Hihi, another good one! More curious observations: 1. Sonya's sister is named Varna - a.k.a port in Bulgaria where count Dracula harboured while running from Van Helsing and friends in 19th century. 2. The evil queen is actually Valeria - Conan's lover from "Conan the Barbarian". Also she is imo much more beautiful than Sonya. For me it's like in Superman 2 where the evil woman (don't you play your games with me) is prettier than Lois Lane. 3. The evil king, killed by Sonya, is the German giant soldier, killed by the airplane propeller, in "Indiana Jones 1". He also plays the giant henchman in "Indiana Jones 2" and apparently has a role in "Indiana Jones 3". The first 2 observations date since I was a teen. The third one I just found out when I checked imdb, but it's still fun.
Thank you so much! The queen is very pretty, but I'm Irish, so I can't get away from Redheads lol. So she never stood a chance against Sonja in my head. That giant German is in SO many movies lol. I see him all over the movies I review

TBH the honest roleplay and overal fun of this movie surpass by far ALL of MCU, specially phase 4. It was one of the all time favorites of all my first DnD group when I was 11.
As a guilty pleasure of celebrating graduating nursing school and passing my boards (right around the time you posted this review oddly enough) I watched both Conan movies and Red Sonja al in a row and it was amazing to see how they got progressively worse as I watched them. The first Conan is a stand alone classic with a soundtrack by Basil Poledouris (sp? not Googling it) that is so andrenaline-pumping awesome I feel I can take on the world listening to it. The subsequent films to not feature this as a strong point, but do have their moments. The main theme for Red Sonja is still decent in it's own right though. Brigette Nielsen's wig is one of the worst parts of the movie, and it constantly looks like she has a mullet. Seeing Sandahl Bergman return is wonderful though, and in the opening scene I had the feeling of a dark age Mean Girls. Even though it was panned and even Arnold dislikes it, his role as Calidor, and his costuming, is still great to watch and it makes me want to wax nostalgic for his glory days. Ernie Reyes, Jr, is wonderful and the character actor who plays Falcon is both good in this role and his almost any other movie he's been in. As the unofficial third movie in the "Conan" lore movies, it will always have a place in my heart, but one that is hidden by better works on a shelf that never gets dusted. Also, I love the D&D references, and the best clips segment was one of your best.
In one way it is the unofficial third Conan, but it isn't the 'official' unofficial third Conan movie. Kull the Conqueror was originally Conan the Conqueror, the 3rd Conan movie which Arnold Schwarzenegger was set to return as Conan. Arnold didn't want to do it at the time so they changed it to Kull and hired Sorbo.
@@craigjomaia Yeah. I remember now that you mentioned it. Good thing he was far removed from that dumpster fire by the time it came out. Fun to imagine what it would have been like had he stuck with the series and put out at least one more high quality Conan.
@@michaelk8860 The sad thing is Sorbo's trainwreck also killed the chance of more Kull movies as well. And Kull was every bit as interesting, and perhaps even more savage, than Conan in Howard's novels.

I remember this when it came out I was just happy to have another Conan (but not Conan) movie to enjoy so it wasn't until I was older that I saw how cheesy and poorly acted it was Still a fun watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon
Greg Louganis’ perfect 10 dive (or belly flop?) at 10:43 gets me every time. Thanks for reviewing Red Sonja!! Ernie (aka Arnie) Reyes Jr was definitely the highlight of this movie for me. It’s one of those ho-hum films from the 80s but there’s enough bad stuff in it that it’s fun to riff.
Such a disappointment this film was. I really hope that a good Red Sonja movie is somewhere in the works or maybe just a good sword & sorcery film in general. BTW I really love "Conan the Barbarian", one of my 3 favorite films ever (with "Throne of Blood" and "2001: A Space Odyssey").

If Arnold thinks this is the worst movie, he either forgot Hercules in New York or he purposely insulted Red SonYa 😂
I just noticed something.
Fun fact: The "EYAK" said by the guy at 5:19 is used in a 1987 Amiga game, Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior
I started with Karate Corner, and subbed from there....but you have all my likes now! The review was amazing, but the D&D reference has earned you an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner!
Haha I'm so glad you like them all. DnD and me have a looooong history
@@RedEyeReviews Same! Original and Advanced D&D starting in '78! Still playing today!
Heck ya! Great content as always!
Thank you!
Epitome 🤣 I see what you did there, poor Shia 😂🤦🏾♀️ Thank you for the laugh! Carrying the stone was very similar to the movie " The Golden Child" placing a basket, carrying with oblong tools etc. Even the exit ☺️Hugs from Asia 🌺
Sidenote - The son by the families domestic helper I hope can take/understand a joke!
I'm so glad you got some laughs out of it :)
I remember the Golden Child but it's been years though. I should rewatch it
They should have made red Sonya's outfit more like the comic book
This channel gets better and better
Aww thank you
I never realised the educational value of this movie
This was marketed as 'Kalidor the gladiator' in Greece. Came in vhs only. The cover featured Arnold mostly. Back in 198x, when life was still good
Oh wow that's a cool trivia bit
I never knew this Arnold movie existed. But, yes those were definitely jeans 👖 in that scene lol 😂!! Looking forward to your next video!
Thank you so much!
I rented this movie on VHS in the eighties and really enjoyed it. This movie deserved at least 5 Oscars.
I always loved the opening music to this film. Proper epic stuff.
it sells the movie
TBH the honest roleplay and overal fun of this movie surpass by far ALL of MCU, specially phase 4.
It was one of the all time favorites of all my first DnD group when I was 11.
Evil henchman reminds me of the SS guy from Raiders, was it the same guy?
"It constantly looks like she has a mullet." It IS a mullet. It was the '80s, the absolute nadir of all of human history for hair fashion.
@12:46 they are actually climbing vertically. The reason their hair doesn't move, is because of the 80's hairdos that require 6 cans of hairspray.
Haha I could buy that
i would like to ask for "universal soldier" and my favorate movie from the 80 ies "they live".
Thank you for a great way to reexperience these movies, without totaly destroying the memories.
Absolutely! It is for sure on my list
this channel deserves about 2.2m more subs
That's a heck of a claim that Red Sonja was his worst film coming from a guy that was in Hercules in NY.
🤣🤣🤣So true!👍
I always kinda liked Red Sonja. I respect that you gave the movie it's fair shake, instead of outright dumping on it.
Could you do Beastmaster next?
It's another good movie with a swords and sorcery feel.
Oh I haven't seen Beastmaster in awhile
saw this when it came out. As a fan of the Conan, I loved every bit of this movie. what a funny video. thank you for the laughs.
Was the evil queen played by Valeria from Conan The Barbarian?
I actually really like this movie. When I was younger I watched it all the time on cable. I saw this before the Caldor..I mean Conan movies. The face she makes when she says "Where are you?" 😂
Fun Fact: Red Sonja ALSO had affair with Rocky Balboa!
And it was WONDERFUL
So I just found your channel within the past few weeks, but I'm so glad this video finally you acknowledge that you say "Xscape" 😂 it's been driving me mad
Hahahaha. It's hard man! I mess it up so much
Just found this channel. 've binged watch pretty much every video you've put out since last year in a weekend lol
Lol damn that is commitment! So glad you are enjoying the channel :D
I love this film! It used to come on fox all the time in the late 80s early 90s!
This movie was the best when I was a wee button but ure version is way better. I'm in Europe watching this at midnight. Fantastic!
aww thank you so much. so glad you enjoyed it
Just rewatched this movie and I'm amazed at the lack of music, soundtrack. Lol. So many action scenes with just footsteps and grunts
Love this channel!! Just finding it now. I loved this movie as a kid, but always realized how horrible it was. Ernie Reyes Jr's fight scene with "Ikol" and the way he kills him is so amazing though hahah.
"IKOL! GEDREN'S! BLACK! SPIDER!!!"
"With MY GOLD? HABLAK'S GOLD!??? Yaaaahhhh! Sup-Sup! hiyaaaaaah!"
I remember this when it came out
I was just happy to have another Conan (but not Conan) movie to enjoy so it wasn't until I was older that I saw how cheesy and poorly acted it was
Still a fun watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon
Red Sonja or Conan 3? You decide 😇
You can’t mess with Red Sonja, this was a classic!
This movie is fucking epic! Saw it the first time when I was 14 and was instantly hooked. Quality.
My first wife was the same way. I had to defeat her in battle.
This was one of your very first suggestions actually. So it's been awhile to get it on the channel. But I'm very glad we did! It is awesome.
@@RedEyeReviews Well worth the wait!
The servant to the prince is Paul Smith who played Hamidou the evil prison guard in Midnight Express.. Great character actor. 😊
Glad to see your channel grow man! Love watching any and all of your videos :)
Thank you so much!
Robert Rodriguez was gonna remake it with Rose McGowan but it never came to pass v
Awesome channel. Don't know where to send requests so I'll do it here. Three O'clock High and the Perfect Weapon.
Both, added to the list :)
I want Arnold in season three of The Witcher. He can literally just grunt the whole and fit right in. Also, so awesome to see the channel growth! Feel like I started watching you a month or two ago and your subs have almost doubled. Keep up the good work!
Whatever happened to Ernie Reyes Jr. I just think of surf ninjas lol "Move your arms, bend your knees" 😄
I use to love this movie growing up. It was good in the mid 80s but looks almost cartoonish compared to today's movies
Subbed, loved al of it
Funny. I was gonna suggest this when I said you should do a Ernie Reyes Jr playlist.
