Assalaamualaykum brother, JazakAllah Khair for the video. What would you say is a good breakdown of costs to stay in Cairo for a month for a single person?
wa Aliekom Salam waRahmatullahi waBarakatuh It depends on the person: But say you are single and live in with others in an apartment Rent: $40-70 Utilities: phone, internet, electricity $25-40 Food: $80-100 Transportation: $50-80 Lessons: $80-150 Books: $10-100 (it really depends on the person and what they are needing to study and could be much more if they are building a solid library) So 400/mo is decent and this varies a lot depending on the person. Say he doesn’t eat out ever or only eats out; big difference. Say he uses tuktuks all the time and doesn’t walk… Say he doesn’t use public transportation and prefers Uber… big difference. Maybe he uses ac… huge difference. Maybe he wants fancy furniture and lots of stuff… Maybe he wants a nice apartment in front of the language center… Also note moving in takes a bit extra to get settled maybe 1k+ to get comfortable. So it’s important to plan for that
I make only ~$200 (after conversion from EGP), but I live with my parents so I don't pay for food or rent, and work from home. I'd imagine if I didn't live with my parents then this wouldn't be nearly enough. I guess ~$400 would be enough for a decent non-luxurious living (moderate rent, smart food choices, etc.)
السلام عليكم I live in Cairo with my family of 3 and we spend around 1000$ and honestly we live like kings here. Unfortunately the food and most of the stuff increased in prices around 4(!) times during the last couple of years. But yes it is still possible to study here if you have an income starting from $400 as our brother said. P. S. I am not considered a student of knowledge though, I work 9 to 5 online.

Beautiful journey and I pray that you achieve all the good that you imagine for yourself and who surrounds you and Allah SWT will increase it beyond your imagination to what you can imagine and what you cant and all for the best!! Your video popped up into my recommendation, I'm from Egypt originally and you're right, the situation is not the best but it's alot better than lots of places. But, I'm rooting for you in this beautiful journey and I hope you can enjoy the diverse Egypt moe frm Alexandria.
No one is asking you to out-right lie, and if you are prevented from doing work legally for simply living in a place, do you say I’m gonna pack up and leave? You obey the law in what is reasonable and if they prevent you from your god-given right then you are entitled to take it as long as that doesn’t create a greater harm (known as الظفر بالحق in books of fiqh). Technically, taxes are not permitted except with certain circumstances, but if Muslims in the west were to evade them wholesale that would create more serious problems so that is to be avoided. But to say anyone working without recording his income with the government is haram is totally out of hand. Instead it goes back to weighing the pros and cons. Wallahu alam
Assalamu alaikum brother I'll be in Egypt in April ideally for 2 years, studying. Can I get your WhatsApp brother ? I'd love to connect. I'm coming from the states.
