    Rebecca, all your videos and all the written tutorials on your blog are amazing! I have always wanted to do this kind of crochet but never knew how, and never thought I could do it even if I did know, but you explain things so clearly that I am rethinking my position. Thank you so much for offering all these resources, and all for free! I just have one question: do you know of any resources about finishing off? I have no idea what to do with all those threads, especially without a big block of color in which to weave them! Help, please!

    • @MaidMirawyn
      @MaidMirawyn 6 лет назад

      Leah Vesonder I use an invisible join for the last stitch (Google it), then weave in each end individually. If the pattern allows, and the join will be somewhere that's not too visible, I may drop one color a few stitches early, where it's closer to stitches in that color. But usually I weave one or two colors through the body of the stitches from the previous round, so all the tails aren't in the same place.

    Hi there! I notice that you are yarning over when pulling up a loop but yarning under when pulling through your loops. Does this help to conceal the yarn that you are carrying?

    Thank you for your video. I was wondering Rebecca, can you use individual bobbins with tapestry crochet? Would it be easier? and cause less carrying of the yarn? I would love to know what you think on this. I am loving all of your videos.They are the best I have found so far. You explain everything perfectly!! Thanks in advance ♥♥ Kimi

    • @alltapestrycrochet3167
      @alltapestrycrochet3167  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Kimi! Bobbins would definitely make the job easier and may create more consistency in your stitches, since you can crochet longer without having to stop. However, if by "individual bobbins" you mean using the bobbins only on the rounds that have that color and then cutting the yarn off when you don't need it, that might not be ideal. Let me explain why. Let's say you're doing a pattern of colorful flower on top of a long stem. For the first however many rounds, you'd just be using two colors: green for the stem, and let's say white for the background. But then when you get to the colorful petals, you have to use 6 colors. There's going to be a noticeable difference from the rounds where you only used 2 colors and the rounds where you used 6 colors. The more colors you use, the taller the stitches are going to have to be to cover up the carried yarn. And of course, the stitches would be thicker, as well. With only two colors, the stitches would be shorter and less thick. So in general, there would be less consistency in the size of the stitches. Also, take this white and green cactus pillow for example www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tapestry-crochet-pillow-cactus If you look closely, you'll notice that in the rounds where they didn't need the green yarn for the pattern, they left the green yarn out completely. Those rounds where they left the green out is noticeably more white than in the round where they're carrying green behind the white. It's another way for inconsistency in the appearance to occur. And of course, if you wanted to cut off yarn when you're done using it for a while and then have to bring it back in again later when you're ready to use it, depending on how you do it, there may be a lot more weaving in of ends to do once you're done. But I suppose if you're making a really intricate graphghan or something like that, that requires many, many colors, using bobbins might be the more practical choice. That's my very long and very thorough answer for you :) I hope it makes sense.

      @KimiBlundell 8 лет назад

      Wow Rebecca!! Thank you for explaining this all to me. It all made perfect sense to me. You have thought of everything...Thank you so much. I now know not to waste my time on the bobbins. Sorry to address these questions here, but I was wondering, how do you guesstimate how much yarn you will need for a bag? How much yarn did this gorgeous bag take to create? Many thanks again for taking the time to respond to my questions. ♥♥ ~Kimi~

    • @alltapestrycrochet3167
      @alltapestrycrochet3167  8 лет назад

      Kimi Blundell , so sorry for the late response! I just now saw this comment. I don't know how I missed it. To be honest, I'm pretty bad at guesstimating. For this bag, the yarn you see there in the video is pretty much the perfect amount I needed. About 4 skeins (one of each color - and actually the white yarn came in a one-pound bundle, but I used a very small portion of it). It definitely depends though on how many colors you're using, and on how much you use each color. For example, in the bag above I used all four colors pretty evenly. But if I had used a pattern that was 75% white and 25% black, I would have to buy more white yarn and would probably be able to get away with less black. I would say, for a bag of this size you should be at least 4 skeins and then depending on the color, scheme, try to determine how many of each color you should buy. I have a bad history of running out of yarn, though, so I should probably say you should stay on the safe side and buy more than you think you need. And then if you have leftovers, you can easily make a colorful, eclectic bag with tapestry crochet techniques :)

I can't post a photo here but for example I'm workibg with yellow, orange & pink, the pattern makes a pink triangle & I'm using orange just before some part of the triangle & just where I'm changing colour from orange to pink, there's a loop of orange showing?? Sorry it sounds complicated but a photo would clarify this. Thank you 😊

    • @alltapestrycrochet3167
      @alltapestrycrochet3167  8 лет назад

      Hi Tina! I have crochet-along style videos for bases. One of this base, and one of another base.
      This base: ruclips.net/video/MzyFNsWr6Uc/видео.html
      Snowflake base: ruclips.net/video/4pkNfHeCTX0/видео.html
      Also, I'm currently in the process of making a video that goes that explains in depth the general pattern/process for making these tapestry crochet bases. It should be available within the next few days :)

      Hi thanks for answering. I noticed the Base video just after I sent the message. I have crocheted for over 60 years and was looking for something more challenging than doilies. I think this fits the bill. Looking forward to more of your videos.

      Tina Pout Wow, 60 years? That's impressive! I think you're going to love tapestry crochet. It's not too challenging, but it really is quite a bit different from regular crocheting. I just uploaded that video, by the way, on the actual process of how to make these bases. I hope you find it to be helpful. Best of luck to you, Tina!

    Hi Rebecca I was wondering is there a yarn that works better with this type of crochet

    • @alltapestrycrochet3167
      @alltapestrycrochet3167  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Whitney! Really, you can use any kind of yarn for tapestry crochet. The only thing I would shy away from is yarn that has too much stretch, or that is too loosely spun. I talk a little bit about how to choose a good yarn in the following video: ruclips.net/video/AK871UWvVhU/видео.html And, I also just did a review of a cotton yarn that might be helpful in understanding what factors of yarn are important to take into consideration when looking for a good tapestry crochet yarn: alltapestrycrochet.com/my-review-of-lion-brands-247-cotton-yarn/
