What is the greatest form of worship? 🛐🙏🏻
The greatest worship is our heart posture in everyday life. It’s less about the big spiritual moments we have and more about how we live life and approach life, how we’re learning to react when things go wrong, how we treat enemies and those unkind to us, etc.
Ultimately, worship is a heart-posture thing. It’s not about being perfect, but it is about intentionally growing in living a consistently godly, faithful life. This is the truest worship we can offer, and we can all live this way!

Sanctification, the process of God making us holy and like Him, isn’t just about purifying our hearts and minds from sin, but healing our hearts and minds from brokenness. Sometimes, sin is in how we meet our ‘internal unmet needs’ - looking to porn, food, shopping, drugs, etc. to make us feel better or avoid processing pain, etc. But, we can retrain where and who we look to for help, and where...
Why we don’t want to read the Bible or pray… ⛔️📖🙏🏻
Просмотров 29Месяц назад
If we’re honest, we don’t always want to read the Bible or pray… Reflecting on why, I found, for me, it’s because I think of them as massive tasks that require loads of energy… And on days where my time, energy or willpower is lower, I just put them off… I now have different ways of engaging with God and His Word, including some ‘easier’ ways - such as Bible highlighting instead of Bible study....

What we feel can be the manifestation of subconscious beliefs. That is, they can let us know what’s going on in our souls. I share an example of something I’ve struggled with, which initially started as feeling stressed and pressured about something. But these feelings were a kind of physiological response, resulting from a lie that I believed about myself from previous mistreatment - a leftove...
Sometimes, sins are symptoms? 🦠🌡️

Sometimes, sins are symptoms of something unhealthy in your soul or life. Using impatience as an example, there are some more ‘indirectly spiritual’ things we can do to help! Firstly, a ‘just be more godly’ mindset is never helpful. Obviously. Secondly, reduce stressing stress, resting more (both our souls and bodies - society is awful at ‘soul rest’) and regular physical exercise meaningfully ...
The Church: Friendly vs family 🫶🏻
Просмотров 283 месяца назад
When we gather in our local Christian communities, do we see a group of people we like, and who like us, or a group of people we love, and who love us? One is sincere and well-meaning, the other is the Kingdom of God! I pray this is exactly the culture, though my experience says we're friendly but not family. But, we can help change the culture. If it’s not loving, God has us there for a reason...
Why we want to be judgmental 👨🏻⚖️🫵🏻
Просмотров 353 месяца назад
Have you ever noticed, the root of judgementalism is self-preservation? Because we’re not secure in our identity in Christ, we’re vulnerable to attack, so we must defend ourselves. And the best form of defence is attack. Being judgement is to attack others. So we degrade people’s value and withhold our love. The solution is to reflect on our and others’ identity in Christ and the love of God! T...
Has discipleship become optional? 🤔
Просмотров 267 месяцев назад
Discipleship has become optional… Wait, what?! The version of the Gospel preached at the moment is limited to describe how we’re saved, whereas Jesus said “Repent and believe,” “Deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow Me.” In fact, the whole NT preaches BOTH forgiveness of sin and commitment to holiness. We’ve taken the cost of discipleship out of the Gospel… Jesus, come be our everything,...
What heaven on earth also means 🕊️ 🌍

There’s also no complacency, unforgiveness, poverty or disunity in heaven… So we can expect them now too - including if it means we have to play an a...
How I’m combatting complacency with consecration in 2024

During a time of consecration, God has shown me how spiritually complacent I’ve become. A few years back, I was fasting lots and was way sharper spiritually, but I’ve slacked the last 2-3 years. I’m gonna start regularly consecrating myself (not limited to fasting), to crush this complacency I’ve allowed in. Why does God love us?

We're often told that God loves us, but do you know why He loves us, and how He can love us when we've sinned? God doesn't love us because of our works (our behaviour, performance, etc), He loves us because of His nature! He is love itself - that's why He loves! His love isn't about us, it's about Him - which is why it glorifies Him, not us. And the fact that He is love is unchanging, which mus...
What is the Gospel?

It seems that often we don’t share the full Gospel - we share the mechanism, but not the purpose. The mechanism of the Gospel is that Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for sin, and you’ll be saved if you believe He, 1) died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and 2) is the Son of God. The purpose of the Gospel is that God has restored us to our identity as beloved sons and da...

Such a good topic and so well put. I want to see the things of heaven manifesting on earth. But likewise I don't want to see the things in me that I know are not of heaven. Thank you.
Beautifully spoken. Its the little things that makes the bigger difference in growing closer to God and Im happy to have heard this today. God Bless you😇

Thank you for this James. I've just been in hospital for 3 weeks, during which the Lord spoke to me to enter into His rest. It's a comforting place to be. Then last night I received a revelation which I need to expand and write up. Praise the Lord for all He is doing in our lives. Hallelujah.

An honest self appraisal few would dare to examine in themselves. Well done James.
Amen, thanks Simon! Part of the point of putting things on RUclips is to model discipleship, so please pray this draws many people into a deeper place of intimacy and surrender!
1 Tim 1:5,19. Two indispensable assets.
Amen to these, through the Holy Spirit faithfulness is really achievable!
So good, James.
Thanks! 🙏🏻
What a vibe, great video James 🎉
Cheers bro!!
So good to see you James, growing in the ministry of evangelism in your measured way and fuller assurance. There is no other way for people to come to faith than we share the gospel.
Thanks for the encouragement Simon, I appreciate that. Amen, let’s keep praying for more workers in the harvest!
Vital questions James. Every church will tell you it's a friendly place, and superficially, they're always correct, but... I believe hospitality is key to depth of relationship. So is praying with people. The challenging thing is that you can be single & live in a bedsit, and do both.
Amen 👌🏻
James, I really like what you are doing. Asking these questions is important. I believe that the small group involvement is fundamental, then trustworthy leadership. If each person is involved and contributing then being led by the Holy Spirit leads to exciting prospects of great revival. Hallelujah!
Amen Simon! Living in community, which could be done through small groups(?), is the biblical model and the way to church being family. We have to surrender our time being ‘ours’ and the notion that when we’re at home we have the right to ‘lock the world outside.’ So interesting to think through. God is always working in His Bride so I’m excited to see what happens in my lifetime!
I pray for all our RUclips's every making them succeed and reach our goals that we reach the man's country cities and states and those that God need us to reach that he may bless us and where we need to go thanks for sharing❤
Amen 🙏🏻
Great mum! Delighted to hear of what you're doing. There will be no revival without evangelism. Definitely need to stir up the gift by every means. Praise the Lord.
Amen, thanks Simon!
Great video 😊 - well done for sharing.
Cheers!
A lifetime's journey, where the destination is the person who's walking it with you 😊

I’m glad I’m not the only one! God told me to live in my car too! But I had peace in the moment! My family thought this could not be God‘s plan but there was a purpose in it.

(Just to clarify what I meant at 4:20.) It's all based off 1 John 4:7-8, which says "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." The context of the video is to encourage people who are struggling with the nasty and unkind things people have said to them. If someone is saying horrible stuff, and 'rejecting you' in that context, and 'judging you' in the sense of being judgemental, they are so far from walking in love (Eph 5:2), kindness and gentleness (Gal 5:22-23), humility and bearing with others (Col 3:12-14) etc, that person is living in outright sin, and as per 1 John 4:7-8 their words and actions prove that they don't know God, or as I worded it, they're not living in relationship with God like they could be. (I said the person would be living outside of relationship with God, and then corrected myself as that couldn't be true for a Christian, so said if they're a Christian, they're not living in relationship with God like they could be - I worded it sloppily but quickly corrected myself.) Another scripture that's relevant to the context of the video is Eph 4:29 - "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear." So in context, I wasn't talking about being challenged when in error etc, and didn't mean to we shouldn't listen to those who are correcting us and keeping us accountable - 1 Cor 5:12 says we're called to challenge and correct and keep each other accountable, and I think it's super important for Christian maturity.
Hello the Surrendered Life. interesting video. Are you suggesting then that the effort is on the human, as opposed to God, to hear God’s voice? If we follow your assumption that God doesn’t shout, and he whispers, (although I personally disagree with the following verses: Jer. 25:30, Isa. 42:13, Psa: 47:5, 1 Thes. 4:16, Rev. 10:4, 12:10, 16:1, 16:17), then your second and forth points seem to imply that we must keep practicing and be still to hear the voice of God more. I think you re sayingthat the more mature and the more close someone is to God it means the much more they will hear him. Do you believe that God is trying to talk to people but because they are not quietening themselves, or have not practiced enough, they cannot hear him? It woudl be helpful to know this thank you.
Hey! Are you asking because you’re interested in growing in hearing God’s voice? So, the way I see it, is when I grow in knowledge and understanding through reading the Bible, studying it, discussing it etc, have I put human effort in? Well, yes. And, is it only by the grace of God through the work of God the Holy Spirit that I grow in said knowledge and understanding? Well, yes to that too. And when God answers a prayer, is it because I prayed the prayer or is it because God answered the prayer? Neither… It’s both; would God have answered if I didn’t ask? I guess if I didn’t, there’d nothing to answer. And I’d say it’s also both, rather than one or the other, with hearing God’s voice. Reading the Bible or listening to a sermon because I want to grow in knowledge and understanding isn’t legalism, it’s good stewardship, and to grow much outside of that is unlikely. Likewise when I want to grow in hearing God’s voice, I set time aside to listen. I read each of those scriptures; thanks for sharing. I didn’t explicitly say hearing God’s voice is about for the purpose of growing in intimacy, the personal, close relationship we can have with God. When people talk about hearing God’s voice, the context is God speaking for relationship sake. God definitely shouts and roars in the context of showing judgement, war cries, to show His might etc, as per the above scriptures. As to the last question, I wasn’t trying to say that - sorry if it was unclear. I don’t think God is unsuccessfully trying to talk to us as though He’s talking to a brick wall, but I do believe He wants to speak to us - He wants an active relationship with us, which includes communication (eg through Scripture, or this). And it’s not that we’re unable hear God until we’re practiced enough, I don’t believe that’s true for a second! But we won’t hear God much if we don’t listen. Does that make sense/does that help you to grow in hearing God’s voice?
@@jameshorne Dear Mr Surrendered Life, thank you for your reply. I am always interested in growing my relationshiop with god. When I study the scriptures I see that when I read the bible I am listening to god’s voice, as you say. Also, I see its written in the bilble everytime god speaks it is a clear voice not confusing or a whisper. Apart from study I have not known there is a different way to grow in hearing gods voice taught so I am looking to learn your idea. These exmaples are interesting to me but at the edn you say “But we won’t hear God much if we don’t listen.” So although you tell me god is not unsuccessful you are putting blame on humans for not listening? I think this is answering my question to you dear brother. Unless again I mistake you then I apologise so much I think you are saying if people do not listen they will not hear. This means it is a joint decision to hear the voice of god. Could you have a biblical example of this for me? that would be so kind. my belief was that if god want to speak to anyone then nothing can stop this. even if the human does not want to hear they cannot help it. but I think you are saying that if someone does not want to listen maybe they will not hear ‘everything’ god want thme to hear. if this is what you are saying then this is a new teaching for me, and I am interested to hear more ideas about it before I make a too qucik judgemnt
@@hanuun1n328 Thanks so much for your reply, I really appreciate your humility in wanting to dialogue. I hope you don't mind me referring to other blog posts and articles in this response, but I think others have already worded it very well! It's also worth mentioning that in this video, I wasn't planning on proving that God wants to speak to us in this way etc, it was more for those who had already heard of it and wanted some helpful tips. So, I'm not aware of a scripture that says God doesn't whisper, but 1 Kings 19:12 says He did to Elijah. Also, from the way I see it, I don't think whispering is necessarily unclear. Here's a blog post that explains the heart behind saying God sometimes speaks in a whisper: thinke.org/blog/2011/8/21/why-does-god-speak-in-a-whisper.html Here's a great article from Crosswalk about how to hear God's voice: www.crosswalk.com/faith/spiritual-life/how-to-hear-from-god-regularly.html And saying we won't hear God much if we don't listen is like saying we won't learn much about God if we don't read the Bible. More of a stewardship thing, that's the way I currently see it, at least. But I'm always happy to shown otherwise, as I really want to grow as a Christian. I definitely agree that if God wills to say something, He just will - so no need to worry about God not speaking in that context. Even Jonah's heart being wrong didn't stop him hearing God! (And he eventually repented and God's mercy was shown beautifully to Nineveh.) Here's a few biblical examples of humans having an element of choice in hearing God. Look at the context of them to see what the context is. Jer 33:3 - "Call to me and I will answer you..." Implies we call out to God and in response He answers. Psa 85:8 - "I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants - but let them not turn to folly." Could either mean I choose to listen to what God has to say, or that we listen to what God has already said (i.e. in His Word). Rev 3:20 - “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” Although people wrongly use this verse to talk about salvation, the context is Jesus knocking on the door of His Church. It implies that we need to choose to listen, in this context to His correction. Rev 3:22 - "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." Again, this in spoken to the Church, not unbelievers. From how I see it, it's quite clear that Christians don't always listen to God. It's an example of listening to God's correction, which isn't explicitly the context of this video, so maybe isn't the most helpful. That said, if it's of interest to you, the majority of what God says to me personally is Him correcting me and showing me how I can honour and glorify Him more (sanctification). And yes, the more we read Scripture the more we learn, and the more we listen the more we'll hear Him speak, so I guess you could say we might not hear 'everything' God wants to say? Let me assure you it's not a new teaching!! I agree with being wise around potential new teachings, though I can confirm this isn't, see the above article. Another biblical resource is the reputable Pete Greig's book How to Hear God. Anyway, this is super long so I'll stop there. Hope that's helpful, and again thank you for your response - it really honours me to know you care enough to reply.
Praise the Lord for all His benefits in your life. Which Bible College have you applied to for your study? It is always an adventure of faith. I see the hand of God on you. May Jesus be glorified in your obedience.
Amen! Missio Dei Leadership and Theological College, the AoG one in Manchester. Thanks, and absolutely!

Hello my friend, thank you for your video. It is true that we must seek our identity in god. Very good. However Iam confused a bit by your statement at around 4:20. Dear brother it is very strong to say that someone who rejects you is living outside of relationship in god. We must first check to see if we are in error. This is what every good teacher does, even in our relationship and understanding with jesus. it is humility. Even I was confused by your idea when you say it is bad to judge yet you judge their relatinosihp with god, this was most strange, that if they reject you they must be outside of relationship. Is there no way that they could reject you for your errors, must the blame lie with them? I appreciate your videos but I do recommend for you to spend time thinking about the many proverbs which encourage listening to other opinions. You are right they should not be an idol but only a fool will say that their ideas are 100% right. Sometimes it is the messages that are harsh nad do not agrree with us that make for the biggest growth in our lives. I pray this guides and teaches
Sorry for only just responding, I'd missed your comment! Let me clarify what I meant. It's all based off 1 John 4:7-8, which says "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." I had actually explained this when recording, but didn't think I worded it well enough to make it into the final cut. In hindsight I should have included it. So, the context of the video is to encourage people who are struggling with the nasty and unkind things people have said to them. If someone is saying horrible stuff, and 'rejecting me' in that context, and 'judging me' in the sense of being judgemental, they are so far from walking in love (Eph 5:2), kindness and gentleness (Gal 5:22-23), humility and bearing with others (Col 3:12-14 - I could go on with scriptures like these), the person is therefore living in outright sin, and as per 1 John 4:7-8 their words and actions prove that they don't know God, or as I worded it, they're not living in relationship with God like they could be. (I said the person would be living outside of relationship with God, and then corrected myself as that couldn't be true for a Christian, so said if they're a Christian, they're not living in relationship with God like they could be - I worded it sloppily but quickly corrected myself. My bad.) Another scripture that's relevant to the context of the video is Eph 4:29 - "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear." So in context, I wasn't talking about us being in error and others challenging us. I deffo didn't mean to not listen to those who are correcting us and keeping us accountable - I have people who speak challenging words into my life and I so appreciate it! 1 Cor 5:12 says we're called to challenge and correct and keep each other accountable, so I wholeheartedly agreed with you about this! Let me know if that clarifies.
Great to hear you’ve got a new home and decided to study at Bible college. Yes it’s coming to Him resting in the promise God is our provider, yet asking for His provision for our specific needs. Dear Mr Surrendered Life, thank you for your latest update it helps me pray for you. I was wondering if you could share more about how you are a blessing to other peoples. You share about how you think god is teaching you which is fine but I am sure that in your time you have met with many peoples and talk to them about the great news of Jesus. If you could share some of these stories I would love to hear them and i think others would love to too! Bless you my brother
