More importantly, it brings the athlete more joy. Why not? Otherwise, its some power trip on the other end.
That's what's interesting though, in other sports that have some sort of format that divides up the competitors into different levels like this "A session, B session" format they'll hand pick the top competitors to be in the premier session, under the spotlight. And, from the promoter's/sanctioning body's/etc.'s perspective, they're depending on the attention that the big names generate to get people to tune in, show up, buy merch, etc.(running comps/events isn't exactly a big money making endeavor). Yea, it sucks for the competitors that they have to deal with the additional stresses that come with the spotlight session - but all the top competitors are competing under those same circumstances, so it isn't exactly 'unfair'. Those less than ideal circumstances are a 'reward' for being as good as you are lol. After all, 'the best' in most other sports are typically overcoming that extra hurdle of always competing under pressure in the spotlight, it tends to come with the territory of being a regular winner, nevermind record breaker.

He is setting himself up for success. If comp organizers don't like it they need to find another way to determine groups.
Clever use of the rules. If I wanted to get rid of it, I'd probably do something like seeding based off of the athlete's best performance within the last year or so instead of letting them self report. It's how high school track meets were done in my neck of the woods, but that probably has a bunch of issues as well.
Its up to the officials to enter wr holders or wc into the A sections if they so pleased. Otherwise he is just entering a category which has an A and B section. Makes no difference to the medals if they come from either A or B surely. I am very glad you are aware of these 'back door' entries and show us their awesome lifting. Thank you guys.
as long as records are split into a and b sessions it shouldn’t be a problem. but performing on the biggest stage is part of the challenge, not just the weight. In combat sports there’s a saying that there are many who can beat world champs in the training room but they don’t got it under the bright lights
He may be gaining an advantage in taking more time to rep in a lesser competition environment but he's also giving up a huge advantage by going first and letting the A session know which weight they'll have to top.
One of the very few times an athlete from my country who prefers performance over fame and an athlete who actually showing big brain move rather than showboating... very proud of him
I don't understand. Timing is shorter for him in the B section. He could do better in the A section where he would have more time to recover and prepare for attempts. For me it's not cheating but deliberate downgrading himself.
not fair to say he's exploiting anything. at the end of the day, it's you versus the weight. either you can lift it or you can't. and in his case, he outlifted his opponents by a significant amount
TRUE, even IWF didnt include him at highlight when broke record only A session included. sad but Rahmat and his father know the best, me as fans need to support him \m/
Not only this, but the new loopholes involve long sleeve shirts, hair piled on top of their heads, extra wide belts, continuous knee wraps, etc. Everything has changed. Next they will allow lifters to be "equipped" like powerlifters.
Well he is an Indonesian. We Indonesian love thinking and act out of the box, with little regard for overall situation. As long as he win anything fair. He has no worries about anything else such as what session he supposed to compete.
MIKHAIL PETROV did 200.5 kg C&J 1987 in Ostrava in the 67.5 kg class. ALEXANDER VARBANOV did 215.5 kg in the 75 class in 1987 in Seoul. Zlatev 225 kg 1986 in Sofia in the 82.5 kg class.
This just convinced me that there shouldn't even be a B-session. What's the point? It's like weightlifting rules puts some in a "participation-trophy" group, and that feels disrespectful imo. As we've seen, anyone who might not be the best can still have a great day competing, or someone who is elite can have a terrible day and completely bomb. Of course, in Rahmat's case, it's neither; he's just an elite who's gaming the system for his benefit. Just let them compete on the same level already and quit trying to engineer it all. It'll be better for everyone, especially fans.
This is like swimming for the Olympics, swimming for the main race, but not _in_ the main race, and winning just by your time alone, with very few people around.
The elephant in the room Seb and Max aren't picking up on is the strategy of lifting in B,C,etc sessions on purpose, and how it has to do with the dumb tiebreak rule. If you make the same weight in a previous session as a person in the A session, you win. This strategy gives you a better shot. The "who made it first" thing needs to be changed back to lower bodyweight tiebreak -- it's easier to understand (especially how poorly implemented the televised scoreboard is), and it is all the more relevant in the era of devalued weight categories and how we're seeing very light athletes bump up to heavier categories to make the Olympics, like.
8:28 - Using a snatch opener as a C&J warmup is such a crazy flex, but it makes perfect sense. I wouldn't be surprised if many future C&J World records come about this way.
Its good and bad for the lifter. If they'll let you time your lifts how you want, its a great advantage. If you still need to stick to their timings, it can be detrimental. At last years static monsters (worldwide strongman 2 lift comp) my opener was above the the last attempt of everyone else where i was competing and i didnt really have enough time between each lift to fully recover due to the timings of the event. As for if its cheating? Not against the rules. If organisers don't like it, they should seed the groups based on recent performances and stop allowing self reporting of lift totals.
After watched it the conclusion is he does not gain any unfair advantage on anyone. Seems like he just likes the vibe of B session. After all weigh lifting is one against the weight.
What I see is a strong lifter highlighting a B category and hitting huge numbers that might push top athletes to go even heavier. If the top ones still have time to catch up it seems to be fine or he wouldn’t get the World Record medals anyway in B category.
If you win a world championship Olympics from whatever session, you should be obligated to be in the A session the following year for title defense. This dude would have done this 3 years in a row if he had actually tried for more than a 145kg snatch
Not Rahmat the lightest weightlifter, who achived the 200 kg. In the 80' Varbanov and Petrov achived this weight in the old 67,5 kg category. However that was the golden era for steroids ;)

Being a novice in weigh lifting, I didn't quite get the A session B session thing. I watch these videos to see these amazing athletes. Dang!
Give applaus to his father cz create the goat 👏
His dad is proper jacked and very useful when your legs 🦵 are tired. So wholesome 😊
Congratulations Indonesia :D . Love from Malaysia
Much respect to the Indonesian team. Though Rahmat didn't qualify for the olympics, his team mate did!
And won the gold medal
he has brains and brawn. Well done.
Won Jeong-sik did this at the 2018 Worlds -73kg. So that he could time his attempts better. Ended up winning silver.
as long as records are split into a and b sessions it shouldn’t be a problem. but performing on the biggest stage is part of the challenge, not just the weight. In combat sports there’s a saying that there are many who can beat world champs in the training room but they don’t got it under the bright lights
He perfected Kirill Pavlov's technique.
When will people realise that the best thing an athlete can do for themselves, is to stop competing against others. Kudos to this chap.
Partake in a competition… to avoid competing…
Do you see it? 😉
2:27 If you just wanna get to the point
It's called sandbagging, if I'm correct?
He may be gaining an advantage in taking more time to rep in a lesser competition environment but he's also giving up a huge advantage by going first and letting the A session know which weight they'll have to top.
One of the very few times an athlete from my country who prefers performance over fame and an athlete who actually showing big brain move rather than showboating... very proud of him
I don't understand. Timing is shorter for him in the B section. He could do better in the A section where he would have more time to recover and prepare for attempts. For me it's not cheating but deliberate downgrading himself.
He is still lifting the higher weight so I think it’s fine
1minute explanation stretched into 11-minutes: gross practices
ye man i skipped thru hoping to find literally just a quick explanation part. send this guy to the mines
not fair to say he's exploiting anything. at the end of the day, it's you versus the weight. either you can lift it or you can't. and in his case, he outlifted his opponents by a significant amount
TRUE, even IWF didnt include him at highlight when broke record only A session included. sad but Rahmat and his father know the best, me as fans need to support him \m/
Smart team. All power to them. Others will just wish they'd thought of it first.
In one sentence: "This Guy" chose to compete in the quieter environment.
It's must be because of the belt and tank, they gives you +25 VIT and 30+ STR.
title : how this guy become the best
explanation : it's all begin with an event called the big bang
If a loophole is bad, it should be closed. If not, it's just strategy.
Can't wait to see him on the Olympics
last month at the 2023 Chinese Asian Games event, Rahmat broke the C&J world record 201 kg in the 73 kg class
9:55 that left foot slip made me shriek
Did 80s like it's nothing. WTF? This guy is a GOAT
MIKHAIL PETROV did 200.5 kg C&J 1987 in Ostrava in the 67.5 kg class. ALEXANDER VARBANOV did 215.5 kg in the 75 class in 1987 in Seoul. Zlatev 225 kg 1986 in Sofia in the 82.5 kg class.
It's nothing, he just outlifted everyone. that simple
sounds like it's on the fans to attend and enjoy the competition
I really don't see anything wrong with what he is doing. It's either you can lift the weight or not, as simple as that.
it's clickbait
This just convinced me that there shouldn't even be a B-session.
What's the point? It's like weightlifting rules puts some in a "participation-trophy" group, and that feels disrespectful imo. As we've seen, anyone who might not be the best can still have a great day competing, or someone who is elite can have a terrible day and completely bomb. Of course, in Rahmat's case, it's neither; he's just an elite who's gaming the system for his benefit.
Just let them compete on the same level already and quit trying to engineer it all. It'll be better for everyone, especially fans.
Go Indonesia!! Finally medals for Indonesia besides badminton....
This is like swimming for the Olympics, swimming for the main race, but not _in_ the main race, and winning just by your time alone, with very few people around.
Yeah like Thors deadlift “world record” lmao
This guy is weighing everything, even the pressure of competition
Might get more crowds to the b sessions to if the some of the bigger names star competing there
The elephant in the room Seb and Max aren't picking up on is the strategy of lifting in B,C,etc sessions on purpose, and how it has to do with the dumb tiebreak rule.
The total is the total , doesn't matter wich section...
Pros and cons to this for him. It's not an unfair advantage.
It’s not a problem, he’s incredible regardless
8:28 - Using a snatch opener as a C&J warmup is such a crazy flex, but it makes perfect sense. I wouldn't be surprised if many future C&J World records come about this way.
PROUD OF RAHMAT
Well, Rizki beats the odds and eventually win a gold medal in paris. Indonesia 73kg weightlifting is in a good hand i suppose
If organisers don't like it, they should seed the groups based on recent performances and stop allowing self reporting of lift totals.
do you join this year static monster?
@@luthertju unfortunately not, I'll be in Japan this year and I couldn't find a gym hosting it there.
@@JacobCapper ah too bad, well there's still next year ✊✊
that's why he only does one snatch attempt. He has more time than anyone else to recover for the next lift
This is the classic, play the sport or the system argument.
After watched it the conclusion is he does not gain any unfair advantage on anyone. Seems like he just likes the vibe of B session. After all weigh lifting is one against the weight.
training with those coloured plates like they are fake plates. this guy is super strong!!!
orang indonesia memang cerdas, selalu mengakali cara untuk mendapatkan keuntungan, itu sudah mendarah daging di kita
What I see is a strong lifter highlighting a B category and hitting huge numbers that might push top athletes to go even heavier. If the top ones still have time to catch up it seems to be fine or he wouldn’t get the World Record medals anyway in B category.
this guy takes 11 mins to make a 1 point
If you win a world championship Olympics from whatever session, you should be obligated to be in the A session the following year for title defense. This dude would have done this 3 years in a row if he had actually tried for more than a 145kg snatch
Not Rahmat the lightest weightlifter, who achived the 200 kg. In the 80' Varbanov and Petrov achived this weight in the old 67,5 kg category. However that was the golden era for steroids ;)
Maybe working out who’s in the A or B session is what they have averaged/lifted and succeeded in there last 3 or 5 competitions they have entered.
Two minute story stretched to 10 minute video.
It's quite interesting to see how many loopholes there are in this sport.
