I got Koko and Distant Drums this spring as well. They are just baby bands so I must wait awhile for blooms. Both are very popular in the US although Distant Drums is said to be healthier. I also got Twilight Zone and Princess Charlene as bands, but both are growing well even though they have only been in the ground for a week. You are right about David Austins. Coffee, violets, and silvers seem to be the new "it" colors in roses. You just can't keep recycling a pink fluffy rose. There is a website coled Grace roses you should check out as well as Kates Roses. They're in the US, but it would show you the amazing roses being released here. Some are quite amazing. Good luck on your little beauties.

Wow I have ( had) all 4 roses too, I wasn’t keen on twilight zone and gave that away. As for princess Charlene, she didn’t survive our wet and cold uk weather. Lately there’s been a lot of roses being introduce in uk and at last we can all start enjoying what you have.
I have always been a massive fan of Da , and I’m saving any little spaces that I have for really special varieties. Happy gardening 🧑‍🌾!!!

I have the distant drums rose being delivered tomorrow! I've wanted this rose for a long time and about passed out when I knew we can now get one here! I'm a little nervous now I've seen you have had to use sulphur already and hope this rose can do me well. I absolutely love the look of the duchess of Cornwall rose. I think that needs to go on my list. Koko loko has been on my list for a while , so when I have the space I may buy one. I bought a queen of sweeden david austin rose bare root and its not doing well at all. Neither is my lady of the lake, so I'm watching you like a hawk to see where you get your new roses from. It should be very interesting. I too am looking further afield now. Take care Ken and enjoy your roses. I have near 30 roses and only a few have started to open. I'm so impatient! Haha

Hi Davena, roses tends to blooms differently due to location even different parts of uk. Yours will come in time. I’m very happy with koko loko so far , she’s producing a lot of new growth. Yes I’ve been particularly impressed with dutchess of Cornwall. Distant drum may or may not have what I thought it was powder mildew. I’m not taking any risk that’s for sure. Infact not to make even more worried, jayjay’s ( not sure if you’ve heard of him) his distant drums has loss all it foliage due to disease. Really the fragrance on DD is enough to make up for everything ( probably better than all my DA’s. I just love DD so much . I just picked up sceptre yesterday, boy….. what a beautiful rose with the most gorgeous scent too( it was a replacement for Poseidon) . If you don’t have sceptre, you better get one!! I’m so excited this year as I have added so many new varieties of roses to look forward to. Only the best will ever make it to my garden. See you on my next garden tour and good luck with your distant drum.
I would really love your views on her fragrance.

Nooooo not queen of Sweden, although there’s nothing wrong with her I just don’t like her. She’s just too well behaved. A rose that has little fragrance. Her blooms are small sitting on massive stems and her blooms don’t last. I have queen of Sweden and have never mentioned her in any of my videos.

Hi Ken I had phone call from rose suppliers ( C ..J) regarding 'distant drums' rose but I decided not to purchase, after seeing your video clip of the DD rose with spray. On positive side princess Charlene de m has first bloom as expected, impressed. Looking forward to seeing your DD rose performance and many other new additions in your garden. 🌱

Hi Raj, me and my sister Lin has been fortunate with DD, the one Jay jay received has lost all its foliage and suffering from disease . Probably not a good rose to grow in uk 🇬🇧. The fragrance and colour is pretty spectacular and I won’t regret buying even though it’s prone to disease.

Koko loco is a gorgeous colour. Makes a change from all the usual colours that we have in our garden. I'm feeling old Ken as I remember the original version of The Locomotion sung by Little Eva! I remember my mum playing the song Distant Drums when we got our first record player in 1967. Jim Reeves was her favourite singer. I couldn't imagine getting home from work as late as you do. Is your work a long way away from where you live? When my brother was a junior doctor he worked horrendous hours especially if he was on call. I thought my job was bad enough 9.00 to 5.30 and in later years Continual Professional Development became mandatory and I didn't get home until 10p.m. but that wasn't every night. Back to Roses....Yours always look super healthy.

😂 Hello Wendy, I’m not familiar with any of those names. Kylie is around my age maybe little older. I use to watch her in neighbours before her fame. Yes I have a small catering business which trades quite late and I’m on many occasions I wish I can retire early. But then I wouldn’t enjoy being in the garden as much as I would have far too much time as there are little or no weed to kill. I don’t really have much choice other than keep working harder as all my roses need feeding. And Of course so does the family as first piority.

I remember those golden oldies Wendy! I find so many of the songs from the 60s just stick in my mind, but I only remember a small number of songs from later decades. Maybe I listened to the radio a lot in those days? And of course pop was also on very popular TV programmes - Juke Box Jury, Top of the Pops, etc.

Lovely Ken. Chippendale is a rose that is doing well for me this year although it’s been half eaten by a rabbit. So it’s effectively half a rose now. I’m pretty sure it would have been the first rose to flower in my garden had it not been eaten.
Your distant drums is doing well mine is completely defoiliated from disease.
    Shameless rendition!
cracked me up. The copyright infringement broke in the moment you started singing because it was that close to the original :) cheers Ken.

Hi Jay, yes those rabbits have really caused a lot of problems for you mate. The the downside of living in a place with open scenic views I suppose. I’m not all suprise you distant drums suffered, mine did initially with powder mildew. I had to spray straight away to stop it spreading ( so far it’s worked).
Lol….. I don’t know who cracked me up the most you or myself…. Sounds like the original…lol lol lol…normally I judge you be very honest but not this time jay!!!! It was more of an embarrassing audition, a wannabe. I think I’ll stick to growing roses for now.

I was a bit disappointed to see Penelope Lively, a pink rose, from DA last year, so I was even more disappointed to see another pink rose this year. It may or may not be a slight improvement on previous pink DA roses, but it's really just more of the same. Maybe time will prove me and you wrong, and I suppose DA can't come up with a stunner avery year, but a strong, deep coloured fragrant red, yellow or orange would be a very welcome change. I was hoping they had a replacement for the discontinued Lady Emma Hamilton lined up - after all, that was a beautiful rose and still in demand by customers, so that would seem to be the way to go - but no. As you point out, there are other rose growers out there! I was watching a video from the US where a red rose, Mr Lincoln, was getting lots of positive comments for its strong growth and scent - might be worth a look? I'm not that taken with either of the roses you show here, but I do tend to like the bright, some would say, garish or less sophisticated roses. I've got no class!

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  7 месяцев назад +1

Hi Nik normally normally would rush to get to the computer, but this time I literally forgot they were due to release today. Yes my Penelope is not so lively at all. Her growth hasn’t change since it was potted last year. Her stems are also thin and flimsy. I imagine many people hoped it would be something more of LEH Or similar to Munstead. Perhaps they left the best variety to last release.
Today I had to dig up what I thought was Poseidon but the blooms were red and my sis who bough the same time was able to take it back and replace sceptre isle. This obsession needs to stop at some point.
Ps. Having personal taste of colour or form of a roses doesn’t mean anyone is sophisticated than another. You are more wiser and intelligent than many people .
