small birds that i probably like most. Also I really like that my parents kept most of our childhood Christmas diys - its just fun to see them appear around the holidays even though they are often not that pretty.

Re decorations - so true! A new one is always fun but the old ones are such treasures. I hold dear ones gifted to our kids from our cousins in Australia. Actually each year I hang on the tree a gift we got from them for our wedding day - little bride and bridegroom teddies on a ribbon that they requested me to drape over my arm as good luck charm. They bring back so many memories and a reminder of our loved ones Down Under! Love your Act of Kindness gift and all it represents!! ❤️

The tree looks great! I like older sentimental ornaments.. its the nostalgia for me, but I also like to shop 4 new stuff😄🤷🏾♀️
Thank you and yes, totally! I like new stuff too, don't get me wrong! 😊 I also like adding to the collection, but I just meant that there can be pressure to over-buy and stock up on new stuff just to keep up with trends and it can be overwhelming.
Realizing that I really like the items I already have was a nice feeling, and a good reminder that sometimes less is more ❤️✨
I definitely love the old decorations, I have some from my childhood and I think the oldest one is from 1994. It brings me so much joy to see those old ones for sure. My husband and I will buy a new ornament if we see one we like that way the tree will slowly fill through the years. I love the traditional look plus it’s timeless and won’t go out of style. Also will be buying your book soon, hopefully an ebook option as I use my iPad when cooking.

I've had the same artificial tree for years as well as the same ornaments so now that my kids are a little older they enjoy trimming the tree, especially when we pull out our individualized ornaments they love it! Would the sauce work well with silken tofu? I'm severely allergic to cashews and most tree nuts.
Good question! This recipe hasn't been tested with tofu but I'd be happy to give it a try and create one for you! Stay tuned, I'll see what I can come up with 😊
