Honestly: her mother reminds me of a "dance mom" or "stage mother." There are parents who try to live their lives vicariously through the accomplishments of their children. They can often be very strict and domineering in the lives of their kids, even when the kids reach adulthood.
JonBenét's mother Patsy is a well-known example, and with fathers: it often has to do with their sons excelling financially whether it be in sports, politics, business, or entertainment.
Joe Jackson, the "Patriarch" of the Jackson family also comes to mind. I think it's very likely that even Gypsy Rose Blanchard's mother (Munchausen by proxy syndrome) may have been much like these types of parents.

      @joannemcfadden6405 5 лет назад +12

Yes!! Exactly...she is 20 years old, not a child. Her baby girl was the one who needed a pediatrician.
The baby’s maternal grandmother did not grandstand, she is truly hurt. I can relate to her. I love my grandchildren so much, this would devastate me.
Skylar got away with murder, even if the baby was stillborn which I do not believe she was, she buried this precious baby for TWO MONTHS BEFORE SHE WAS FOUND OUT!! Come on people!! She only cared about getting her belly back, not that she buried her daughter in the dirt and left her, forgot about her and went on with her life like it never happened.
This world better wake up!! Jesus is watching.

@@joannemcfadden6405 the 'baby's maternal grandmother' is Skylar's mom. Tracy Johnson is the paternal grandmother--as she explained in her impact statement--she is Trey's mother. If cases are decided based on emotions only, that will be a sad day for all American citizens.
The State had the burden of proof and they were unable to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. It's a tragic case for many people, but the jury was able to properly do their job and detach from their own emotions in doing so. (I'm sure many of them have children--possibly even grandchildren).

and what do you know about her emotional state? She is the only one who can say what she is feeling and what she isn't feeling. People process trauma differently and one pitfall many people step into, as you have in my opinion, is to hold someone's reaction up to "how we expect them to behave". Human psychology is much more complicated than "she didn't cry so she isn't upset or feels remorse". Try to imagine going through this for over 2 years. It is possible to reach a point of numbness of feelings. A way for the brain to protect itself from ongoing emotional trauma. We would all do better if we stopped being so judgmental especially when it is about a case that we are not involved in. Now this being said, I do not know whether she is innocent or guilty but the jury has made its decision based on the evidence presented.

Did it ever cross your mind that she obviously didn't want this child, and does not look upon it as "her baby" as you and I would as grown adult women? What is wrong with you? That you judge a child so harshly? Maybe she didn't want the baby because sweet Trevor pressured her into having sex in the first place? Notice he's not on the cross for any of this, let alone having sex at such a young age outside marriage. But Lord forbid anybody mention that. Kelley Lynch we all know it takes a male and his sperm to create a baby inside a woman.
Hell, even Skylar was aware he did not use a condom. She admitted that HERSELF BTW.
She definitely did not say “he raped me without using a condom”.
So what exactly is your point, in case you didn’t catch that statement from Skylar?
They BOTH had sex, they BOTH knew one of the two times they had sex, a condom was not used. It was a mutual decision.
I’ll reiterate that again for you. They BOTH made a dumbass decision to not use a condom.
But at least he had support from his mother and he would have raised that baby girl with her help, if Skylar would have gave him the right to know he was a father like he deserved that is.
With that support he would have gone to his family for guidance, NOT advise Skylar to have the baby at home in secrecy with no medical team, pretend it was stillborn and then bury the baby in a 2 inch deep hole in the dirt.
Healthy minded people do not think the way Skylar did.
Healthy minded people most definitely don’t have remarks like yours after something like this has happened to A BABY.
Did you actually think before you posted this statement?
Or you could just be a troll with nothing else better to do with your life than to make ridiculous posts regarding serious conversations/topics in effort to get others upset.
We will call you Mandy Sparkledust (actual troll name from the movie) sense you want to portray female.
      👌
The judge was spot on with that particular statement and I hope Skylar sets it on repeat in her mind.
His statement (the Judge) and the fathers mom statement, I hope they both resonate in her brain until she can’t stand it anymore and finally tells the truth, because she HAS NOT.
Instead she lied to save her own skin as her baby’s skin was deteriorating in the dirt!
Was that clear enough for you Ms Lynch?!
Get that stupid ass small minded shit outta here 🙄
How does he (the Judge) know you ask??
      Let’s see....
Option 1. Having a baby in a hospital surrounded by 2019-2020 medical science, team and advanced life saving equipment.
Option 2. Having the baby at home alone when you have no idea what you’re doing, nor have you bothered educating yourself at all.

With criminology you get mitigating factors which include your health, age, dependents etc. So one's mental health does play a role in the whole sentencing process. I'm not saying she doesn't deserve any sentence, she does. But what I learnt in criminology lectures is that jail is about rehabilitating individuals to never behave the way they did when they committed the crime. Eating disorders are one of the most dangerous disorders and cause the most deaths compared to other mental illnesses. She deserve the sentence but her health is also important. Sorry it's so long 🙈

If there’s a judgment, yes you can proceed to garnish wages as a way to execute on a judgment. However, she has to have wages to garnish. This girl is now a felon. Good luck finding employment. Moreover, if her weight is down to 86 pounds, she will likely need to enter some sort of treatment program. She was grossly stunted and her sole goal was to remain thin, a star student and athlete and she was terrified of rejection from her parents, namely her mother. None of these things mean she shouldn’t be held accountable but they do help explain how it all went so terribly wrong. Her mother is a guilty woman and her father stayed away too much and allowed these things to continue. This is a broken family and like it or not, it’s done. It’s over and skylar is essentially free. The best we can hope for now is extensive counseling for all of them. But I doubt that’ll happen.

Society doesn't hound boys from the minute they are born and expect them to be skinny and pretty if they want to be accepted. While girls who sleep around are called sluts the boys who do the same are congratulated. FFS parents of boys - start teaching them that they don't need sex from a girl in order to be bothered with them and if that fails for heaven's sake give them condoms and make sure they use them.

It’s crazy how the basics of their cases are similar. There are probably a ton of other girls in high school who are way too concerned with themselves and their status to care about murdering their babies. We just don’t hear about them.

To the Judge & to all those posting judging negative comments:
The social, familial, & peer group pressure on young teen middle class girls regarding pre-marital sex, pregnancy resulting in bastardization & non-married/single motherhood has to be applied here. A young girl in the throes of this stress is severely occluded in what she is experiencing about all this disgracing & shaming environment versus long term more mature adult decisions. A series of tragic, panicked, short term decisions, led to this teenager blundering into a hidden pregnancy & tragic outcome for the baby, for her & for the families involved.
American middle class society is very puritanical & censures highly in just such matters & with social stigma, censure, & ostracism. This case is another example of The American Tragedy still in operation.
No doubt if the baby had been born in hospital she would have survived, instead of being birthed by a terrified traumatized teen all alone & by herself with no medical knowledge.
To the Judge who cannot be likened to “Soloman” whatsoever, and to all those posting such diatribes as I have just read on this channel, one needs to become more mature oneself, and to have greater compassion. This is just the type of censure this teen girl knew she was up against which led to the tragic outcome in the first place. This girl just did not at the time have the adult maturity skills required as she was really still a child herself. Judge not lest you be judged. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes, comes to mind.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment and having the courage to speak up against the seemingly present negative opinions about her in these comments. It seems most people just want to give in to their quickly made assumptions of guilt. It is sad that people put so much energy into blaming someone instead of realizing that there are always more dimensions to a case. She hid her pregnancy, yes, but did she do it because she is a plain evil person? Probably not. She, like you described, was under a very intense pressure while also dealing with an eating disorder that probably affected her down to her core. She made mistakes but who, especially as a teenager, did not make any mistakes? Noone, but people look at cases like this and hold up Mother Theresa as a virtue standard and anything that falls short of it, is immediately assumed guilty. It is very sad that people do not take another moment to think more carefully and be more critical. We would be in a much better world if we would all be more compassionate. Tragedy at it's finest.

So she gets away with Murder and then She and her family are 'rewarded' by the Judge and they get to keep the remains of this beautiful baby? Surely the only decent thing that should be done is to hand the remains to the Father's family. That would be the only decent thing to do. Richardson clearly didn't want 'it' (she constantly referred to the baby as 'it') and Richardson's Mother clearly didn't want 'it' either. Richardson's Father and their Son appear to be the only decent members of that family.

She didn’t kill her baby, her gynaecologist stated herself that when Skylar first spoke to her she described the baby as very pale, normal healthy babies are born purple and stillborns are often born pale. Also Skylar said the umbilical cord wasn’t attached either, this probably meant the baby wasn’t getting the nutrients and died during the pregnancy. Skylar also suffered from an eating disorder which meant she probably wasn’t eating enough, this means the baby wasn’t getting the necessary nutrients. Also she was held in an interrogation room and denied burning the baby 17 times, the police officers repeatedly questioned if she had burned the baby after she denied it. The consistent questioning made her confused and she herself wasn’t sure if she burned the baby. Then the doctor who examined the corpse said there was a mistake and there were no burn marks, the fact that the police officers made her admit to something that never happened made her whole statement false, because she may have only said it under the police officers influence. Her therapist said she was a person prone to not stand up for herself and listen to others. The grand jury considered all of the statements and rightfully only gave her 3 years probation for the burial of the baby, she was a young girl, she clearly saw the baby wasn’t alive and did what she thought was right. Maybe she was too afraid to tell her parents, but y’all shouldn’t be bias and research the whole case, then you’ll know what’s right and wrong

There should be a law implemented for women or girls that have babies and don’t report the death of the baby within a set amount of time after giving birth should do a maximum of at least 10 years in prison. Maybe that would prevent this from continuing to happen. A woman in my state had 3 dead baby’s boxed up in her attic and didn’t go to jail at all for any of the deaths because the prosecution couldn’t prove wether the babies were born alive or not.
