A couple of suggestions: First of all, for more of a briny sea flavor, I would blend in some seaweed (kombu or wakame, or even torn up nori sushi wrappers). Second, beets or beet root powder create a dark pink color (not red, orange or yellow)...which is closer to the color of fresh tuna than salmon, that is more orange than pink. The soy sauce helps a little. But, I would add some ground turmeric, for a yellow color (& a hint of bitterness that is part of salmon flavor). Then add the beet root or powder, bit by bit, until the appropriate orange shade is achieved. Finally...while salmon contains no carbs, it has a faintly sweet taste. There is some sugar in tamari sauce but little or none in regular soy sauce...so, if that is used, a pinch of sugar can be added to the marinade. Other than that...thanks for the recipe idea.
I tried it and was a little dissapointed at first, because I always expect the exact flavors like in the real thing. Reheated it the next day and then it was really good! I think the fishy taste of the nori sheet was soaked up in the tofu. Maybe next time I will throw nori sheets in the marinade aswell :)
@@amaria164 Tofu and Nori are rich in vitamins and minerals. Tofu is a complete protein, supports heart health and can help lower risk of getting breast cancer and type 2 diabetes. Nori also has the omega 3s that fish has, but you could also add things like walnuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds and edamame to your diet to get enough since most people don't eat nori daily.
As a vegan I find your explanation terrific for anyone who would doubt the benefit of a plant based diet. Love your approach as well as the plated dinner.
I saw this video yesterday and RAN to the supermarket. I made it today and wow!! I can’t really remember what salmon tastes like but this was so flavorful! I made it with a vegan butter, garlic and lemon sauce to drizzle on top to really hit that nostalgia from pre-vegan days and wow! I’m definitely that person who binges on a meal for weeks until I get tired of it. I def know what’s for dinner and lunch for the next few weeks 🤣

I love this recipe, I've made a variation of it before 😋. To add some omega 3s and make it taste even more fishy, I like to drizzle a little flax oil on top. It changes the mouth feel sooo much!
My favorite part was the intermission where you sat and talked to viewers. I never ate much fish but might try this as something new especially since I got my first air fryer 🎉❤

Thanks so much! Looks great! Fish eats algae and that's why they have omega 3 EPA/DHA - same one we can get via algae oil (do not heat), clean and pure with no heavy metals. 🙂

thanks for pointing out all the good reasons for not eating fish - the damage that we are doing to the ocean and the horrible way we treat our fellow earthlings when we farm them needs to be ended as soon as possible. An excellent recipe and absolutely delicious and i say that as someone who also used to love eating fish!

I did the vegan salmon and I highly confirm: it is absolutely DELICIOUS! This is the best vegan substitute recipe I've ever had! I also add a nori leave to the marinade, it brings extra fishy flavor to the filets ❤_ ❤YUMMYYYYY!!!

Yes vegan food is delicious! So much food in so many cultures is already vegan. But in the west veganism threatens many [cruel] industries and so there’s a lot of propaganda about vegan food being weird and bland. I think a lot of chefs disparage it because you have to learn a whole new set of techniques to flavor your food and make it incredible. Those aren’t the skills they are familiar with and so try to make it seem like it isn’t good. But more and more people are discovering vegan food is wonderful and they are learning to fix meals themselves. Not to mention the health benefits… I’m 52 and my heart calcium score is ZERO and not evidence of any plaque in my heart or arteries 👏🏽🙏🏽✨
I've been vegan a long time but sometimes I still need to hear that sermon on why we don't eat animals! It really fills the soul to hear another person speak on it so eloquently ❤ thank you for advocating for the animals!

Great recipe, definitely going to give it a try soon. When you talked about over fishing, I understand it's hard for us humans to relate to fish and maybe that's why you said fishing effects turtles, whales sharks etc. But do you know what fishing also effects? The fish!! They are sentient beings that can feel pain, fish die in extreme suffering as they slowly suffocate to death after being caught. I get it, whales and turtles are cute but a salmon life is just as valid as the cute ones.

Thanks for explaining about how unnecessary it is to eat fish, the problem of bycatch of sharks, turtles etc, and the pollution and parasites. I love vegan fish and just tried Happiee Vegan shrimp ("Shrimpiee" ) for the first the today. There was a massive gap in the market for premade but also recipes for seafood and it's finally catching up! I made Gaz Oakley's vegan "fish and chips" recipe from tofu and nori and I'm still surprised how good it was. Thanks for sharing this recipe! 💚

My husband, usually vegetarian, bought salmon today to prepare for his 90 year old father at Christmas. I was going to make a lentil loaf fir myself with baked potato. But I think I'll make this. I think i can use the beets i have frozen to bring the red color. I have tofu and most if not all of the ingredients already. I think ill prepare this tomorrow, along with potatoes. I'll likely have a salad instead of the spinach dish. I am excited. Salmon is the only meat that has tempted me since going plant exclusive in 2020. I cosign that. Super Trawler nets kill or suffocate ALL types of sealife too and fish farms are sick and lack omegas. Algae oil is great for omega3

My husband, usually vegetarian, bought salmon today to prepare for his 90 year old father at Christmas. I was going to make a lentil loaf fir myself with baked potato. But I think I'll make this. I think i can use the beets i have frozen to bring the red color. I have tofu and most if not all of the ingredients already. I think ill prepare this tomorrow, along with potatoes. I'll likely have a salad instead of the spinach dish. I am excited. Salmon is the only meat that has tempted me since going plant exclusive in 2020. I love one commenter's suggestion of the garlic lemon "butter." Here i go! Thanks!
