A lot of people saying that Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album are all the albums you really need to listen to from Jay Z. I can't help but throw American Gangster in that mix, I really enjoy that album and I feel that it's very cohesive too. I think Jay Z put a lot of effort into that particular record too. Just my two cents.
+Eron Constante I agree. Highly underrated album and probably his 2nd best album lyrically speaking behind Reasonable Doubt. Blueprint is my overall fav though just cos' of Kanye and Blaze's production and the way it meshes with Jay's Rhymes.
Lloyd Currie man you’ve got to LISTEN to jay z & dig deep into the lyrics... honestly man he’s a rappers rapper. Yes ! Only have Gang Star's Greatest Hits I was a big fan and young so I didn't hear Moment Of Truth but the other 3 are slept maybe not 2Pac that his best album 2 me but De La & Mecca are slept on heavy they classics
It's easily his best but to me the Slim Shady EP is track for track his best album, even if only for the reason that it's so damn short. Save the repeat tracks or radio cuts, there's absolutely no track on that EP that does't represent the absolute essence of classic Eminem. If you took out Cum on everybody and My fault and simply inserted Murder Murder and No One's Iller, the Slim Shady LP would be his undisputed masterpiece. Can't for the life of me even begin to think of what the execs thought when they cut those two tracks
Zecariah Aden Ya no doubt, everything about that album feels technically better. But there's a certain element to it that i feel was lost with the progression, something was just more playful or less industry impacted on his debut LP, like his follow up needed to more voracious. I'm just saying, if those couple of songs had made the cut onto the album, that would've been an absolutely indisputable masterpiece
JUNE 25 2024 ON THIS DAY IN HIP HOP HISTORY JUNE 25 1996 28 YEARS AGO JAY-Z RELEASED REASONABLE DOUBT ALBUM THE FACT IT WAS 28 YEARS LATER AND STILL A CLASSIC ALBUM OF ALL TIME 💿
I didn't hear this album until 2006. Can I Live and Feelin It are in my top 15 all time. Those are my I'm the shit I'm just doing me records and always help me through rough days.
I going to listen to Supreme & Linx to see if I think classics or just hype its funny I love Liquid Swords more than Cuban Linx but fuck it Im coke up their classics
Myke is tripping, Feelin' It is the shit. Regrets is the best joint on here. This album is undoubtedly one of rap's best, yet mainstream people don't seem to rank it up there with Illmatic and others when it should be
@@sleeperino3054I think what he meant is that sonically reasonable doubt is more mainstream friendly cause he had Mary j blige on there the woman singing the hook on Feelin it , you had the song with foxy brown….while this album is darker & more introspective then illmatic in terms of production & hooks reasonable doubt Is more accessible because of the features & the production
@@sleeperino3054illmatic has more appeal to hip hop heads cause lyrically Nas paints himself as a regular hood guy with a head on his shoulders on this album and the production is more dusty boom bap style…there’s no singer on the hooks it’s just straight up bars & storytelling….illmatic is a more straightforward album while reasonable doubt tries to do alot…Jay also had wordplay & storytelling but he wanted this album to be more then that so it’s more versatile then illmatic…more flows (since Jay was transitioning from that fu schnickens flow to a more nas , biggie & ghostface killah type flow so he’s bringing you best of both worlds when it comes to flows) more double entendres then nas & the production is more versatile as well….lyrically taking inspiration from only built 4 Cuban linx in terms of the mafioso style…I like illmatic better as a whole because to me reasonable doubt has weak points…but when Jay is at his most clever & introspective then you could argue those moments are better then anything on illmatic…I disagree with that take because to me the storytelling on illmatic is just god tier but I wouldn’t argue with it…because there is a solid base to this take…I would put those 2 albums at the same level…they have different strengths so I think it’s just a matter of taste but in terms of how good they are I mean those 2 albums are top 10 hip hop debuts of all time
The way dude was talking about the original "Dead Presidents" is how I felt about the original version of "Who you wit". The third verse of the original "Who you wit" is incredible.
This album is so dope because instead of telling a traditionally repetitive and cliché mafioso story like every other album it its niche, this tells the rise and fall in the most captivating and realistic way.
I'd put Reasonable Doubt on par with Illmatic but maybe that's just me. They both where story driven albums the only difference to me is their difference in flow and lyrics. Nas' flow is slower and his bars are easily understood and dope like not a lot of hidden meanings but dope enough to stand out without anything extra. While Jay-z's flow fluctuates a lot from a medium pace to fast pace and back. And his lyrics are dope in a different way, they are more witty and he has double entadres and things you have to think about to understand. Bottom line, in my opinion those are my 2 favorite albums of all time. Also I'm almost 100% with everything Mike said on this one. And I agree Jay was on par with biggie on Brooklyn's finest and their flow was great together, I really wish they got to make an album together.
I agree with u on that. It's the same reason why people like Kendrick Lamar's GKMC over Section.80 with how on Illmatic Nas seems to be observing and telling us what he sees versus Jay actually being bout that life and taking action. Illmatic is still a great album though.
Donovan Taggart that's a nice way to put it. Yah section 80 was more from outside looking in and Kendrick talking through his whole era and peers while GKMC was much more personal and introspective
The coolest insight I've seen about this album, is from Jay himself. He was saying how people think this album is him glorifying the hustle game and "you can't knock the hustle" meaning how we make our money. But, it was actually the reverse. He was depicting the excesses and foolishness of the hustle. And "can't knock the hustle" and other joints was actually aimed at the people knocking him in the street for jumping into the music. Made me go back and listen to it in reverse. He embodied it best, to me, on 22 Twos... "You never ready. Forever Petty minds stay petty. Mine is thinking longevity, until I'm 70, livin' heavenly... Fuck felony after felony." I never listened to that line in that way, until I heard him express that misconception....Then I appreciated D'Evils, Regrets, Can I Live and other joints eeven more than I already did.
Yoo DEHH! Much love for how u all are giving the oportunity for the new school on your reviews and glad to see that the Classic ones have a place there to. Continue that work, u guys are for sure the best out there reviewing hip hop. Keep it truth! And one more thing fellas, try not to sleep on Mick Jenkins. The kid is fire, from chi-town! Try to support his last mixtape ( Water[s] ), is such a dope work. Def one of the best mixtapes since Acid Rap. Bet lot of people would like a review on that!
I personally think Aquemini is better just based off of Return of the G, Da Art of Storytelling 1 & 2 and Liberation on there own. Aquemini also had the perfect blend of the Andre's weird lyrics and Big Boi's gangsta lyrics.
reasonable doubt is my favorite jay album, every single song is fucking great. Can I Live and D Evils are my all time favorite jay songs, but I will say, I kinda got sick of "aint no nigga"
I always am exited and enjoy my when you guys review a classic album, I'm younger so obviously this album wasn't my introduction to jay z but when I heard this I immediately regretted not listening to it. Jay z flow is increadible and unique production was defenitely great and fit so well with jay z rapping. my favorite song was can't knock the hustle, and as far as biggie vs jay z on that track while I liked biggies verse more jay z wasn't that far from being as good. I'm really glad modest media was in this review it's always interesting to hear his opinion especially on a jay z album and that's part of why I love these reviews cause all of the diffrent opinions brought to the table, keep it up!
RD had impact to the dopeboys and aspiring dopeboys out on the corners of the trap neighborhoods. It was the soundtrack to our lives. It was like he was telling you his take on his environment and expressing the mentalities in and around him, but as the perspective of a leader. It just hit home for those on their 25th hour of pitching rocks on the block.
Yes. It should. It changed hip-hop since everyone tried to become a 50 cent lol. Only one who was different during those times in Hip-Hop culture was Andre 3000.
Great review as always guys! One of my favorite albums of all time here and I enjoyed hearing you guys talk about it. Beezy coming with the realness. Gotta love it!
I'm only 20 so forgive me. I heard Reasonable Doubt for the first time about 4 years ago...I was blown completely away. I always liked Jay Z growing up in Brooklyn but his lyricism on this album was crazy. My personal favorites are Politics as Usual, Brooklyn's Finest, and Cashmere Thoughts. And I agree with Ken on the production aspect of RD. I think that gets overlooked a little. The samples that were used for this album were really well put together. The album almost feels like a good gangster movie concept.
This is one of the only Jay albums I can really enjoy. (Black album, American gangster included). Reasonable Doubt - every single song is on point, I watch the videos and I'm still in awe.
Give DEHH a great album and watch BEEZY come alive!!! Great review! "It gets tedious, so I keep my eye open like CBS...You see me stressed, right? Can I live?" Jay Z
Classic Album Review Wish List: -Outkast-Stankonia -Eminem-The Eminem Show -Kanye West-Graduation -Mos Def-Black On Both Sides -Wu Tang Clan-36 Chambers -Souls of Mischief-93 'Til Infinity No rush. Take your time gentlemen. I appreciate your contribution to hip-hop!
As far as Jay-Z albums are concerned. Reasonable doubt, Blueprint 1, and Black Album are it. Tried getting into the other albums and didn't dig them A track here or there, but that's it. And i very rarely listen to any of those 3 albums mentioned above anymore. I should re-listen to this one again after this review! DEHH always bringing up good points about these classic albums.
Beezy was incredible during this review, seems so much more passionate about old school rap. Thanks for the review, personally I still would like to see Doggystyle or Doggfather reviewed. I'm a huge Snoop fan and appreciate his transformation. Chronic or All Eyez on Me would be great to hear as well. I'm still down for that Death Row sound!
THE ONLY ONE THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT IS OL GIRL. I CLEARLY REMEMBER WHEN REASONABLE DOUBT CAME OUT ... IT WAS WRITTEN CAME OUT ABOUT A COUPLE WEEKS AFTERWARDS BUT , I REMEMBER PUTTING ALL EYEZ ON ME DOWN BECAUSE HOV WAS SPITTIN SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND SMOOTH ! 10/10 RATING !!!
So one of the reviewers said "Illmatic didn't have that kind of impact when it dropped"??? WHAT?? Either you didn't know much about hiphop at that time, or you're just ignorant to do your research. It had INSTANT impact as it dropped, although not succesfully as it only did 60,000 in its first week. But the whole hiphop world woke up when that album dropped. It sparked everyone up, got the first 5 mics from The Source Magazine, etc.
Fantastic video fellas...my only gripe is when you guys said this album was mafioso. I don't think it is. This is told from the perspective of a hustler there is a difference. What made reasonable doubt so special is the fact that it was told from that angle and it was believable. Jay didn't glorify selling dope like others did. He showed you the dark side of it as well. Feefo was right. Jay has stayed the same personality wise. His subject matter hasn't really changed he talked about hustling then and he talks about hustling now....its just a different hustle. Reasonable doubt is better than ob4cl in my opinion because of the emotion and honesty of it. Great review fellas and I think all of you guys are great. Keep up the good work.
With 3 clear classics (Black album,Blueprint,Reasonable Doubt) 2 great albums (American Gangster, Hard knock Life) How is Jayz not the greatest of all time to more people 😒😒😒😒
Well you said that about Ghost ,Nas ,Pac,cube and Busta they all have very classics or near but classic but I think ghost and Nas are tied . But Reasonable Doubt is far from classic my opinion .
Because Nas has 3 classics (Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic), 3 great albums (God's Son, Life Is Good, I Am) and Rakim has 4 classics (Paid In Full, Follow The Leader, Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em, Don't Sweat the Technique) and another great album with the 18th Letter.
I agree with Ken on this one I remember when the album came out it really didn't make that much impact on the rap game he kind of just Blended in with the rest of the crowd
+Music Guru Nah man I'm with you on that, I also liked American Gangster over Reasonable Doubt. RD is his third best album personally, The Blueprint is fourth.
Love the album, love the review it'd be cool if you guys reviewed these too: 2pac- me agaisnt the world Eminem- mmlp N.W.A- straight outta Compton Snoop dogg- Doggystyle There's plenty of other albums I love from the golden age of hip hop but those would be some of the top (and yes I know mmlp was in 2000 and I guess technically not golden age but its still a good album goddamn it)
Blueprint did start off Just Blaze & Kanye West careers, and IMO killed the routine Jay Z's discography had after vol.2 (1998-2000) which is a good thing.
Why didn't you guys review the album the people voted for on your site. I just checked again and it's Slum Village's Fantastic Vol.2. Still waitin for that
Dope intro!!!!
Thanks brruh! Roderic Wright and Raq Rav did their thing.

Dynasty was good, but Vol. 3 was my least favorite album.
+dankiel memelife I dunno man I just thought it lacked depth compared to the rest of his discog. Vol. 1 I thought was fantastic.
Lloyd Currie I agree completely! Production was awesome but this is one of the weakest albums lyrically from Jay
Lloyd Currie man you’ve got to LISTEN to jay z & dig deep into the lyrics... honestly man he’s a rappers rapper.
Dead End Hip Hop, you guys are great, really enjoying the vids. Keep up the great work. Also I agree, Jay-Z's best song is "Can I Live"!
Classic review Madvillainy. One of the few classic hip hop album to come out in the mid 2000's
Capital Punishment next?
i'd be down for that
YES I'd love to hear their opinion on that
Yeah you guys should definitely review capital punishment next
Yes ! Or Supreme Clientele or Black Star
review big l the big picture
Is The College Dropout eligible for a classic review?
Yes. It should. It changed hip-hop since everyone tried to become a 50 cent lol. Only one who was different during those times in Hip-Hop culture was Andre 3000.
definitely
Arsenal K DOOM takes that spot for me but Andre 3000 is really unique too
@@ProfessorCDO Before 50 Cent hip hop was already fruity...
Man I hEard this when I was 13 I'm 15 now and it's one of my favorites ever.
Give DEHH a great album and watch BEEZY come alive!!! Great review! "It gets tedious, so I keep my eye open like CBS...You see me stressed, right? Can I live?" Jay Z
Classic Album Review Wish List:
-Outkast-Stankonia
-Eminem-The Eminem Show
-Kanye West-Graduation
-Mos Def-Black On Both Sides
-Wu Tang Clan-36 Chambers
-Souls of Mischief-93 'Til Infinity
No rush. Take your time gentlemen. I appreciate your contribution to hip-hop!
Do MMLP or aquemini or it's dark and hell is hot!
Or tupac me against the world
Also capital punishment
Or mos def black on both sides
Also I know I'll get a lot of hate but carter 2
As far as Jay-Z albums are concerned. Reasonable doubt, Blueprint 1, and Black Album are it. Tried getting into the other albums and didn't dig them A track here or there, but that's it. And i very rarely listen to any of those 3 albums mentioned above anymore. I should re-listen to this one again after this review! DEHH always bringing up good points about these classic albums.
To me, "Reasonable Doubt" was incredible the 1st time I heard it and has only got (much) better since.
I knew Jay was something to check ,when hearing his verse with the group original flavor
keep it up with these classic videos im young to im 16 i wasnt around when hiphop was at its purest form
Each guy should do a solo review of their favorite or one of their favorite albums of all time. That would be dope
Great classic review. Why I love this channel. Gotta put this shit on tonight.
Feelin it is the shit!
liquid swords or Madvillainy next please
iTechmen1 a lot better than this
Review Relapse next... Not necessarily a classic, but its a really polarizing album lol
Its garbage
Great album, probably his most underrated album.
Craig Roddy
Completely agree.
I loved this album... it is competing as my favorite Em album with SSLP and MMLP lol
Love that album besides maybe 1 or 2 albums that was the only other album I remember really loving by him.
I fucking love these classic reviews. Do an old Eminem album !
Oh and review Mick Jenkins - The Water[s]. Came out yesterday
Great vids..never went any deeper than the hits with Jay Z..liked those tracks back in the day..doesn't exist on my radar anymore.
“But one of these buyers got eyes like a Korean, it’s hard to read em, the windows to his soul were half closed I put the key in”
LIFESTLYEZ OV DA POOR & DANGEROUS
Facts
With 3 clear classics (Black album,Blueprint,Reasonable Doubt) 2 great albums (American Gangster, Hard knock Life) How is Jayz not the greatest of all time to more people 😒😒😒😒
Because Kanye West was born om Earth
Hows jayz a sellout..
Well you said that about Ghost ,Nas ,Pac,cube and Busta they all have very classics or near but classic but I think ghost and Nas are tied . But Reasonable Doubt is far from classic my opinion .
U crazy man..Reasonable Doubt is an easy classic
Because Nas has 3 classics (Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic), 3 great albums (God's Son, Life Is Good, I Am) and Rakim has 4 classics (Paid In Full, Follow The Leader, Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em, Don't Sweat the Technique) and another great album with the 18th Letter.
Damnit! Mike is buzz killer every time I see these reviews! Especially that comment about Mary J!! I mean really you felt that way?
I can see why these dudes didn't appreciate it at the time. It was for us guys making moves in ES and q45s. constant rotation that Summer
I agree with Ken on this one I remember when the album came out it really didn't make that much impact on the rap game he kind of just Blended in with the rest of the crowd
When are you guys gonna review the new Under Achievers album?
Low End Theory sometime in the future?
Finally! The song modest media was referring to is coming of age.. N part 2
politics as usual was my shit and cashmere thoughts.
I might be the only one to like The Black Album over Reasonable Doubts.
+Music Guru Nah man I'm with you on that, I also liked American Gangster over Reasonable Doubt. RD is his third best album personally, The Blueprint is fourth.
I like the black album over the blueprint but not reasonable doubt lol American gangster is underrated as well
Ahmed A.Q You entitled to your opinion
+Music Guru I prefer The Blueprint to both :x
Versio Yea it had some hits on I really like "Heart Of The City" off that project.
Jay's best album in my opinion
I love the classic reviews hopefully you guys get around to Capital Punishment. Great job guys.
Yall gotta review some Southern Classics like Ridin Dirty, Comin' Out Hard, Aquemini, The Diary, Stankonia
Love the album, love the review it'd be cool if you guys reviewed these too:
2pac- me agaisnt the world
Eminem- mmlp
N.W.A- straight outta Compton
Snoop dogg- Doggystyle
There's plenty of other albums I love from the golden age of hip hop but those would be some of the top (and yes I know mmlp was in 2000 and I guess technically not golden age but its still a good album goddamn it)
I personally prefer The Blueprint. The songs are just that much better. Like Myke said, the hooks on RD just kill the vibe for me.
Blueprint did start off Just Blaze & Kanye West careers, and IMO killed the routine Jay Z's discography had after vol.2 (1998-2000) which is a good thing.
I think the Black Album was better than Blueprint
Why didn't you guys review the album the people voted for on your site. I just checked again and it's Slum Village's Fantastic Vol.2. Still waitin for that
I've been waiting for this one for a while.
Beezy is too REAL !!
"The number one question is can the feds get us?" Love this line
Ces Cru's Codename: Ego Stripper.
PLEASE review this. It's fire. And I mean FIRE.
Like, Kobe vs. Raptors on fire.
Can y'all review Black On Both Sides next by the mighty Mos Def(Yasiin Bey). That album still is ill.
👏👏
That thumbnail is beautiful
More classic album reviews please! I would love to see y'all review 36 Chambers
You guys should review Criminal Minded next.
For the first time ever.... I OFFICIALLY all the way AGREE with FEEFO
