I served 10 active years roughly give or take a few months on two different coasts on three different ships and absolutely do not regret a second of it despite the trouble i managed to get my dumbass into! I had a blast in the '80s all over the world! You can't put a price on that!!!!!! 😎👍

Running on a treadmill in the helo hanger as the shipped rocked was challenging since it was position facing the port side. Uphill, downhill, uphill every few second. The ones in the weight room faced forward, so just staying in the middle of the treadmill was a challenge. I miss being on a cruiser... had a blast!

Found that even a month long underway running on the treadmill daily drastically increased my overall mile time when we pulled back into port, that or it was the amount of ladder wells I ran up and down. The rocking of the ship made it exciting to workout on.

I've been mulling over the idea of being an officer in a military branch for a few years now, off and on. Someone who was in the Navy recommended it to me, though I didn't think life on a ship would be fun, nor am I a big fan of swimming... but lately I've come around and found this video, which seems to debunk my misperception of "getting no sunlight, trapped indoors on a ship". The Navy seems to have positions in civil engineering and certainly many with GIS and geographics... I can speak Spanish and Portuguese but I'm rusty. The US Navy really looks like an INCREDIBLE place to be, see the world, do something honorable and meaningful. I'm really struggling post-college in a career path; all jobs just sound annoying and sucky to me. If someone's going to boss me around, I want them to own it and have honor, like a superior officer would in the military. I want to be part of a workplace that is a lifestyle and sees the human dignity in those around them. I may just reach out to a Navy recruiter soon, I just don't want to do so and then shy away and have them give up on me. I just really want to be part of a culture that respects me, my skills, and my dignity.

Whether or not it's fun it's totally up to you, your attitude, your command, and your location. A command can suck and bring you down hard! You might think Florida is for you and then find out it's not! You might get stuck in Norfolk Virginia and end up loving it! But the common denominator and those scenarios is your attitude, what can you do to make it better? 😎👍

But if I could do it again at my age I’d do it in a heartbeat we would leave 28 individuals and come back to the squadron a family and where closer than close.
