“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”, it’s immediate, no soul sleep. It’s not Biblical!

I see that scripture the same way Paul says, “to be carnally minded is death, but to be Spiritually minded is life and peace.”
Go and see how many times Paul mentions sleep. He isn't sleeping away from the Lord but in Him.

That's not properly quoting the Bible. Paul says that he prefers to be absent from the body, and present with the Lord. He doesn't say that TO BE in one state (dead) means TO BE in the other state (present with the Lord).

He is clearly referring to being absent or vacant from the body, and present with the Lord...
      American Standard Version
we are of good courage, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.
      Berean Study Bible
We are confident, then, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
      Douay-Rheims Bible
But we are confident, and have a good will to be absent rather from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
      English Revised Version
we are of good courage, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.

@@OneInPeace It's not directly either or. We can be absent from the body and IN THE GRAVE awaiting the resurrection. At the second coming, we are THEN present with the Lord.
There's TIME between those two events.
I can say, I prefer to be out of my house and present with my friends. But they live 200 miles away. I am not INSTANTLY out of one state and into the other. Time and space in between.
We do not go directly to heaven when we die. Misinterpretation of this verse supports that erroneous concept.
      Blessings...

Ho. I think the spirit goes to paradise but the body goes to the grave. As resurrection, we get a glorified body from our Lord Jesus. I am a former sundaykeeper. Revelation 11:10 old king James Bible, Jeremiah 10:1-5 OKJB, Deuteronomy 12:30-32, Galatians 4:8-10, etc all speak against Christmas. If you continue to eat unclean beasts (swine[pig/pork], chicken and its eggs, turkey, duck, shrimps, tuna, catfish, swai, etc) and observe sunday, turkeyday, Christmas, January 1st, Valentine's, Lent, Easter, etc, you are on your way to hell. Isaiah 66:17-24. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. Jonah 2:8,9. So people that refuse to repent and observe witchcraft sorcery times will not get mercy nor salvation from the Lord Jesus Christ. I used to be a sunday-keeper pork-eater and if I can repent, so can any one.
The everlasting gospel in Revelation 14:6,7 is to fear God (keep the hundreds of commandments based on love and the perfect law of liberty) and worship him at the right holy convocation gatherings in the new moons, sabbaths and holy days. People did so much evil under every green tree but that is in many verses of the holy Bible. Ezekiel 8:16 OKJB condemns the sunrise service which later became Easter. The star and serpent-like pattern of decking the tree with gold and silver represents Lucifer/Satan. When you observe Christmas, you are celebrating the downfall of Adam and Eve after eating the forbidden fruit. Colossians 2:8,16,18 proves the Christians ate the clean beasts, did not get drunk, and respected each holy day, each new moon and each sabbath. When King Jesus the LORD of hosts has returned, people shall worship him at the feast of tabernacles or they will not get rain. Zechariah 14:16-21. I pray that the Holy Ghost will guide us into all truth. Let us kindly serve and worship the Almighty Everlasting Father Jesus in spirit and in truth. Have a good residue of the month.

Yes the Bible says we sleep after death but it's talking about the physical body not the spirit that is in you, the moment your spirit is separated from your physical body your spirit returns to God who created it to be judged.
Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment
The Bible also gives us the story of the rich man is Lazarus, that when the rich man died he was in a place of torment and could see Lazarus afar off on the other side of the gulf in the bosom of Abraham which is literally paradise the waiting place for the saints until the day of judgement day, the other side is sheol the abode of the dead, the waiting place for the wicked until judgment day.
    2nd Corinthians 5:8
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord
    Another verse for reference

Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over then, but they will be priests of God and if Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
Compare scripture with scripture and enjoy the harmony of the word of God.

What I don't understand is that even if the parable of Lazarus and the rich man does not teach about the afterlife, it does talk about a place that you go after you die so is it possible. The Bible means that your body sleeps but your soul is somewhere else and your spirit goes back to God?

Humans do not 'have' souls, they are souls. Our body, or our souls sleep, is how I interpret it. Hope this helps, have a great day

Doesn't help sadly, as when Jesus returns the people that are still alive will have a new body. So we are more than a soul. It's hard to understand God's creation...

      Hello,
So one thing that we should remember, is that it is a parable, and the main focus of the parable if you read it until the end, “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’” is that there are some people that just want proof after proof, and yet don't believe. The same example with Jesus curing people left and right, the blind, the death, the lame... some people just closes their eyes and block to hear what is in front of them.
Lastly, do you really believe the "send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue" a dip of water would cool the tongue of someone at a lake of fire? Not to mention that Revelation does not mention any contact between the saved and the lost... it would be heartbreaking!
God Bless you friend, take care

      @Scott Spears Hello Friend,
So I since you mentioned the story of Samuel, and Luke 23:43 to Samuel Morton, I figure that both is what mostly caught your attention.
First: If you read in 1st Samuel 28:6, it states " And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets." Notice how it said neither by prophets? How can the previous sentence affirm that God did not answer Paul by prophets, but suddenly, through a medium God would send a prophet? It would be a strong contradiction. Also, the bible is very clear on how God feels about us consulting mediums.. Leviticus 19:31 - ‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God." If God forbids us to see mediums, the reason is clear in Revelation 16:14 "For they are the spirit of devils, working miracles..." - It was NOT God's holy prophet that came forth at the spell of a sorcerer's incantation, Samuel was NOT present in that place of evil spirits, that supernatural appearance was produced solely by the power of Satan. He could easily take the form of Samuel as he also can take the form of an angel of light.
Second: Luke 23:43... Surely it seems when we read into the text that Jesus would've taken the thief to go to paradise on that same day, however, when we read John 20:17, Jesus states to Mary after his resurrection, which was 3 days later, 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ Therefore, Did Jesus go to paradise on Friday, or not? Obviously not friend.
The issue with Luke, is that in the original manuscripts, there were no commas/punctuation, which therefore would be very hard for the translators. Notice that if we put the comma before "today", and a comma after "Today" the sentence changes completely? I will show you.
Luke 23:43 43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” ….
      when it should be...
Luke:23:43 43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you today, you will be with Me in Paradise.” Which is Jesus assuring the thief, "Although you see me being betrayed by my friends, and I am being killed as though I were a criminal, even still I give you the assurance today, that you will be with me in paradise.
Just to help you even more in case you have doubts friend, you can read Acts 2:29, and 34. 29: “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
34: “For David did not ascend into the heavens,...…" If David who was after God's own heart was not in Heaven yet, we can conclude that he is asleep, awaiting his resurrection when the Lord comes in the second coming.
      Hope that helps friend,
God bless, and have a wonderful day

What about Revelation 7:9-17? What about the thief on the cross who went to Paridise that day in Luke 23:43?
    ‐Paridise is where?
    Word: paradeisoj
    Pronounce: par-ad'-i-sos
    Strongs Number: G3857
Orig: of Oriental origin (compare 6508); a park, i.e. (specially), an Eden (place of future happiness, "paradise"):--paradise. H6508
    Use: TDNT-5:765,777 Noun Masculine
    Heb Strong: H1588 H5731 H6508
    1) among the Persians a grand enclosure or preserve, hunting ground, park, shady and well watered, in which wild animals, were kept for the hunt; it was enclosed by walls and furnished with towers for the hunters
    2) a garden, pleasure ground
    2a) grove, park
    3) the part of Hades which was thought by the later Jews to be the abode of the souls of pious until the resurrection: but some understand this to be a heavenly paradise
    4) the upper regions of the heavens. According to the early church Fathers, the paradise in which our first parents dwelt before the fall still exists, neither on the earth or in the heavens, but above and beyond the world
    5) heaven
What about Luke 16:19-31(this was an actual event not a mere parable,it differs in that it names people) they were clearly conscience and communicating.
