Why Sauber's 2024 Stake F1 car is so 'aggressive'

- It’s a new year, officially a new name, and a self-described aggressive new car for Sauber’s F1 team for its huge rebrand, that will bridge the gap to Audi’s debut in a couple of years’ time.
The Stake F1 Team C44, to give this car its full title, has a bright new colour scheme to mark the switch from Sauber’s Alfa Romeo era to the start of this two-year Audi transition.
But the boldness goes well beyond running a bright green highlighter across a carbon base, as this car has some catching up to do in F1’s super competitive midfield, and to ensure these vital two years are not wasted for team co-owner Audi ahead of its own official 2026 entry.
There are plenty of changes we can see already that are aimed at achieving that.

Thank you! I can't believe how popular this livery design is. The colour scheme is ok, but 2 colours isn't enough to make a decent livery (in my opinion), especially when one of those two colours is black. Not to mention the actual design is god awful. It has a green staircase on the side. It's incredibly generic, and leaves a lot to be desired. Beyond that, Stake is an AWFUL company. The only nice thing I can say about it, is at least it's a new colour scheme on the grid. Beyond that, it's a dud.

That’s a cool way to look at it. William’s lead James Vowles was supposed to be Toto Wolff’s Mercedes heir, so maybe they can use some new tricks. Hope Alphatauri starts fielding Red Bull clones every year so we can see four drivers working together in equal machinery
Miss early 2000 livery. Blue and Petronas teal color are perfect. Plus yellow Redbull/White Credit Suiss
2005 Sauber Petronas livery and 2006 BMW SAUBER PETRONAS livery are still iconic till this day.😢
Key's main usage of the words "extreme, risky, brave" etc. really highlights why Stella/McLaren thought he was holding back development due to his risk averse nature that simply doesn't suit an ambitious F1 team who needs to keep up with the rapid development curve.
Looking at the Sauber racing cars designed by James Key in the past, you can't speak of risk avoidance🙄

Carbon fibre is lighter than painted CF. Last year Daniel explained tge RB probaly gained .4 a lap due to paint saving on weight v the alpha tauri. I see a darker AT this yeat
finally a little color! front view is the best. I think, stake is taking advantage of the fact gambling sponsors arnt very restricted yet. I think it'll be similar to how tobacco brands got phased out (sort of) they will find loopholes to promote their brand I'm sure, like marlboro did with mission winnow.
It reminds me of the Tracing Point pink in that you won’t mistake it for anything else.
the lack of major sponsors is painfully obvious, i counted 12 stake logos and almost all of them are in major sponsor positions

Amount of sponsors does not matter as long as the budget they bring is enough
I love the green, it’ll be easy to spot on the grid. Granted I would’ve been happy with any color besides all white or all black.

That seems like a bold statement. I guess he could have meant it as a "from where we came from" thing but then it wasn't communicated very clearly. Somehow I doubt they'll be competing for race wins but I guess we'll see.
Edit: I guess he could also mean that they've made the design as flexible as they could since he went on to talk about further development.
Love sharp fresh looking liveries. As a Red Bull fan I would love a new livery of some sorts. Adding more wide on side body and nose. The one from Japan a few years ago was awesome!

Sauber has been in F1 for years, even through the bad years. The notion that none of you Andretti screechers seem to understand that really says a lot.

@@DoctorTauri Listen, it doesn’t matter what the scrutiny for Sauber or Haas’ entries went through or didn’t. Sauber has been around for decades, and Haas entered after several teams imploded and F1 looked like an awful money pit. They stuck through it despite all of the pitfalls that came with being a F1 team. I want Andretti too, I’m just not about to act like every team below P5 in the constructors doesnt deserve to be there. lil bro.

The Stake Sauber C44 hopefully could challenge for top 5 finishes regularly. The car looks gorgeous.
Honestly the more i look at it the more i'm digging the green and black combo, gives me Kawasaki vibes. Makes a nice difference then another shade of red/blue other teams go for.
Given Sainz could go anywhere at this point, I think everyone should be stepping up their game this szn, especially Zhou and Bottas. If Stake can bring a good car like they hope, I feel like it'll be real interesting to see if those two become dangerous.

Speaking on their drivers - I recall how great a mentor Bottas was to Zhou in his first year, but I think now it’s clear that there’s a slim chance that either of them make it to Audi and Bottas needs to go gloves off and ensure it’s him
One good thing about if Zhou gets an Audi seat is that finally fewer people would just assume they are going to be great right from the start.

I think that Red Bull would be foolish to change much in such an incredibly successful car. But teams that have struggled have nothing to lose with big changes, and they have two years of evidence of what works. I expect the field will be even closer this year, with surprises, and the gap to Red Bull will be closer, if not outright closed.
Don't get your hopes up, Red Bull will take both championships again.

And as brilliant as Max is, it’s kind of inexcusable that Checo could get second in the driver’s championship while driving as badly as he did last year, purely on the strength of the car. Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso both ate him alive on the quality of their driving, but couldn’t catch him despite having competitive cars relative to the rest of the field.

IDK last time a team rebranded and went highlighter on a bare bone background for a completely new aggressive car before being bought by a german manufacturer it went pretty well.
If I won a nickel everytime a rebranded team with a highlighter color on a barebone background who is going to be bought by a German manufacturer raced in F1, I would have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Looking forward tot he progress but it will be weird that both drivers likely wont stay for 2025 as they will be looking at faster options
(This is just my opinion not a hate comment)I honestly don't know why people keep saying this car looks bad. Its honestly good. Not just that I do think exposed carbon fibre looks good, especially on F1 cars. And the Green as well gives it that kick. (No that is not a pun to the "KICK" sponsor they have) If anything I'd say all the cars with the exposed carbon fibre look astronomical. Alpine has pulled it off the best with I'd say the most colours on their car, out of all the teams so far, and the fact they mixed it in with the black is truly amazing.
I have been saying this from December watch this space. Don't be surprised if Williams and Stake both all of a sudden are fighting for top 10. I know for a fact that they are a challenge for Aston Martin and alpine and even Mercedes

CONT. I would love it if F1 took the WEC Hypercar approach to the rules and allowed teams more freedom on design (excluding power units) and use aero BOP to keep competition fair. WEC enforces a budget cap so no different to F1 but unlike F1 you get to see a varied field of Hypercars with big, muscular Toyotas vs. low, sleek Ferraris vs. no rear winged Peugeots all racing closely under tight restrictions on max downforce loads, min drag coefficients, peak DRS efficiency and overall wake production.
Very excited to how this team will perform. Been a fan of them since Kimi came back, the Alfa livery from 2018-2022 were the most beautiful in the field and I bought a lot of Alfa Romeo F1 merch. Sad that the partnership with Alfa ended with not much except Charles' first year and the not bad 2019 season.
Hope they succeed but the sponsors in F1 for 2024 scream more "pay to win" than in any other sport and that's a very wrong direction our beloved sport goes. As if that sport isn't filled enough with money since it exists
Bottas also now has to show more. In 2023 he often was invisible and in many races you didn't even recognized he was taken part of the race. His performance needs to get better or there's no chance for him to get a cockpit in 2026 in that team
For me, the partnership with Alfa Romeo ending was a good thing. I won't have to cope with that legendary brand being at the back of the grid fighting for non-point paying positions. IMO, Alfa not racing is better than Alfa being uncompetitive.
The floor does look quiet aggressive though
