Masterful as usual, sir! I passed on this kit a few times but watching your build sold me on it and I had to order a couple. Thanks for sharing your work and the process!
WOW!! I love lights! It looks so realistic with these explosions. I am glad that there is some talent still left in this world. Thank you for sharing this with us. I bought the Rogue Squadron not knowing what to expect but when I saw this tiny X-wing I was thinking that I would simply resell it on evilbay, but I built it and painted it and now it is one of my favourite builds and I love the look of it! Of course I have references so that it will be a lot more accurate than most peoples' models. I took my time with it and I have to make some decals for the laser canons then I can call it done. Thank you for sharing your vision and your talent with us. It is truly inspiring.
Really nice explanation of the explosion/fire fx Oggie. Thanks for that- I’m trying to get up my courage to try something like this for the first time.
Thank you Thomas, I appreciate the compliment. Yes for sure give it a shot. Sometimes there's a little trial and error with making the explosions look right. Some people can make them really look amazing. I still need to practice more with the technique. Thanks for watching.
@AdamWayneone Thanks for watching...and for the challenge. The model fits perfectly on my shelf as is so I'm afraid I'll have to pass but look forward to what you end up doing with it. :)
Turned out very well. I like your X-wing fire effect as you went with a different method and effect than I did. These are really great little kits for building dioramas with as I have a few more planned with the small AT-M6, the 1/144th AT-ST, and the small 350th scale Millennium Falcon that I have lit as well as one that I posted a while back with the tiny Imperial Star Destroyer that I lit. You can also pick up the Death Star Attack set at Hobbylinc for around $30.00, around $40.00 with shipping included. Again fantastic work on your diorama. Thanks for the shout out.
Thank you Jim.....as you saw I mentioned your cool diorama at the beginning fo the video :) Totally agree...these kits are great. Hey thanks for all your help and for your kind words.
You are welcome and I'm working for something for the Apollo 11 50th anniversary that is approaching, so I haven't gotten around to posting the finished K'tinga or anything else. Hope to get to all that very soon.
Outstanding Oggie - I was dubious about the downed X-Wing fire effect but looks awesome when lit. You really encourage me to get my kits out and finish them off!
Beautiful work there! Splendidly well done! I don't really get to assemble model kits anymore...I lack shelf space, which is largely taken up by pre-built, pre-crafted miniatures like Fantasy Flight Games ships for Star Wars X-Wing, Star Wars Armada, and Star Wars Rebellion. However, I do find that the model pieces, and sometimes the usually nicely detailed instruction sheets that come with the Bandai kits make for excellent texture sources because I like to make 3D CG models in Blender.
Really nice build, and amazing results on the paint and lighting. The downed X-Wing looks a bit odd at first, but really comes alive with the lighting - great job on that.
Beautiful job! About the only thing I can fault the basic kit on is the Exhaust Port tile being from the 1/72 X-Wing originally is too big for a 1/144 set, although the turret which was originally provided with the 1/72 A-Wing is about right. So the target area is a bit bigger than two meters wide. Love what you have done with it though!
Great work and the lighting looks absolutely amazing! I´m just about to build some 1/72 kits, three TIE fighters are finished, next I´m going to start with the X- and Y-Wing (also Bandai).
Try adding fiber optic tubing slightly around the explosion in a "flower shape" with the cotton explosion in the center. The led will light the explosion but also the fiber optics to look like an explosion with sparks also. Try a couple samples and see which is best. Good luck
Thanks...yep I've used flickering ones as well. Did have enough on hand here but I think they're a good choice to go with for simulated explosions. Thanks for watching and for your kind compliment.
Thanks...and yeah I'm afraid that's all that was included. No doubt the stickers are meant for beginning modelers but sure would've been nice to include regular decals too. The ones I ended up using worked out quite well thank goodness. Thanks again Bob for your compliment.
just be careful using it. Make sure you use a clear coating (acrylic, enamel or lacquer) to protect the plastic. I found out the Bandai plastics don't always agree with the Mig solutions. Thanks for the comment
@11:05 -- Artistic license! (It's fine -- it's your project/toy, enjoy your own customization. I'm not that anal and Lucasfilm wasn't either. No two models of the SAME ship were exactly alike!.) There were no Blue Squadron X-wings in the Battle of Yavin. Most of the Blue Squadron was wiped out at the Battle of Scarif. Of course, if you've read the novelization of Star Wars, the Marvel Comics adaptation, or the original script, Luke's squadron was originally called Blue Squadron before the issue of the blue screen process for the special effects reared its ugly head. Some of the surviving X-wing models from the original Star Wars showed signs of blue striping on them, too.
the Bandai kits are a great way to spend time with your 7yo. They're easy to build and don't require adhesives or paint for that matter. Many of us modelers will paint them up because we want more details but they are able to constructed without doing so. The often come with colored pieces and options for decals. If you can build Legos, you can build Bandai. Give it a shot, I highly recommend it. Thank you for watching
Awesome job! Love your personal mods to this kit! I recently watched a vid where a nano terrarium was levitated with one of those magnetic display bases. X-Wing defying gravity in this kit would look wild. Don’t know if it’s been done, but I’m sure it has? Maybe for the Death Star kit it would work? IDK? Just a thought? Your diorama came out incredible! Love It!
I thought about that but didnt think it would look too realistic. I plan to eventually replace the cotton balls with expandable foam at some point. Thanks for watch and I appreciate your kind compliment
@@cartercook79 Each kit runs about $30+ which is another reason why I chose not to extend the set. So with everything going on with the quarantine I am looking into getting into SW Bandai models. Any recommendation for tools and which set or two I should start with? As a beginner?
Hi...it all depends on how much detail you want to add to these models. You can build them without paint, glues/adhesives. In that case I would just get a sprue cutter and nail files. If you want to do more detailing the sky's the limit but you would need something to apply paints such as spray cans....I would recommend Tamyia sprays because they emit finer mists. My recommendation, start simple, get a sprue cutter and nail files (nothing fancy). Piece it together from the box. The Snow Speeder, A Wing, X Wings or a Tie Fighter are a good start. See how it goes. If you want to start adding battle damage, scorching and such, let me know and I can advise further. Hope that helps.
WOW!! A GREAT Job on something Many of us SW fans would like to build....including me!! Thanks again for giving ALL details from paints, decals, wiring and how to apply this stuff, did you use to work for Lucusfilms??!!
Don't bother buying decals. Just scan them into your PC, print them off, spray with clear gloss, or flat cleat coat. Let them dry, cut them out and apply. Just remember to use decal paper... it works. I've done it several times. The gloss or clear coat seals the ink, so that it won't run. You can apply multiple coats, if you want. More that one coat is always a safer way, to prevent ink bleeding. Try it...
Yes I've printed my own numerous times and unfortunately it's been hit and miss. I frequently have a problem with the ink staying on the decal when placing them onto the model. I own an inkjet and I've come to find the best printer for decals are laser printers. Thanks
I've heard different stories about the tolerance of the plastics of Bandai kits to enamel. I've heard they can weaken the plastic. Does it HAVE to be an enamel?
That is true. I have encountered this issue especially with the soft plastic joints they use with their figure models. I've not had any issues with their styrene so far.
