What is the Gospel?

It seems that often we don’t share the full Gospel - we share the mechanism, but not the purpose. The mechanism of the Gospel is that Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for sin, and you’ll be saved if you believe He, 1) died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and 2) is the Son of God.
The purpose of the Gospel is that God has restored us to our identity as beloved sons and daughters and reconciled us back to relationship with Him. And this isn’t self-serving - quite the opposite! When we live in relationship with God as His beloved sons and daughters, 1) He is far more glorified than otherwise, and 2) we reflect His glory and His heart to a lost and dying world in need of the love of God and finished work of Jesus on the cross.
