Flares and explosions lit up northern Israel's sky late on Monday when rockets fired from Lebanon were intercepted over the town of Kiryat Shmona.
The Israeli army said air defence systems identified some 20 launches from Lebanon in two separate barrages on Kiryat Shmona and the area close to the border, and intercepted the rockets. The army said no casualties were reported from the night attack. Four Israeli soldiers, all women, were injured by falling shrapnel as Iron Dome intercepted most of the rockets.
This attack by Hezbollah comes after an Israeli strike in southern Gaza targeted the head of Hamas’s military wing and another top commander.
Dozens of northern Israeli towns and villages were evacuated, under fire from Lebanon's Hezbollah group in the onset of the Gaza war nine months ago.
Hezbollah says it will keep shelling as long as Israel's war on Palestinian Islamist group Hamas continues.
