Bandai Death Star II: amzn.to/2C9LUJ5
When I first saw the notification I imagined a large model. Watching the vid I didn't expect it to be this scale! Cutest Death Star in the galaxy.
Fun vid. Thank you.
The detail is pretty damn good for a kit of this size.
@@modelchili yeah it's a great little kit
Bjørn Halfhand ................but fully operational Death Star :)
@@plasticmuddler7022 it'd be lethal to pumpkins and watermelons and pumpkin and watermelon sized planets.
You shall double your efforts, the Death Star WILL be completed on schedule.
Their cruisers can't repel firepower of that magnitude!
@@modelchili You have done well, Lord Vader!
The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am
The Emperor is agree with you.
IT'S A TRAP!
Shame it wasn't molded so the seam lines just match the equator trench.
Great to see you building another kit, I was a bit surprised at how small the kit was but that paint job really made it pop, Thank you Sam.
Cheers!
Really thoughtful build - and I appreciate you capturing all the details and describing your choices. Beautifully done.
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. 👍
dude i loved this video so much, i love the fact theres no annoying music and just straight to the point :)
Thank you! I try to keep them simple.
Finally The Death Star 2! I remembered requesting this one long long time ago!! Fantastic
Long long time ago... In a far away galaxy?
;-)
nice small easily displayed model, BUT, is it only me who'd like a metre in diameter one. . . ?, maybe two metres. . .
Yeah I know right!
I want one big enough to illicit the reaction from visitors "that's no moon"
richard timms even a globe sized one would be nice
Absolutely! Hopefully a bigger version is in the planning
Life size one
"IT'S A TRAP!'😲
Great job it turned out great!👍👍
Thanks!
You did a good job with that. I built one recently and also found that the fit was not perfect in places. This is noticable because it is such a small model that it gets examined in ultra close up. I ended up gluing the outer shell parts and doing some filling, which wasn't easy because the kit joints are skewed against the panel grids. I hope Bandai do a larger kit of this at some stage, because the intricacy of the unfinished sphere is intriguing. Maybe I would light that with tiny blue flickering LEDs to replicate welding torches in action!
Maybe use fiber glass cables. They look way better
Cheers! Yeah good point about the size, it makes any small imperfection stand out a lot.
@@omikron6218 yes, where a welding torch is seen directly I think a fibre optic strand would catch the eye more effectively. In the background, where for example you only wanted to suggest the reflection of a torch against a bulkhead, maybe an LED would give a more realistic "flickering glow" effect. I will experiment with this because I have always been fascinated with lifelike "under construction" models. Probably because I grew up reading the "Eagle" comic, which had a cutaway colour poster of a machine as its weekly centre spread.
Looks great mate.
Thanks 👍
Fully armed and operational! Great vid, very enjoyable! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
This kit looks like a lot of fun to build. I might pick up 2 or 3 just to try different painting techniques. Great job on the model.
Some of the best videos on RUclips. Always fascinating.
Thanks!
I never realised how open that thing was. But then again, it's been a few years since I've seen RotJ.
Looks good!
Thanks!
Nice job! Very satisfying build.
Looks like a fun quick build. Well done!
Cheers!
Thanks for making the lower surface areas lighter than the panels! You are the first person I've seen catch that correctly. As for which way to paint the model, per the studio model or screen appearance, since this model was based on the screen version which was flipped from the studio version, I'll probably for for screen colors as I won't be able to match it up to the studio model with everything on the wrong side.
Cheers! Ha yeah good point, it was flipped.
For such a small model the proof is going to be in the painting and you really mastered it on this! Great work!
Thank you!
Very nice work as always. I was surprised that you didn’t dry brush the interior highlights. That’s the cool thing about painting models. Everyone has their own methods. Keep up the awesome work.
Great build, and I needed to watch this as I have one to build too, so thanks for the tips, especially on the painting part of it. I'm now looking forward to doing my own, well, as soon as I can get a hose connection adapter for my new airbrush. Like your build video's.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice. Really nice. I agree with you on the seams but I really like it. Just today I brought home the small scale bandai at-st/ snow speeder kit, now I'm going to have to look this kit up as well .. great video .. thanks
🤘😎👍
Thanks for watching!
Nice catch on painting the recesses as brighter than the panels. That unsightly seam is a pain to clean up :(
I assembled mine before painting, and now it's really hard to paint some of the interior surfaces. Looks like a great kit on the surface, but hard to finish cleanly.
Thanks!
I was wondering on how do I paint the recessed/panel lines part of the outer wall! and you have great idea there. however, I want to clarify on how you do it: so you painted lighter color using hand brush, and erase the bleeding/overflowing color with acrylic paint eraser, is it?
also, about removing the nasty seam gaps, do you think it's a good idea if I do it like this:
1. paint the internals & assemble it
2. glue, sand, etc to fill the gap of the outer wall.
3. paint the outer wall
Love your work mate, it’s on a level
Thank you!
I love it. A great little fun model.
Like your detail work. I fortunately found this one in a toy store. I added a tiny bit of metal color, so it reflects the light like in the movie.
I just bought my first star wars model kit I’m super pumped to build the death star. Seems tough to get the small details accurate.
Great video. I’m about to start this kit, and really appreciate you’re take on painting it.
Thank you!
You are a good salesman. Now I need to buy this
This is a great video
Thanks!
Nice looking model sir. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I built this kit but I plan to do it again fresh.
I did a white wash for the panel lines which worked pretty good but my base coat was way too dark grey blue.
On my redo I’m going to try and fill all the gaps too because they’re pretty bad on this kit by Bandai standards.
That looks beautifully finished. The outer shell looks really well do e too with the lighter lines on the darker bas. That gives it some wonderful scale. Pity on the seam lines though, not like bandi to do that with their kits.
Thank you!
shoulda put some crazy electric blue around the power core
that is just the most adorable little model though! great vid!
Cheers!
"That's no moon, that's a glorified baseball."
it's to small to be a baseball.
@@chrismayer8601 when i saw that i died in laughter
A golfball size if i remember it
"That's no moon.... IT'S A TRAP!!"
Hey man! Just watched your Bandai Model Kit 501st Clone video and wanted to inform you that the Phase I you made is actually just a normal Clone Liutenant and Phase I Standard 501st Clones has slightly different markings 😊
Thanks for posting this, as I have the kit and am looking for ideas on how to do it. One thing I don’t understand is why you’d prime the exterior parts (laser dish, etc.), then spray dark grey, then spray lighter grey over it. Is there some depth effect, or mixing, which I can’t see in the video? Otherwise, seems like the primer could be the base color (or the light grey), then wash and dry brush.
Hello mr. Chill!thats a nice little gem you have created.thumb up!with sticky greetings.your modelmate. Christian
Thanks!
Very cool a few idea's in mind now for when I do mine up. I was thinking of lighting it in areas but not sure if it would be possible.
Great build
Cheers!
So excited to see your notification!
Hope you enjoy!
Had no idea this kit was out there. But I don't build Sci Fi , yet. I can't imagine what scale this would be. Hopefully reasonably priced. Kits today are expensive.Very nice build out, would be a nice winter weekend change.
As a right handed person, I always find it odd seeing a southpaw work on a kit. Just looks strange. Thanks for your great videos on these Bandai kits. Greetings from Oz.
Cheers! Thanks for watching. 👍
Hello✨ Great work 👍
Thank you 👍
For the external light grey panel lines,I have a tamiya panel line accent highlighter about that shade of grey.
This is why I watch RUclips for videos like this, I was like no don’t put a lighter paint in the panel lines but wow looks amazing
I would glue them together, then use some liquid green stuff to fill the gaps, remake the lines, voila, will look loads better.
It's often the problem with these kits, but not bad.
Wow...its looks great, your right about that gap, wondering if painting the equator a darker color to help offset the gaps?
Great job
Thanks!
its the ideal christmas tree topper
Yes!
Vellejo liquid putty is great for little penal lines its water based and will just run with capillary and you can layer it up and paint right over it..this will clean up those seems..and its grey!
When you seen made in Japan, you know it's quality product.
China is the best
Good job i like it.
Thanks!
Wow, that Death Star is tiny. I guess the Empire wasn't as big as we thought.
Eehhhhh, its upside down.....J/K. You did a Great job of painting, detail painting, highlights!!!
Thanks 👍
Been looking forward to a new video from you... thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
@@modelchili Buddy, you're the Bob Ross of model-building... keep up the good work 😎
@@paulkevinkoehler9490 lol if only I had the hair!
When Palpatine gave the order to Build a DeathStar on a tight schedule and they gave him this 😂
He was getting ready to build 10,000 tiny ones.
Fantastic kit! I’ve been waiting along time for a detailed Death Star 2 ...
The micro machine DS2 was pretty great... but it’s been over ten years since I’ve seen anything come close to the detailing..
As always great job .. shame they don't do a football sized one rather than a cricket ball size but then how much would that cost
I used Nuln oil by citadel colour
shading wash & a dry brushed highlight of light gray for the interior! Of this model worked just as good!
Thanks, Sam. I have this kit and I like your take on it. Does anyone ever tell you that you sound just like Korg from Thor Ragnarok?
Yes, many times. 👾
@@modelchili I hope you take that as a compliment, because Korg is one of my favorite characters.
@@JDsHouseofHobbies lol it's all good. It's either Jango or Korg, it's just the accent really.
Definitely a compliment to be compared to Taika!
This would look great on my Christmas Tree :)
Great idea!
Tiny, but I like it, nice one Sam 😉👍
Thanks Tim!
That looks really good. A lot better than the one I made. I two toned mine with the airbrush, but not the level of detail of yours.
Cheers!
fantastic and the price is no too bad
Thanks!
I have the bandai star destroyer and super star destroyer. I plan on getting the death Star as well.
I was looking at the star destroyer and super star destroyer 2 pack yesterday, what are they like to build?
It requires patience. Some parts are very thin and can break. The deflector shield domes for example mine broke off. But it's worth it. I love the details.
Hey you're back! I missed your content...
I know I don't post nearly enough!
Great model I expect it be bigger better be under 20.00 to buy for this scale
Did anyone else legit. think it was gonna be a LOT bigger, based on the thumbnail? No? Just me then! 😆😆😂😂😂
Awesome vid, as always! ❤️
Heh, that was the goal! 😉 Thanks!
I'm not a modelist myself, but i love to watch you building and paintying these crazy accurate models.
Do you plan to make Captain Harlock's Arcadia Wich was designed by the same Creator from Space Battleship Yamato ?
You did the possible. Now Jerjerrod doesn’t need to hire more men to finish the fully armed and operational battle station.
Your voice is so calming to me, also you sound like jango fett. Maybe liquid greenstuff would have fixed those lines?
Thanks ☺ Yeah some putty would fill the lines, but the build isn't stable enough to do that. If it were all glued solid it'd be possible.
Very cool model. Kinda of a bummer they textured the surface but I guess it would be a pain to mask off and add all the surface detail.
What glue did you use for final assembly and did you have to remove any paint, prior to gluing or did you mask off the points of glue contact?
Didn't use any glue 🙂
It's a cool model. I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't try to disguise the join lines better by making more irregular cuts following the contours of the panels, I found the dish the most difficult to try to paint like the reference.
I have this I got it with the star destroyer I didn't paint them though since I'm new to building models and don't have paints
I'm going to wait for the 1/25 scale model to go on the market.
Does anyone know where I can get several million gallons of battleship grey paint for a reasonable price?
Should have been 1/144 at a minimum so you could do a diorama using the other 1/144 ships Bandai made.
Loved it. You could build a full scale Death Star by the time I'd get to your level of skill.. 😁
You ask the impossible! I need more men. 😬
@@modelchili. 🤣🤣 Brilliant..
the best part is you don’t even have to build it to make it look like the death star 2 :)
Great work. I’ve been putting this one off. Did you post the list of paints you used?
Can you seam line it the same way like a gundam model?
I really like your work and I've been waiting to see something new. The paneling looks good for freehand work and for a model this size masking would IMO be overkill. Looking forward to your next project!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. 😃
Thanks to you, I enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching!
"Hey man, I'm Korg, this is Miik, we're gunna jump on that space ship and get outta here. Wanna come?"
Dry brushing the incomplete floor levels pieces would work better and faster than picking out individual levels with a tiny brush.
I don’t have any experience in spray paints. So can someone explain why you put multiple layers of different paint? Wouldn’t the first one, if you got the spots covered, cover up the original structure?
This makes me wanna buy my first kit and and all else then I remember I'm poor.
Sad trumpet noises
Very good 👍
Thanks!
If your putting this together sand down the pegs with rough sandpaper dont worry about how far they'll be covered anyways. This will eliminate those noticeable spaces. 😁
Was dry brushing not a issue? Looks great though.
No it went on fine.
You did a great job of the painting but I bet the bad fit is because of paint on the surfaces. I would try building first then painting now that I've seen your vid.. I think I'll get one of these to go with the tiny revell star destroyer I'm building. Thanks for the vid.
Colin Johnston - Just wanted to comment on this; did a build with my nephew, and it was a dry build (no paint) with just a black wash on top, and still had the gaps. Was hoping to hear how he fixed those gaps so I could do it on my personal model! Lol
Yeah would be very tricky to build first then paint, especially the interior sections.
looks good bro..
Thanks!
You could use a whole bottle of tamiya panel liner on this thing! good job you can use ink with thinners too. lol
wish it could be bigger --great job
Thanks!
not sure if i will get a reply but when i get mine would you suggest like a metallic gun metal paint with a wash or like a light grey with a dark wash?
I'd suggest light grey with a wash.
Wouldn’t it be easier to just drybrush the highlights onto the internal superstructure parts? Just picked this up along with the 1:1400 Star Destroyer.
It may just be me but that is absolutely adorable
No. It’s me too.
