Nuff respect to M.C. Shan! The only emcee who wasn't afraid to take on the Bronx. Respect the legend! Jayquan this channel is one of the best on You Tube. Keep up the great work.#Salute
Dope Lesson as alwayd. There's something that must be said about the BDP beef with Shan. Shan was alone as far as the JUICE Crew not stepping in but folks forget NOEL ROCKWELL AND MC POET from Queensbridge. Poet dissed BDP hard during the beef with two records: "Beat You Down" and this other record called "Taking You Out.(under the name "Fedz " ) Look it up. Those joints hit hard. Mr. Magic used to play those records hard.
This is BY FAR the most entertaining and educational interview you have ever done....No disrespect to Melle.....I was in the south so MC Shan was noteworthy; at the same time we (Georgia) had MC Shy D with the same vocal range and New York style so he kinda blocked MC Shan from our view, so MY circle studied Rakim, Kane, G.Rap, KRS-ONE, Slick Rick and Chuck D. I hate how he went under my radar!! I would have loved Shan but by the time the Juice Crew hit my ears I was a Rakim/Kane disciple.....then I latched on to KRS-ONE and had to go back to hear the Shan beef which I felt like the Jamaican patois and Reggae cadence's from Kris were to NEW for him to lose that "battle". I missed the brilliance of the ICON MC Shan.
MC Shy D ..yea..I heard him after the album dropped ..gotta be tough ..! MC Shan & others kinda disappeared for us here in SC ..we didn't have hip-hop radio like stretch armstrong or Marley..NY tapes might make it down to my area then
Shan keeps it crunk 25/8. I ride with homeboy everyday & been rockin' with him since my days of blasting Down By Law, waiting for the school bus. Great interview man & Shan even said put a stamp on it! 👊🏽💯✌🏽
Nearly 40 years deep as a Shan fan and right now couldn't be prouder of the brother, I can't lie this us and them BS has got me hurting nowadays but dude dropped some heavy ointment on that right there, f*** it I shed a tear, I'm big and ugly enough to admit it, big love Jayquan
Another great interview JayQuan! That was a great compliment M.C. Shan gave you at 2:50 when he said that your documentary lesson based on his life was so accurate, it was almost as if you were there "with him" back in the day. It doesn't get better than that!

Dawg....This is better than anything on TV. I appreciate these interviews. Back in my young days I was obsessed with the Juice Crew, Marley, the Bridge wars. Of course information was limited back then and all I had to read was the record labels. Especially living 1,500 miles away in Dallas, TX. I was a young DJ and just like you reading all the producer credits and names on the labels and had the same questions, especially the ones about when they were on Pop Art. I didn't think I would ever have those questions answered. I can't get enough of these interviews and lessons. Keep doing your thing.

A great interview with 1 of the icons, pioneers & predecessors of the hip hop culture & genre. I had no idea how influential & brilliant M C Shan was & is in the music biz! Props to Shan & the hip hop historian JayQuan...
MC Shan was my favorite MC at one point. I Loved that first album. I remember him on WBLS explaining that he wore mismatch Puma sneakers so people wouldn’t mix him up with LL.
🤔I have to be honest. I was one of his fan. Never met him in person. I brought couple his albums back in the days. It was real nice. What stuck to me the most is defending ourselves. That's one of the most underestimated songs he put out there. I still listen to that today. When it come keeping it real MC Shan is the man. And He just tell it like it is. And Shan won this reality talk with the BIG W. Good job interview MC Shan Jayquan. And Im also in Virginia. BTW y'all better download this quick.

Excellent video, Jay. I always enjoy listening to Shan -- he sorta reminds me of Melle Mel, he never bites his tongue and he says what's on his mind. I think the people's perception of his bout with KRS has caused them to not truly appreciate his contribution to the art form. It's almost as if they've written him out of history. Your channel is much appreciated because you help keep their legacy alive and not forgotten.

You mentioned Finesse & Synquis "Bass Game"... The 12" remix sounds like a Marley Marl production. I don't care what the credits say... Back then in 1986,NOBODY had those drums but Marley Marl!
Shan gives the best interviews in Hip-Hop. His history is so damn rich - so I instantly watch his every video. Many stories and he's full of knowledge. Shan and Marley made me spend all my tax money on a drum machine, 4track recorder, and a Tech 1200 and get busy. Thanks, Shan for creating dreams and reality for generations of musical and literary creators. The Juice Crew was eons ahead of their time.
